For alerts that require you to choose an option and have no hotkey for any of their buttons, such as the question about if you want to remember a password in the button for access a menu to answer if you dont want to remember the password either never or for now (at least in the Argentinian Spanish version of FF), you must to press F6 to go to the Navigation Bar, and tab until you reach the desired button.

Re: How much does spelling matter

I fully agree with both KeyIsFull and Tward.Unfortunately I cannot take much care of spelling in English since it is not my native language, but in Spanish Im too perfectionist, even on informal channels like Facebook or text messaging, although using Unicode support for SMS is actually a bit more expensive.Spell correctly not only gives a positive image about us; it also make text to speech conversion more clear. As a person I like translating, I saw that poorly spelled source texts complicate localization a lot.On any website, not only Audiogames, it is not mandatory spelling correctly on forum posts, but in content suited for the general public, in which eventually will be casual visitors, taking care of writing on the content is essential. There are spellchecking functionality in almost any current device, but this doesnt mean those utilities replace user knowledge. For example, in Spanish I often see texts laking accents on verbs which may be with or without accents depending if you want perfect simple past tense or a formal imperative. If this happen one or two times then may be typing errors, but when this is around all a text, I have no doubt that the writer only used the Word spellchecker and selected the first suggestion for all the cases, perhaps also choosing the Change All button.Another frequent error in Spanish, only warned by the computer when the used program checks for grammatical errors, is ignore the opening of questions and exclaims with ¿ and ¡ respectively, which English TTS call inverted marks and, while they arent used in English, in Spanish are mandatory. For those asking about spellchecking on web browsers, in Firefox you must download dictionaries for the language(s) you want, unless Firefox English versions already come with those dicts. When you have installed one or more dictionaries, you can activate spellchecking temporarily by pressing Applications on an edit box and checking the Check spelling menu item, or permanently on the General tab of the advanced options (Tools menu). For non-English native speakers, I recommend to download the US English dictionary.Internet Explorer comes with spellchecking since version 9 and includes many languages built-in. To change the default language, select it on the Manage Add-ins dialog box, accessed from Tools menu or the Programs tab in the Internet Options dialog. Finally, as GorthalonTheDragon says, there are lots of sighted people with angry writing, and the big problem is that many people also misspell at work. I dont have a braille display, but when I read a word whose correct spelling I cant remember or figure based on the linguistic rules, I often stop to spell (read it letter by letter) it. Leaving braille in favor of digital information is as dangerous as leaving handwriting, so although I dont work in braille since I finished the high school on 2011, I sometimes read old papers or make some needed speaker notes with the Perkins typewriter.

Re: exporting whatssapp voice messages to pc?

I dont know if its possible in iOS, but in Symbian I go to the Sounds\WhatsApp of the memory where voice messages and other media are saved (it can be changed on Settings\General), and the messages are there in AMR format. From a PC, is as easy as selecting the files on Windows or File Explorer, copying those and pasting in other folder. The files names have PPT plus a number representing the date, but you can group items by date to speed the navigation to the messages on which you are interested.

Re: installing ubuntu without killing windows in the process?

Tward, Wubi creates a swap partition only if you choose to install Ubuntu on the same drive that is Windows installed, but I believe this is not the case if you select an empty partition. Moreover, installing with the CD outside Windows makes Grub to be the bootloader, which do not allow to manage operating system list settings with the Windows System Properties dialog.Last, but not least, using the Windows bootloader should avoid problems in Windows 8 when quick start is enabled, that is an hibrid between a shutdown and a hibernation, and with (U)EFI based machines with SecureBoot. Apart from this, since GNU/Linux are more respectful with other operating systems than Windows, settings for booting into Ubuntu will not be deleted if you upgrade Windows to another version or run any system repair tool that regenerates the boot sector.

Make sure you install Ubuntu by using Wubi instead of the native interface, since the live CD booted directly is useful when you want Ubuntu to be the only operating system. If you have already an Ubuntu ISO image, boot up into Windows and find the Wubi.exe file.

Re: installing ubuntu without killing windows in the process?

If you already have Windows installed and you dont want to lose it after installing Ubuntu, I suggest you to install Ubuntu using Wubi. Wubi is an official utility that installs Ubuntu in the partition you select and adds an Ubuntu option to the Windows Boot Manager, which means that Ubuntu will appear on the operating systems list that you can access in the Boot tab of msconfig, the Start and recobery on Advanced tab of System Properties or by using the command line utility BCDedit.Furthermore, it allows you to uninstall Ubuntu using Programs and Features, and eases access from Ubuntu to Windows partitions a lot, since there is no need of using the Terminal nor modifying configuration files to mount those partitions.Wubi is included on Ubuntu ISO images and is the file for auto-run on Windows when you insert the CD or mount the image, but you can also get Wubi separately and it will download the 32 or 64-bit ISO depending on yo
ur processor architecture or the arguments passed through the command line.I hope it helps.

