Re: JGT 2.0, now with 3 target languages and neural machine translation
Re: JGT 2.0, now with 3 target languages and neural machine translation Thanks all for the appreciation.@RTT entertainment, there is no specific list of games that are supported offline. The way it works is that every translation ever performed by the JGT service gets downloaded with the JGT addon in a local cache. So as long as you only encounter text that has previously been translated, you can play offline and the JGT addon will translate them locally. If you happen to hit some text that JGT has not translated, it will remind you to login in order to get it translated. So for example, if others who played before you encountered 98% of the text in a specific game, then you could encounter that same 98% of the text while offline and have it translated. But if you encounter any of the 2% of the text that has not been translated, then instead of a translation, JGT will remind you to login. There is no way for me to know exactly how much of each game has been translated, other than to say that games that have been around for a while have likely been played through by many people and had almost all of their text encountered. So those games can probably be played offline just fine, unless you hit the 1 or 2% of the game that nobody has hit before. And on the other side, any new Japanese games that come out after the latest JGT release will have no cached translations, so you will need to login to get any of their text translated. There is a lot of processing that happens to the Japanese text in order to minimize the exponential growth of translations needed when games start combining many bits of text together. For instance, when BK3 tells you that you placed X, Y, and Z into the warehouse, and X, Y, and Z could be replaced with any combination of 500 different item names, in any order, with any number of items in the list, the number of possible sentences is enormous. This is a major downside of JGT only getting access to the finalized spoken text, rather than being incorporated directly into the games own logic. In order to get the local cache working I had to duplicate the processing that was happening server side within the addon itself.I don't have much skill or experience in Python, so it took me a while to get that working.Even now, there is a little bit of the processing that is still not being done exactly the same, but hopefully most people won't hit those edge cases. If you want the best experience with JGT, you should still login when it is convenient, so any little snippet of text that can't be translated locally will still get translated on the server. You will still get all the performance benefits of the local cache. But for those who want to play when they have no internet connection, hopefully they will still have a really good, if imperfect, experience. Re: JGT 2.0, now with 3 target languages and neural machine translation
Re: JGT 2.0, now with 3 target languages and neural machine translation JGT now has 2 versions, one for NVDA 2019.2 and prior, and one for the upcoming NVDA 2019.3.I have also updated the cache files with everything currently in the database, making translations ultra fast, and letting you play most games without even logging in.Plus I fixed a few difficult to find bugs that were causing the addon to not find certain translations in the offline cache, so now offline play works much better. You can read the user manual here. You can download the latest version of the addon for NVDA 2019.2 and prior here. You can download the latest version of the addon for NVDA 2019.3 and later here. Thanks to Tyler Spivey for providing me with an updated version of the Pro Talker addon, which makes debugging JGT much nicer.I've added a download link to his updated version of pro talker in the JGT manual, for those who want to use it for things like the casino in Alternative Magic. Re: Planet Saga, public demo released.
