Re: Big TalkBack changes
Re: Big TalkBack changes Alright, after playing much more with it, here are some of my thoughts, both positive and negative.First things first, as I already said, if you go to verbosity, it is possible to choose how capital letters will be spoken, or punctuation. I really don't know what is it with Google, but they always seem to have issues getting these basic screen reader features right. If you want to adjust punctuation, your options are on, meaning all punctuation, or off, meaning no punctuation. Nno some, most, all, you either have all or nothing, which is quite strange, but the same was the case in old voice assistant releases, so maybe this was a Samsung thing and something that will hopefully be addressed in the future. If you configure capital letters to play a sound, which is what I did, you get the sound when a new window opens up, which can be confusing since while navigating, you could think that a new popup opened up, so hopefully they get a different sound for this. The biggest part of this update is customisability of the gestures. First of all, Talkback now has a practice pad as well so you can try out all the gestures and practice, quite useful if you still plan to use angle gestures or your device simply doesn't support multy finger ones. Now, there are many more gestures to assign and choose. Finally, something I've wanted for years is there, it's possible to assign a gesture to turn only Talkback's speech off and on and it works perfectly fine, another Samsung inspired feature for sure since this was possible in Voice assistant. As was already the case in Talkback 9, swiping up and down now adjusts the selected setting, while swiping up and then quickly down in one motion or the other way round allows you to change the setting you are adjusting, or if you have multy touch support, 3 finger swipes to the right and left. You can fully customise what you want here, and things such as speech rate, spoken language, audio ducking, dark screen and navigation options are present, hopefully to be expanded in the near future. What is new in 9.1 here however is the united global and local context menus. You no longer get two different menus but one, called Talkback menu, which is always in a list and can't be changed to the circular view if you like me prefered this, but there is actually a good reason for that, the menu is now fully customisable and you can choose exactly what you want, from editing and navigation options, general things such as spelling and copying, to quick toggles for audio ducking, hiding the screen and other useful features.I haven't had much success with the new voice commands, but to be honest that really didn't interest me all that much either so haven't spend too much time with it.It's also seemingly possible to assign a gesture now to directly switch to the braille keyboard, hopefully we get new languages much faster, some kind of direct Liblui integration would be great, just like VO did in iOS 13 bringing a bunch of new languages. All in all, this is definitely a step in the right direction, hopefully we continue on the same track and address some shortcomings, making Android better than ever. Re: Big TalkBack changes
Re: Big TalkBack changes It is actually quite new, Talkback 9.1 was just released. It is true that multy finger gestures were available in 9.0 too, but you had to enable them in Talkback's developer settings. In 9.1, the settings screen of Talkback has a better organisation. In addition to all the big features, in verbosity settings it is now possible to choose how capitals will be announbced, as well as punctuation. What I really however cannot get is why since this update, multy finger gestures are now available only on Pixel and Samsung devices. There can't be a technical limitation since they worked perfectly fine in 9.0, so thanks Google. Everybody was slamming Apple for screen recognition which has an actual limitation, now this is a big thing, you are forced to use 2 manufacturers if you want multy touch support, such a basic feature. Hopefully this will be addressed, but since it worked before and now doesn't, I doubt it. Re: cant select espeak as windows default voice
Re: cant select espeak as windows default voice It's actually the opposite, for whatever reason. Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl. There, you will see it.However, in Windows 10, the voice will be reset to David every so often for some reason, and there's nothing you can do about it. That happens when you select a voice from the 32 bit control panel, and the only way to make it easier is to have a shortcut to the 32 bit sapi control panel so you can quickly change this back. Re: Would people be interested in a guide to flash custom roms on android?
Re: Would people be interested in a guide to flash custom roms on android? Hello, make your life easy and just use stock opengapps. They come with Talkback preinstalled, and are maintained by developers working on this so it's not going to break after an update and be unusable. Also, FYI, you don't reinstall your stock Samsung firmware by booting into recovery, but rather through something Samsung calls the download mode, while on other phones it's often refered to as bootloader. That is the same mode you'll be using to flash the custom recovery, necessary for the rom installation itself. In general, any decently supported device is very hard to brick nowadays up to the point where it will be completely unusable and can't be restored to it's factory software. As for the original topic, I highly recommend just updating a great, already existing guide about custom rom flashing. Many things are still accurate today, especially the general advice, but some things do need updating such as a newer zip for enabling Talkback, as well as someone who has experience with newer devices with a/b partitioning schemes. The guide can be found at https://www.inclusiveandroid.com/conten … erspectiveAlso, if you do want to install a rom that does not support the accessibility shortcut and want to enable Talkback, this zip file should be flashed after flashing your rom or gapps, and will flash as well as enable Talkback for you. I have tested it successfully from Android 8 to 11, so it should work in most cases. Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning? @camlorn you're sure the last time you checked Discord out wasn't last year? Because by now, you can pretty much use tab across the interface, and I never needed to use object navigation in a web app where browse mode exists and is perfectly usable. Besides, that's also not an argument against it, seeing that you need to use object nav across native Windows settings, so I don't call something inaccessible just because of that. The Telegram iOS app was far from ok though, but an update was incidentally released yesterday that improved accessibility apparently so I need to check that out before making any comments about issues there. Re: Voiceover question
Re: Voiceover question Yeah, sadly not. You could turn on always speak notifications, but that will just cause it to instead read the notification out loud, which is most of the time not what you want. I actually wouldn't mind it, but that will introduce another problem, and that is whenever Voiceover is reading something and a notification comes in, the reading will be interrupted to announce the notification. Re: Is it worth it to do a clean install of windows with a new laptop? That was not misgendering, stop playing that card for no reason. I wrote that without even realizing at first, and that was never the intention. If I knew you, you could say that, but I have absolutely no reason to do that. Now, for the real topic at hand, maybe I didn't do research, but I did use the option we are talking about. You have a choice of how much exactly you want to delete, and if you choose to delete everything, you are doing exactly the same thing you'd be doing when reinstalling Windows, the only downside being that you can't repartition your harddrive for obvious reasons. Re: Why Are You All Moving to Telegram and Signal From WhatsApp?
