Re: Reaper question
Re: Reaper question Reaper itself is just a DAW with a few great plugins. Unfortunately, it does not have vocal isolation nor extraction. You can achieve this via several ways, please keep in mind that none of these will yield perfect results:1. Hardware units. These will provide decent results, they are used in studios extensively when needed. The downside is that they cost thousands of dollars.2. Software. The most common way of extracting vocals is via removing the centre channel. This is, especially nowadays, far from perfect, as vocals use stereo channels and more often than not some sort of audio processing, e.g. reverb, delay, etc. These software are usually free or very inexpensive. Gold Wave has a center channel extraction function, and AnalogX developed a vocal remover back in the late 90s afaik which was free.Another software alternative that is probably your best bet right now is Spleeter, which uses NeuralNet-based data sets. This requires a lot of ram, roughly 6 gb for 2 minutes, but the results are quite good.Be aware of the legal implications if you'd like to share or distribute the extracted vocals, while doing this for your personal enjoyment is fine, in most countries, sharing or distributing them is not. Just a word of warning.Good luck! Re: Browser-Based RPG Needs Sound Track
Re: Browser-Based RPG Needs Sound Track If you do not wish to compose anything, a 2 minute long track usually starts at $250 and up on average. You might get a cheaper price from indie composers, but it is not unheard of of having more pricy cues. Hans Zimmer, for example, goes for about $15000 or so. That's just the composing part, not orchestrating in his case. So there is really no limit. If you'd like to compose everything and pass it on for remastering the midi files, you will most likely get a much cheaper price, but there's still going to be mixing, mastering, plus rendering your tracks with sampled instruments, so it's also a lot of work, but it's marginally better. My suggestion at this point is to grab a cheap midi keyboard, get a decent-sounding free instrument package and compose the tracks yourself, especially since you said you'd like to take part in how the music sounds. When that's done, you can look for someone who's willing to render, mix and master and possibly take suggestions as well.I have experience with this, as I have been composing for TV, radio and games, if you are interested, please contact me either via a PM here, or by other means through my site (see the signature). Unfortunately, the contact form does not seem to work at the moment, but everything else is okay. Re: web tt account creator
Re: web tt account creator Ethin wrote:It technically is a security hole. Its not if your using the client, but as soon as you start attempting to "integrate" applications with the protocol it becomes a major one because, if not externally tracked (which is a burden within itself), anyone can come along and reset anyone else to "default" settings. Its literally the "wrong" way of user account management. The reason why I mentioned that the protocol is meant to be used via the SDK or the admin script is because you would assume that TeamTalk's protocol is never accessed directly. Any implementation should use the SDK. That in itself never stopped people from accessing it directly though, so indeed, if a non-admin can access this command and update anyone, it is a very serious issue. As long as it is restricted to admins, or you can restrict the command yourself to admins only,, I don't believe that this is a serious issue.Ethin wrote:The TeamTalk 5.4 server binary requires a very specific version of OpenSSL (supposedly v. 1.1.0). Normally this wouldn't be a problem (after all, its not that hard to have both 1.1.1 and 1.1.0 on the same system simultaneously) but the requirement is far, far more specific than just "you have to have OpenSSL 1.1.0". I have an arch server with both OpenSSL 1.1.0 and OpenSSL 1.1.1 on it together, both at the latest rspective versions, and yet no matter what I do the dynamic linker fails to find the required library. Said library is also not included with the package. If I were to write an application that used (say) OpenSSL 1.1.0J, and version 1.1.0K came out, the usual thing that would happe would be the linker would be able to work with the latest version you have installed and would not be ridiculously strict on what version you need. This is in /Library/TeamTalkLib/build/openssl.cmake# ACE is built using the static OpenSSL library from# ${TTLIBS_ROOT}/openssl on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.## On Linux distributions we build ACE from shared library by# linking libssl-dev packageI guess things had changed since you last checked.Ethin wrote:In my opinion the TeamTalk SDK (on git hub) is just a "tease" of sorts. You may be able to "contribute", but you can't just build it from source and use it like that; you need to pay to use that built version. I've never seen any other project that does that, and its just a very underhanded way of doing things. The author is effectively saying, "Hey, look! The code is available! But wait... to actually use it, you have to pay me a grand for a license!"Edit: looking at the code on git hub, the TeamTalk library, itself, is available, so you effectively have the entire SDK available in source form as well, though with some huge limitations. Compiling that and any of the clients therein causes the client(s) you build to demand that you acquire a license. Funnily