Re: a question about blind friendly linux distributions

Tward, I absolutely agree with your above phrase: The problem is a new user doesnt know where to begin or what to do to get Linux to work the way he or she wants. that is where access really breaks down because there is no access for dummies type book or tutorial that lays it all out for a new user.Orca offers some learning messages and I think it should be more acurate, but Im aware that differences between desktops would make this a lot hard.Another thing Ive seen for many distributions is that instead of documenting Orcas behavior and how tos on a particular distros documentation, the user is sent to the generic Orca documentation. Although it is probably no problem for experienced users, I think that new users may want to know the way Orca behaves on most relevant parts of the main shell of the distro he or she chose. In other words, documentation of many distros seem to be d
isconnected from Orca, since the links about Universal Access (the case of Ubuntu, for example) simply send people to the generic help: that help is suited for getting information about specific questions of the screen reader such as setting, pronunciation dictionaries, braille display drivers and scripting, but it isnt the most useful for a person to know the way of applying the tricks described on introductory guides of his/her distro, explained assuming the user will not use any assistive technology.

Have someone idea of any other distro than Ubuntu with something like Wubi? It is a Windows installation file that allow to install Ubuntu in the desired partition and add an entry to the Windows bootloader, so you can select which operating system to startup with no need of modifying the MBR. Checking the current Windows settings, this installer automates regional and language settings and detects the user name to ease initial setup.

Re: Alternative To Dropbox

Have you tried Microsoft OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive)?Initially this service had only a web interface, but currently there are apps for Windows (it is completely integrated into Windows 8.1 and the app is available for Vista/7/8), Mac, Android, iOS and obviously Windows Phone. I use it to save university documents on local folders that are synchronized with the server automatically, and since I have the program on my desktop and my laptop, when I turn on any of these computers the added/changed/deleted files are automatically reflected locally also on that machine. This service also allows to share files generating public or private links (for editing or read-only), and I like it is able to send links both to e-mail addresses as well as Facebook friends (provided you have the Facebook account connected to the Microsoft account, of course).I also use OneDrive to upload things I create like translations or organ recordings, since it doesnt limit the downloads
in any way. In addition to the official applications, you can use SDExplorer to have access to OneDrive, independently of the synchronized folders on the computer (Windows 8 and latter dont differentiate between online and offline available files, so those systems only shows files that were downloaded to the computer), from Computer or My Computer, as if you were using the web interface with Internet Explorer. The Advanced edition of this program let also schedule big uploads to be done in the background (remember that his program is previous to any official app), retry unsuccessful uploads and shutdown/sleep/hibernate the computer (this last feature is not available even on Windows 8.1).Although I have 25 GB without paying because I used the service since 2007 and they allowed old users to keep the original 25 GB when they changed the policy at the time of releasing Windows 8 on 2012, currently the free storage for new
users is 7 GB.Other Microsoft alternative, which uses exclusively the local area network, is SyncToy. Although its only for Windows and is not available on other language than US English, it has a very friendly GUI and, if you need, has also a command line interface, useful for using with Task Scheduler.

When I tried Ubuntu in 2011, in addition to usual difficulties Linux have for Windows users and there were many inaccessible apps, Ubuntu was updated to use Uniti instead of Gnome and accessibility was a disaster.Internet browsing and emailing with Orca was not responsive, and many Orca important functions had no keystrokes assigned. Now, my question: Does anyone use some Linux distribution daily and not only for testing purposes? It includes home users that have no Windows at all, home users which have Windows only as a secondary OS and users which use Linux at work, for example on servers. If there are no such users, this debate will not have sense shortly

Tward experiences make me think that it requires a lot of effort, but if someone is committed to learn new principles and experiment with many settings (settings understood as specific distros, not only options), you could stop using Windows for most of the tasks. As Sebby says, GUI accessibility on GNU/Linux seems inadequate. As a newcomer when I tried Ubuntu, for example, I felt to be lost many times: sometimes I could arrive to certain important areas, sometimes Orca with Espeak simply stopped responding, and many times I opened help topics I couldnt read. I hope the situation was changed on these three years.