Re: Why Are You All Moving to Telegram and Signal From WhatsApp? Actually, if we talk about desktop chatting, Unigram is indeed probably the best option right now. Sadly, Telegram on iOS does not match that in any way.In the end, we can talk about which app is better all day, but when it comes to chatting apps, you have the least choice yourself. You will go with what your community is using, because 50 people won't adapt to one of you, especially with online learning / working. For example, lots of people over here used a messenger called Viber, which is reasonably accessible, but has a few major annoying issues. Re: Anyone here dealt with Del's Max Audio Pro? Maxx audio, as others have said is quite crap when it comes to accessibility. However, at least one thing does work, you can get rid of that popup yourself.Plug in whatever device, and wait for the popup to appear. Now, select the correct thing you want in the list, but don't press enter. Instead, using NVDA's object navigation, probably Jaws touch cursor too, getting out of that list and exploring further you'll see an element that says don't show this again, or something similar. Routing the mouse to it and performing a click should be enough to achieve what you want, though if you ever want the popup back I have no idea how you would do so accessibly, since when I wanted this I had to reinstall the driver. Re: nitpicky about how smoothly speech synths can speed up As I am not a native English speaker, I definitely can't go that insane on speech rates. However, I can talk about my own language. Here, ESpeak is the best option. It does indeed sound weird with rate boost, however the variant I use, which is Steph sounds the best to me. I have started using it regularly with rate 40. Going towards 50s too, but still can't go that fast when reading texts. The only disadvantage is that it's kind of quiet, but if you use headphones that's ok, or at least it is to me. For Eloquence, regular rate is 70 here, without rate boost of course and 80 if I need to do something that requires speed, like Uno on the Playroom for example. Re: I think i found some deppressing news for samsung users...
Re: I think i found some deppressing news for samsung users... Nobody can actually contribute to that code, and multiple people already tried. Ok, maybe we could argue Samsung as an OEM could have more influence, but who knows what Google's policies are. However, not a single PR on that repository was accepted. Considering it is always at least a version behind the latest code, that's kind of even impossible. Also, a lot of Samsung's modifications to Talkback or voice assistant were specific for their own version of Android, one UI as they call it now and can't easily be adapted to others, or rather probably Samsung wouldn't care enough to do that. Some examples include things like a toggle for caller ID announcement, which remained in Voice assistant, since one of the reasons Google removed it from TB was inconsistencies with how it works on different devices, while Samsung of course does not have that problem since they make the hardware and adapt the software, or their dark screen implementation which is different from the one in TB and again would not work without proprietary software modifications in Android.I am not sure how true this is in Android 11, perhaps Samsung got rid of some of these things, but they definitely had a reason to keep Voice assistant proprietary since multy finger gestures weren't even possible for accessibility services on Android at that time. Re: I think i found some deppressing news for samsung users... Hello, there is hardly any need to worry. As soon as Talkback's source code for the latest version is released by Google, Samsung will update their fork and then it will have the keyboard. Now the sources are at 8.1, while the version that introduced the keyboard is 8.2. It's always how it worked, even when Voice assistant was around. In fact, now that it's on the Samsung store, it's entirely possible it will be updated way faster, since Voice assistant could only be updated with an Android update, which is what I am hoping for. Re: the horible gboard update
Re: the horible gboard update Hello, yes, ideally the quickest way to get the back button on phones with a navigation bar is Talkback's gesture to swipe down and then left. What I like? A couple things. You can focus a letter, then double tap it quickly as many times as you would like to insert it, instead of finding it over and over. For letters this isn't as useful, but where this is the most useful is when you are deleting multiple letters at once. Also, when I moved to iOS as my primary device, I was really not a fan of having to double tap done / enter buttons but being allowed to lift my finger to insert anything else. However, now I actually understand why that's so. It happened to me multiple times that I was looking for something below the keyboard. I accidentally touch done, and even though I slide my finger away from the keyboard, the button still gets activated. This can happen with any letter of course, but with letters you simply backspace it, while you might not always be able to undo a submitted form. Of course, in an ideal world this would all be configurable, and being that this is Android, that might very well be the case in the future. Re: the horible gboard update
Re: the horible gboard update Hello, fortunately, hiding a keyboard on Android is way simpler and better than it is on iOS. Simply press the back key. Instead of going back a screen, if the keyboard is active it will hide it, and you should be able to move through the interface as usual. For your granularity problem, that's just an inconsistency they didn't think of. I have noticed this too and can't offer any help other than hiding the keyboard, moving the cursor, then double tapping the field again to type, which of course should not be the case. As the previous poster also said, you could switch the keyboard too. I actually like some of these changes, but they need polishing. Re: Dark screen no longer exist on Android 10 in galaxy A20?