enough, the "license verification" code is nowhere that I could find, though I searched it a year or so ago and haven't since, so things may have changed. The function that I could find that looks promising just returns true and does nothing.According to his license here:A. Each License Key authorizes one (1) developer to install the TeamTalk 5 SDK on multiple computers for development and testing. Additional License Keys must be acquired for each additional software developer who installs the TeamTalk 5 SDK.This means that you essentially need a license key to use the source, including building it, though it is extremely vague.Ethin wrote:TT, on the other hand, gives you code (or segments of it) but requires you to pay to use it, which is precisely what my understanding of open-source attempts to prevent. As far as I understand his philosophy, open collaboration is his main goal. GPG Suite has recently switched to this model, you require a subscription for GPG Mail, for instance. Source use is locked to having a license.I don't necessarily agree with this. It is very unfortunate that there is no other solution that would be as easy to use. Re: web tt account creator
Re: web tt account creator Ethin wrote:... the NEWACCOUNT command in the TT protocol happily accepts an existing user and overrides that users configuration (even if they're an admin) and resets them to what your script specifies. Honestly its a huge security hole and I didn't know it existed until Ivan pointed it out to me a few months ago (or was it a year). As far as I know, this is not documented, i.e. it's not meant to be used by users/admins, hence the provided admin php script. The reason why you can overwrite an account is so you can update/edit. This is not a security hole. It's a very unfortunate way of implementing edits/updates though.Ethin wrote:... it also doesn't work with "encrypted" TT servers (because the dev doesn't know how to use proper dynamic linking). How so?Ethin wrote:I'd charge for it but TT is not worth that, considering how the author of the program likes to "make money" and all (not to mention violates the principals of open source). The TeamTalk SDK itself is under a proprietary license. There are other applications that work similarly, and accept contributions to parts that have been released in source form, such as TextEdit or TextMate under MacOS. In TT's case this is the client itself. But I am interested to know how, in your opinion, TeamTalk violates the principles of open source.Regarding charging for the scripts that were based on the existing PHP-based admin script that you mentioned under a proprietary license, you would not only end up violating a license (proprietary or not), but also end up doing what you are seemingly against, violating principles and making money for something that you have developed. Re: A new forum for you all to check out but this, is for a good reason. Regardless of the fact that your forum is for a DAW, samplers, mixing and mastering, or anything else related to the music industry, my question still stands. Quoting from my own post:Why would you choose to talk to a few people who decide to use this over thousands and thousands of musicians, professional and hobbyist alike?I assume that to you, it would not be more beneficial to join an existing community with a massive amount of user base. Why?You are reinventing the wheel, ignoring communities like KVR Audio, VI Control, all the various music-related subreddits, or even specific mailing lists that deal with music from a blind musician's perspective. What's your reason, other than to host a forum, which is mostly the reason for the other forum creators as well? Re: A new forum for you all to check out but this, is for a good reason. You took the time to actually set up a forum, pretty much a five minute job, even if you have to install an OS from scratch and configure PHP, a database, etc. This is even less if you use a package manager like Softaculous on an existing machine. That's a great start.Besides "Come check it out," what other reasons do you have to motivate people to use it? In other words, what benefits does this have over reddit's subs for each DAW like Reaper, ProTools, or samplers like Kontakt, Gigasampler, etc?Outside reddit, there exists at least one mailing list for each DAW and sampler I mentioned, there is SoundCloud and Metapop to socialize. Why would you choose to talk to a few people who decide to use this over thousands and thousands of musicians, professional and hobbyist alike?I am hoping that this spurs an intellectual discussion, rather than a flame war, because I am very curious, especially about #1's reply. To me, your post was not convincing at all, in fact, it seemed like a spontaneous idea which was not really serious in the sense that you wouldn't mind what happened either way.Even more worrying is the fact that you are running outdated software (Apache, your kernel), and there are cross-origin issues, to mention a few things. To me, this is not quite convincing from someone who runs a paid website hosting service.Since hosting forums seems like a trend these days, my expectations are quite low, those forums will likely disappear within a month or so, I am genuinely curious why you took the time to set up something like this and reinvent the wheel, so to speak.Rob URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/481041/#p481041 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Need help with Native Instruments Komplete Select and Ultimate.
