Re: Let's make an audio first person shooter in JavaScript together!
Re: Let's make an audio first person shooter in _javascript_ together! apparently nobody wants to deal with it. The problem, as Camlorn and a few others have said, is the gpl licensing. I won't pretend to know the full story, but my impression is that GPL prevents you from giving out the program with a closed source, which means if someone were to make this and base it off of Talon's code, they'd have to keep it open source. That's a potentially huge problem for multiplayer games. There's zero communities for it, besides this one. if you have a problem while working with bgt you don't know how to fix, you have to come here, post about it, and hope someone will help you. You've got a python problem? Far easier to fix. Re: Programming an incremental audio game
Re: Programming an incremental audio game Hi, really shouldn't be posting in here because my coding skills are about as good as a shakespeare rewriting monkey, but I know that many of the popular incrementals are written in java/_javascript_ (I can't tell those two apart), and they can handle huge numbers which bgt can't. But you'll need a language that can do that, because most idle games like cookieclicker or antimatter dimensions use such large numbers. With cookieclicker for example you can get into the vigintillion range for cookies, and it probably goes further. There is a max as to how much it can store, and it says this somewhere on the cc wiki but I can't remember off the top of my head. There are two types of incrementals that don't do this however. One type is the incremental rpg, where you have one or a party of characters which can level up, gain skills and powers, etc. Those typically don't have large numbers and there's some player thought required when upgrading or spending skill points, but chars can usually battle and advance on their own and there are soft reset mechanics. Good examples of rpg idlers are clickpocalypse and realm of decay. The other unique type is resource managers, where you have to balance multiple resources which acumulate automatically. Here, your numbers also don't have to be huge, unless you're working with exponential growth like space company does. Good examples of such games are civ clicker, net clicker, and similar games. Conclusion: It depends on the type of incremental you want to make. If it's similar to cc, use something like js. If it's one of the other two, anything else will do I s'pose. Re: An opurtunity for work, for only some small code!
Re: An opurtunity for work, for only some small code! Well, when I first saw your original topic, my hopes weren’t high, but any faith I had in you is now pretty much gone. I don’t even know where to start here. So, you want to make a game to prove that you can code, but you need someone to help you code it because you... can’t code? I ask you, how does this make even the slightest bit of sense? Also, please explain to me how one makes a game without objects in bgt. May as well not bother though, because what do you need to make bgt play sounds or use tts? That’s right, an object! It may not be an entirely self-coded object, but it’s still an object, and you would know how important dictionaries, objects and classes are if you’d bothered to try and understand the concepts. Yes, even I as a non-coder can tell you this. If you want anything more involved than a basic blackjack game, rephrase your ludicrous demands. Or even better, stop being lazy and learn to make it yourself. I’m not even going to begin to wonder why the coder must be cool with sexual references. Not that I mind too much, but seriously, such things show quite well where you stand maturity wise. I also fail to see how a game submission could contain lots of different programing concepts if the dev isn’t ment to use some very importsant tools like... a dictionary. Finally, get those phone numbers out. Re: Looking for motivated, hard working and ambitious Developers. hello, this sounds like a great idea in theory, the only problem I see here is that threads calling devs to action have already been created multiple times. The main problem here is that if you get devs together and make a game, without actually contributing more than an idea to the project, you will not seam like the original dev, they will, even if you did come up with the idea originally. Also, another problem with not making the game you want to make yourself is that you can get as speciffic to a dev as you want, the game will most likely turn out to look different from what you expected. Re: Talking about my upcomming game Tornado machine
Re: Talking about my upcomming game Tornado machine well on the radar I think it first should be togglable. There are people including me who don't really like to hear beep beep beepitty beep all the time so they don't use radars often. The radar also should only be an aproximate fireing guide, like in audio quake where when the radar started to beep you would know the enemy was in front somewhere but you had to figure out the line of fire yourself. You could also make the radar a direct crosshare thing, where it would tell you when you were at point blank range and could aniulate your enemy. A very cool thing I'd suggest for the radar is a buyable radar. This would need a perk system or add ons section of some sort to be unlocked. The way I would imagine is: You win money if you destroy others in death match, you also win if you destroy an enemy plain in team dm, and would win a lot of money if your team won the team dm. You would however start losing money in death match if you were killed more than three times in a row without hitting someone before that. basically for example you get killed the fourth time and lost $100, for the fith you would lose $200, then $300, and you would continue to lose until you actually hit or killed somebody. If you manage to hit someone, your losing streek is revoaked. If you kill someone when you've hit someone and you don't die before, you get all the money back you lost do to the killing streek plus an extra $500 or something like that. In team dm you could also lose money by attacking your team's plain, which would have a sound identifying them as your team. Or maybe you could make enemy plains be lower pitched in modes with teams. YOu would also lose money in team dm by making your team lose the match. At the start of a team dm, you both agree on a wajor and who ever team loses gets to pay. For example you've agreeed on a wajor of 500. You have a team of five people and you lose. Everyone payes $100 to the other team, and those $5 00 are split up evenly through the team members. error things
error things hello, today I was messing around with the example games shown in the bgt help system. However when I got to the point in a test thingy that I was working on where I had to define what the menu options did, I got compilation errors left and right. I tried all sorts of ways to fix them, looked through the part of the script that broak the game about 3 times looking for any errors with end statements and parenthesies and what not but couldn't find anything. I tried moving sections of code around but the errors didn't really change. I'll post both all of the code and the errors here. code.#include "dynamic_menu.bgt"sound music;sound error;sound[] tone(4);int menu_choice;void main(){tone[0].load("1.wav");tone[1].load("2.wav");tone[2].load("3.wav");tone[3].load("4.wav");error.load("error.wav");music.load("music.wav");music.volume=-10;tts_voice voice;show_game_window("swamp Memmory");voice.speak_wait("wellcome to swamp memmory, made from the test game example in the bgt help system.");music.play_looped();dynamic_menu menu;menu.add_item_tts("start getting bashed");menu.add_item_tts("practice being bashed");menu.add_item_tts("chicken out");menu.allow_escape=true;menu.wrap=true;menu.run("here to get hit all over the place? well, this is a very good place to start!", true);do{menu_choice=menu.run("here to get hit all over the place? well, this is a very good place to start!", true);if(menu_choice==1){music.stop();play_round();music.play_looped();}else if(menu_choice==2){music.stop();keyboard_practice();music.play_looped();}}while(menu_choice!=0 and menu_choice!=3 );voice.speak_wait("ur, where do you think you're going? the zombies haven't had their dayly brain needs met oh well if you really want to go then, good bye.");}errors.File: C:\Users\andawn\Documents\random bgt scripts for messing around\test project\Swamp simon.bgtOn line: 6 (1)Information: Compiling void main()File: C:\Users\andawn\Documents\random bgt scripts for messing around\test project\Swamp simon.bgtOn line: 32 (1)Line: play_round();Error: No matching signatures to 'play_round()'File: C:\Users\andawn\Documents\random bgt scripts for messing around\test project\Swamp simon.bgtOn line: 38 (1)Line: keyboard_practice();Error: No matching signatures to 'keyboard_practice()'from the errors here, my closest guess is that I haven't defined the functions "play_round" and "keyboard_practice" yet. But when defining them, I also w ouldn't know where to put the code for those functions. Sinse putting them at the bottum would make the script a lot messier and putting so much code into an if statement also doesn't seem logical.