Re: Planet Saga, public demo released. @TheBlindSaiyan, since August of 2018, JGT comes with an offline cache of translations.Since the Japanese to English cache is pretty saturated, this lets you play many games offline.A newly released game would have to be played online for a while, but once the cache for the new game becomes saturated I could release an updated version so offline play becomes reasonable for the new game as well.Of course we would all prefer human translated versions of these great Japanese games, and I will wait hopefully for those, but in the meantime JGT is a big step up from playing them in Japanese. Here is a link to the latest version of JGT for your convenience:https://BlindGamers.com/downloads/JGT.nvda-addon URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/417617/#p417617 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: JGT 2.0, now with 3 target languages and neural machine translation
Re: JGT 2.0, now with 3 target languages and neural machine translation @Riad, I am already using the same neural machine translation in A Hero's Call.It certainly isn't perfect, but Google thinks it is definitely an improvement over their older phrase based machine translation.I think it does a good job giving people the gist of what is being said. One of the more problematic places in A Hero's Call is the poetry / nursery rhyme stuff, but not much can be done about it.@dan_c, I've had trouble with that as well.I feel like the character encoding is getting lost either when I open the user manual in a text editor, or during the copy and paste into google translate. One fix I just found is to put the files on my web server, then tell Google to translate the URL instead. Here is the ShadowRine user manual:https://translate.google.com/translate? … mp;act=urlAnd here is the Alternative Magic user manual:https://translate.google.com/translate? … mp;act=urlI think I'll start putting all the user manuals on my server and providing these google translate links so people can easily translate them.Is there a specific user manual you wanted translated?@aaron, ah, thanks for the tip.I think I'll still try to provide links to translated versions of the user manuals, since they probably don't change much these days anyway. Re: JGT, the easy way to play Japanese games in English. I expect most people are aware that Yukio, (the author of BK3), has made hand written translations of important parts of the game. They are donationware with a $5 minimum.Hand written translations are much better and easier to read than google translations.I highly recommend donating to get access to these hand written translations, and using JGT at the same time to fill in the gaps for areas of the game that are not yet translated.Considering the game itself is free, this is a great way to support all of Yukio's efforts.I've updated the JGT user manual to make more people aware and encourage them to support Yukio and get better translations at the same time.Visit Yukio's site to get your copy of the hand written translations.Or see the related audiogames.net forum thread.@coltonhill01, sorry, I'm not getting that problem, so don't have any idea how to help it. Re: JGT, the easy way to play Japanese games in English. @FabiG94, I'm not sure what your first error is.I have an AppLocale shortcut that works with Tia Story 2.Perhaps executables with Japanese characters in their names are messing up the shortcuts. You could try renaming them all to just play.exe, which is a good idea anyway for use with Tyler Spivey's tools.Brave of Cloudia and Cave of Marvels output to the clipboard by default and rarely use standard GUI controls, so you should be fine just using the Japanese keyboard, and not using AppLocale. If you change Brave of Cloudia to output directly to NVDA it will need AppLocale, not sure why, but that is what I found while testing.HTH. Re: JGT, the easy way to play Japanese games in English. Hi Orin,I just downloaded and tried Locale Emulator on Alternative Magic and GroundWar1.It seems to work just as well as AppLocale.I'm not surprised that things don't translate correctly when you are not using it.I think most of the issues you mentioned were when you were not using it.You said that when you do use it you have to hold down the enter and escape keys.Do you really have to hold the enter key for multiple seconds to get it to move to the next dialog?I have to hold it for maybe a quarter of a second, but certainly not a full second or more. And that is an issue related to text game maker.I've heard the delay can be changed in gameÝ’è.ini, but haven't tried it myself yet.I did also notice that GroundWar1 puts its story dialog on the first line of the edit box, unlike Alternative Magic which puts the text on the second.Which means NVDA will attempt to read the Japanese text every time you press enter to hear new story. And then the English is announced afterward, which I think is one of the things you were describing. There's not much I can do for this. But you can press NVDA+C to interrupt the Japanese text and read the English text from the clipboard. So you'd press enter then NVDA + C as you go through story.Of course, when using Locale Emulator your English voice will just not read most of the Japanese text anyway, just numbers and the bits that were in English, followed by the translated text.I made a little demo so you can see how it works for me.Hope that helps. Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English. @harrylst, yep, I had the same thought.I think it makes the most sense for people who know both languages to do it.I do have a web interface for editing translation records.I'd need to improve it a bit to get it ready for human translators. So if I get any volunteers who know both English and Japanese and want to spend a lot of time translating, I'll work on that.@Brad, sorry, but I'm going to stick to Japanese to English translations for now.It also looks like it is an online game, which poses extra problems for getting a finite cache of translations. Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English. @Orin, I just tested with today's NVDA master snapshot and the addon seems to be working. If you've already tried removing the addon through the addon manager without success, you might also try removing it manually from the addons folder. For a portable copy of NVDA this is in the userConfig\addons folder. For an installed version it is in %AppData%\vda\addons folder.Just delete the Ian Reed's Japanese games translator folder. Then you might want to restart NVDA, then try installing a fresh copy of the addon. Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English.
Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English. That first screen does not display correct Japanese text unless you are using appLocale and possibly the Japanese keyboard.I translated the buttons with appLocale on, then hardcoded the gibberish that Windows displays when it is off to be the correct translations, at least for the buttons. That is why it works in the audio demo.I'm not sure why it doesn't work for some people, perhaps if they are using an Italian or Spanish version of Windows they get different gibberish than I do.That said, I did include instructions in the JGT user manual for setting ShadowRine to output to NVDA without being able to read the buttons in that first dialog. Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English.
Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English. @CAEJones, that is the hope. There will always be some cases that can result in more new text to translate. For instance when you put things in the warehouse in BK3, it combines many statements telling you what it is putting in the warehouse into a single string. With the number of items in the game, you can imagine how many possible combinations there are.But all the storyline and normal menu translations should eventually approach a complete database of translations.Fortunately google has very reasonable pricing.I don't have a good idea of how much text is actually in each game, so it will be interesting to see how many translation records we have when things slow down.@ambro86, which game are you playing, and have you set the game to output to NVDA?If the game is outputting to the clipboard, that would explain why it is not being automatically read and why you need the Japanese keyboard. The instructions I gave for ShadowRine explain how to get it to output to NVDA.A fresh install of BK3 is set to automatically detect NVDA so needs no changes. If you've changed either game to output to the clipboard then you'll have to fix that.@Riad, thanks very much.Yes, I started with ShadowRine and BK3 because they are the 2 I have played and so I can give step by step instructions for them. But everyone is welcome to use the addon for any of the BK games.I'm glad to hear the addon works for BK2.I'm surprised it worked on Nyanchin's website.I'll be adding support for other Japanese games as I get time, as long as they don't have problems that would introduce an infinite or exponential number of translations.[[wow]], thanks very much for the offer of a donation.I don't currently have any way to accept donations, but may be I'll look into that at some point. Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English.
Re: JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English. @Firefly, those are the correct lines, but off hand I am not sure why that is happening in the snapshot version.I upgraded to NVDA 2015.4, so at least I'm up to date now. Thanks for being willing to use the 2015 version for now.@CAE_Jones, yes I account for numbers and at least English names. Those all get replaced by number substitutions before I check for it in my database or send the text to google. Then those number substitutions get replaced with their original English characters or numbers before they are sent back to the player. So this means text like:Ian has 5 rice balls.Or:CaeJones has 10 rice balls.Where the obvious words are in Japanese, only get translated once. The number substitutions occasionally cause problems because google gets over zealous and turns the number 1 into the word January when there are numbers that look like a date. This has been a problem for the BK3 load game menu for instan ce.In those cases I have been fixing them manually.I had about 3000 translation records before sharing the addon publicly and this problem happened on very few records, so for now it is not a big deal.I'm sure there will be other improvements as time goes on, fortunately I should be able to make them server side so I don't have to rely on people upgrading. JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English.
JGT, the easy way to play ShadowRine and BK3 in English. I've just released my Japanese Games Translator addon for NVDA. JGT for short. The JGT addon lets you translate text while playing Japanese audio games. It focuses on 2 things:First, to give newcomers to Japanese games the simplest experience possible to get started playing and enjoying them. Meaning, it requires less software to install and things to configure than other solutions, and gives you step by step instructions to get started.Second, to provide a more automatic and seamless translation experience than is currently supported by other sets of tools. For instance, when auto translate last spoken is enabled you can arrow through menus and immediately hear the English version of each menu item, without pressing an extra hot key.At this point I support ShadowRine and Bokurano Daibouken 3. If you have other Japanese games you would like it to support, contact me at supp...@blindaudiogames.com with details a bout what the game is and how I can get started playing it.I started writing this addon because the better known instant translate addon stopped working due to changes Google made to stop unauthorized use of its translation service. Since then QTranslate has become an alternative solution. I believe this addon provides a better experience for the games it supports. That said, if you're happy with the current QTranslate, ClipCopy, ClipReader, ProTalker, Japanese keyboard, and appLocale setup; then this addon may not be for you as the list of games it supports is more limited. This addon contacts my own server which then uses the paid Google Translate service. I implement my own caching to limit the charges I receive. This caching also helps the translations to be very fast.If you'd like to hear the addon in action, listen to this demo that shows me using it in ShadowRine. You can read the full user guide and download the addon from here.