Re: Need help with Native Instruments Komplete Select and Ultimate. Hi,You can move your samples from your documents folder to an SSD (recommended), or a different location, and then relocate via Native Access. After this, in preferences, there are three buttons to set your install locations, so that when you install something else, they will go to the right directory. This is recommended before you install anything, so you can avoid relocating, should something like this happen again.Regarding your Reaper issue, you can set your VST plugin paths, make sure that the directory where Native Access installs your plugins is added properly. If you refer to your Komplete hard drive, you cannot store samples on them, they are just there to install from, without needing an internet connection to download the installers first.Hth,Rob URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/479596/#p479596 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: In need of a lib or place of orchestral free music for free use @defender The way you phrased your dislike. You are doing this, you belong with those people, but you are at least better...I certainly understand your frustration, however, we do not know whether OP did not go through the resources because of sheer laziness, or because of something else. There are a number of reasons why and how a topic can be missed, even if it's sticky.A lot of times, this is because people are inclined to just post a new topic, rather than search. Even though I don't agree with this, and if indeed what you were suggesting was happening, pointing out the location, i.e. being constructive, would have been a lot more helpful, not only for OP, but also for other people in the future. Imagine everyone'd reply to trivial topics with a rant, people having less experience would not see it as encouragement to behave and communicate better.@1: Please go through the resources and check. It might take more time, but you will probably find things that you weren't necessarily looking for as well. Doing it yourself is always the best idea, unless you hire someone to compose for you, because at this point, only you know what you need. Looking for battle music is a bit too generic to me, there are a number of styles that I can imagine as battle music: hybrid trailer scores, medieval, religious (e.g. just an organ), 8-bit, etc. The same for music that indicates sneaking around, there are scores where just one note is used throughout via a violin section, there are ones with a piano and a vibraphone, sort of a James Bond-esque style, a harp and a flute with a bass line, etc. There might be something like these on the above-mentioned resources page as well.Hth,Rob URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/457634/#p457634 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: who's using what to store and generate passwords?
Re: who's using what to store and generate passwords? BitWarden can store passwords, addresses, credit cards, secure notes, and even files up to 200 MB, so you will never lose your scanned ID card, your license file, or whatever you wish to store again. All of this is encrypted locally and sent to the server you are syncing with. The task of a BW server is to sync across clients, store encrypted data, and to provide a web interface, if you do not have a client installed. The advantage is that your data is hosted wherever you wish, unless you are using their hosted version. You have various clients on various platforms, various browser extensions, Android and iOS clients, etc. BitWarden even integrates with iOS's password autofill, so you can disable keychain and use BW exclusively. On top of that, you have organizations, so you can have a shared vault for your family, friends, etc. You don't have to worry about generating passwords, since BW has a generator built in, though this is considered normal nowadays. If the server ever goes down, your data is still available on your devices, so you can export it, or switch to a different server. If you wish to switch to BW, it can import from a lot of password managers, including 1Password, Keepass, LastPass, Firefox, Gnome Keyring, etc.All this sounds like marketing hype, but to be honest, I don't think there is anything else out there that is on par with the features you get with BitWarden. We have recently reported and received some accessibility enhancements, as well. This hopefully gives you an idea of its capabilities. Kira Moji ga, a new anonymous service
Kira Moji ga, a new anonymous service Hello all,I present to you Kira Moji Ga, a new anonymous message board service in the spirit of Japanese anonymous text boards. Are we free? Yes, but you can optionally donate if you wish to help us with the server costs. We have a lot of other ideas, too, all anonymous, of course. So stay tuned! As a bonus, you can be the very first poster, if you hurry! Here are reasons why this is worth using:1. Registration is nonexistent.2.. You are completely anonymous. All your threads can have a different user name, if you wish. If you use a password, also known as a tripcode, others can identify your authenticity by an ID.3. Ip addresses are not logged.4. Because the board is completely anonymous, people are never judged by who they are. Content is much more important than rank, or fame.5. Post anything you wish, as long as it does not violate the rules. It might happen that you read a poem in one thread, and the next is a rant ab out loud neighbours at 2 AM!You can reach us at https://kiramoji.gaSpecial thanks to Ghorthalon, who embraced my idea, and acquired a server. Caffeine, which allowed me to set everything up. And special thanks to all of you, who I am sure will make this journey fun for all! Arigato gozaimasu!Cheers,Rob URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=321673#p321673 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: Website owners: accessibility and management