Re: Dark screen no longer exist on Android 10 in galaxy A20? Yes. Whenever Samsung discontinues an Android feature, it's usually because Google added most parts of it natively. In Android 11, Talkback also has multy finger gestures, which include things like Voice assistant's quick menu called selector in Talkback, gestures to enter selection mode, copy, cut and paste text, as well as pause and play media. It's still missing a few things, Voice assistant had the option to turn only voice feedback off, but hopefully we'll see that in the future too. Re: Dark screen no longer exist on Android 10 in galaxy A20?
Re: Dark screen no longer exist on Android 10 in galaxy A20? Hello, even though below Android 11, this is really confusing, you can configure any gestures on the screen to use for the selector. Just choose two gestures you want, and set them to options select previous setting or select next setting. However, for dimming screen you actually do not need the selector at all, just toggle it from Talkback's global context menu accessed by swiping down and then right. Re: Dark screen no longer exist on Android 10 in galaxy A20?
Re: Dark screen no longer exist on Android 10 in galaxy A20? Well, in Talkback 9 on Android 11, the dim screen option has been renamed to hide screen. I have no idea if this changes anything in terms of the way it works, perhaps with this name it now does hide the entire screen, but I have no sight at all so can't comment on that. Re: Let's all write to the developers about the Accessibility of the offic
Re: Let's all write to the developers about the Accessibility of the offic Yes, you are. You are missing the entire first post, which mentions the official client multiple times, not the web client. The client in particular can be found in the Windows 10 store. However, even the web version is far from perfect, so other than logging in, I am not sure what else you did since you missed quite a bit on there as well. Telegram is ideal on Android. On iOS it's usable, and on Windows a pain without Unigram. Hopefully it will be better one day. For some reason, they started great, then dropped the ball especially on iOS.I would like to say again that before you mention platforms X and Y, you stop being selfish. If you can switch, great, but most of the time and this is especially true for chatting platforms, it's not really your choice what you will use, you just go towards what most people in your country use. Here for example, a popular messaging platform is Viber. The accessibility of it sucks in many ways, but I can't force the entire country to switch to something else, I can however try to fight for better accessibility. This topic is to be quite honest very strange, because I really don't see how Facebook's privacy issues, speed of WhatsApp VS Telegram, signal and it's privacy focused options or the way Discord works are relevant to improving accessibility of a chat client and trying to work together to achieve so. For Discord users, for example, if you complain about how the iOS app works and how strange it is, would it be right for me to say oh just use something else? And maybe you are right, maybe something else is better, but I would rather have the choice, than a forced choice due to inaccessibility. Re: Let's all write to the developers about the Accessibility of the offic Wow guys, I mean, it's totally awesome and amazing that you offer the different platforms we could switch to, but sometimes this isn't an option, especially during this time. What happens if a school chooses Telegram as the prefered platform to have a group chat on? It's very important to fight for accessibility of anything. Re: Making a bootable windows USB with exfat
Re: Making a bootable windows USB with exfat Hello,in diskpart, you can specify the filesystem. When writing "create partition primary", just add "fs=ntfs" URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/591463/#p591463 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: Making a bootable windows USB with exfat
Re: Making a bootable windows USB with exfat Yes, Windows media creation tool works on Windows 7.However, you can use diskpart to do this as well.Typically, it goes something like this:You insert your USB, open a command prompt and type Diskpart. Now, you need to figure out what the disk number of your USB is, typically 1 unless you have multyple hard drives in that PC. To do that, type "list disk" and that will give you each disk number along with the size.Assuming your USB is disk 1, then you write "select disk 1". Then, "clean" to format the USB drive and delete all partitions. Now, type "create partition primary". This primary switch is what places the important boot sectors on the drive. Then, you can just write "select partition 0" to select the partition you created. "active" will make it active. The last thing you will do is of course extract the ISO file to the drive itself, and this will allow you to boot. I have used this multiple times and it worked fine, typically extracting it with something like WinRar. Re: broken NVDA translate add-on? There are several, though none quite as fast. You could always use Instant translate. Even though this one also uses Google, the NVDA translate addon stopped working for me as well but Instant translate continues to work just fine. However, at present it does not have a function to translate spoken text automatically, you can translate either the selection or the clipboard.