Re: Website owners: accessibility and management @ethin Php and _javascript_ are meant to do different things. Traditionally, one runs server-side, the other runs in a browser, client-side. With the advent of NodeJS, of course, _javascript_ can also run server-side now, so the lines are fairly blurred. See the famous note taking app which uses NodeJS: http://etherpad.org/ But even client-side, _javascript_ can do interesting things, such as power a wiki http://tiddlywiki.com/ or even a cms https://cdmedia.github.io/cms.js/_javascript_ client-side can do a lot of things which can dramatically reduce your server load, I assume you have no experience with a website that deals with hundreds of thousands of visitors daily. The point of my post is that these languages are not really comparable. You have the right to prefer one of them over the other, of course, but this is going to seriously limit you.Rob URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=303419#p303419 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: Website owners: accessibility and management
Re: Website owners: accessibility and management @Ethin Wordpress is used by millions of people all over the world. It is the number one platform for bloggers. There are hundreds of installations daily. Software with such a fame will be targeted by hackers. No software is perfect, so yes, there are security issues occasionally, which are patched when discovered. But this is certainly not grounds for dismissing Wp.You hear about a lot of planes crashing every year, but what nobody talks about is the fact that hundreds of planes land successfully, every day.@Nocturnus This depends on many things, mainly on what kind of site you would like to have. My two personal recommendations are Serendipity or Grav, see later.I am sorry if some of this is not new to you, I tried to be as detailed as possible, so you have many options to choose from. First, you need a place to host your site. This can be a free service or a paid one. Usually, the free ones are limited, i.e. they will not allow you to run resource -heavy software, host many databases, etc. If you'd like to go down the free path, http://freehostingnoads.net might be a good start. You can also buy a dedicated server, https://www.kimsufi.com/en/ has very nice ones starting at around $5 a month.Next, you will need a domain (an address that people can use to reach your website). Yet again, this can be free or paid.. If you'd like a free .tk, .cf or .ga domain, you can use http://www.freenom.com/en/index.html?lang=enIf you'd like to go with a paid one, http://namecheap.com is probably the most affordable. Don't forget to pay for whois protection, to hide your name/address, if you do not wish to disclose them. Also, check their blog, they have discounts almost every month for certain domains. Now that you have a ho st and a domain, you probably want to choose something to run. This can be a blog engine, a cms (content management system), etc.I personally like Serendipity. It is lightweight and fast. https://s9y.org/You can also use Wordpress, however for a simple site it is quite a pain to manage, often having complex things that you do not need.If you are okay with editing text files and uploading them, static site generators can also work. I am using one called Grav https://getgrav.org/. It has a ton of features and it is as simple or as complex as you want it to be.There are other similar static generators, such as Nikola https://getnikola.com, or Hugo https://gohugo.io/.Hope this helps and good luck!Rob URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=302904#p302904 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

We have a lot of those, including Miranda, MegaIRC, MIRC, Instantbird, as well as Adium or Textual for OsX or Irssi, Pidgin, Empathy on Linux. There are other accessible clients too.As long as you know the address to connect to, it should work fine.By default, nIRC, the client that Ghorthalon is using, allows you to specify an address and port to connect to. Re: nvda: its achievements over the years and its drawbacks
Re: nvda: its achievements over the years and its drawbacks Somehow I feel that you're following the "if not broken, don't fix it" analogy, while your arguments supporting Jaws do not really stand. See below.bryant wrote:I don't see myself switching to nvda, because jaws can do everything just as good, if not better, than nvda can, and I feel that nvda copied a lot of what was already in jaws.Have you used NVDA for a long period of time? I have, after a few years of Jaws use. NVDA feels like Jaws on steroids.Jaws does everything that NVDA does, but not more. The features that are being added to each release are ridiculous, while NVDA is adding innovative features, like audio ducking, which is actually useful. They do not try to reinvent a web browser (see research it), or explain a redesigned UI as a new, hyper super addition. They will never script around standard Windows use (see ribbons and virtual ribbons in JFW), which, if it breaks, causes all the people who rely on it to be incapable of using a regular interface.Yes, NVDA copied a few features, which is unavoidable when designing a new screen reader from scratch. Which, by the way, happened in about six years, as opposed to Jaws's 15, with 2 main developers only mind you! Jaws, on the other hand, copied a lot from every screen reader available. VoiceOver's and NVDA's object navigation (see touch screen interaction), the ability to redirect a synth to a specific audio device, the ability to restart upon a crash, OCR, muting speech on the fly... is it worth going on?bryant wrote:Why should I have to waist my time downloading addons when jaws already has those features included? This is dumb and a waist of my time, time that could be devoted to doing other things, rather than finding addons for nvda to work better with this and this program.I assume Jaws includes the ability to translate text via Google Translate, monitor your pc's resources (ram, cpu, hard disk space), and can also query the status of Dropbox. These are just things you would waste your time downloading, as you said. But let's suppose that you would: NVDA's shear speed would make up for it!bryant wrote:As to scripts, I hardly ever use them and haven't found a need for them.Actually you do use scripts. Switching between the Jaws and pc cursors executes a script, reading a window title executes a script, checking the time or date executes a script, even just a simple tab key executes a script.bryant wrote:I also don't like the way nvda proforms on the internet. It won't recognize some web elements like jaws will, such as tables and other eelements.NVDA has t he most advanced Firefox, IE and Chrome support. Tables, layered tables, table headers, summaries all work as expected. Are you sure it was NVDA you tried?bryant wrote:I also don't like the fact that nvda doesn't have a wraping to top or bottom feature like jaws does. This is really annoying when I missed a heading close to the top or bottom of the page and I would have to go clear back up or down to reach it.Hmm, is ctrl+home or end really uncomfortable to press? It is not by accident that NVDA has lots of followers, give it a try and you will be switching in no time!Rob URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=200301#p200301 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: martial arts discussion
Re: martial arts discussion @assault_freak: unfortunately, this is a common misconception.Yoga is a set of physical, mental and spiritual practices to enhance your body and spirit. It has postures, both sitting and standing ones, to achieve this, along with breathing exercises.Tai Qi is a soft martial art, mainly known for its continuous movement that has a somewhat similar effect on body and mind. These movements are internal, hence Tai Qi is called an internal martial art. Every move originates in the Tan Tien. This is quite challenging to explain so I am not even attempting to do it. But I recall master Chen Man Ching saying that the difference is that as a result of a push, a Yogi master would fly from his mat. Tai Qi would use the energy of the push and lead it away. Also, don't forget that the full name is Tai Qi Ch'uan, where Ch'uan is fist.Sadly, nowadays, the martial arts aspect is not taught, officially anyways. As for how we spar... Quite hard to say. Let' ;s just say that in the beginnings you will learn to fall and roll properly and you will have ample opportunity to practice it. Practicing a martial art does not mean that you will not have bruises and that you will be able to knock down everyone, of course. But it can help... a lot. It improves your balance, your strength, your breathing, your awareness, it fills you with energy. In practice: never be afraid of falling and always know what's around you, where you will fall, etc, where possible. The fear of falling is quite hard to overcome, especially if you are blind.@assault_freak I am aware of my opponent, how they breathe, where they move, how their clothes shift when moving their weight... At least, I am trying to be. It is hard if your opponent is a master, because if you make a mistake you are okay for the first couple times, but after that a demonstration of how your mistake can be used against you is in order. Believe me, there is no better motivation than that, lol.Rob URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=188651#p188651 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: martial arts discussion
Re: martial arts discussion Hi,I love martial arts. I'm a former Karate and Aikido student, but my true calling is Tai Qi.To answer some questions:Martial arts is always dangerous. If, however, you have a teacher (or master, which I have the privilege of), they can teach you in a way that will greatly minimize injury. Sparring is especially great for paying attention to your partner and their moves.Since I have private lessons, my partner is sighted. Yes, they can dodge your attacks, but so can you. You need to be aware of your surroundings and if an attack connects, use it to your advantage. I.e. the hand that was used to punch can tell you the way your opponent stands. This is very hard to explain and you will certainly learn it with practice. This is all gradual, so don't expect punches and kicks flying at you on your first day, even on your first couple months.Almost every martial art has mental training, which heightens your awareness, among other things. If you have a good tutor, every martial art is safe. There is a Chinese saying that emphasises that the master is not for the student, but vice versa. In our time, this is sadly less true as nowadays everyone can teach, for better or worse. You will know when the teacher is right for you.Good luck, and lots of patience!
