I think this must be another day ending in Y. Seriously, "We need a new forum"? Again? I know of at least one supposedly new forum that was needed that the admins have literally done not much with yet since it was installed. It was installed months ago. Some need, eh?

Re: is it about time we need a new forum?

@16: The currently active admins could fix that problem in about 5 minutes if they felt like it. That's one thing we don't need our MIA webmasters for. That being said, the entire reason for the restricted users topic in the first place is our MIA webmasters are MIA and so our antispam abilities suck out loud. Thing is, I've yet to see anyone who can actually do better.

Re: I probably shouldn't be posting this

I think I have... like... one post on this forum. One. And the reason behind it is simple. I've been reading for ages, and I've noticed two nearly constant things here.Thing the first: Oh my everloving god the complaining. If it's not someone complaining because they were banned from a game, it's someone complaining because $dev stole this, or didn't implement that, or changed that other thing. Or it's complaining about something relatively trivial that's gone on in this forum. Or it's complaining about all the people doing the complaining. Seriously, who's got time for that?Thing the second: Some regulation, please. I didn't see it very often, but even when there were active moderators around here I'd see warnings met by the people they were aimed at essentially laughing off said warnings. I've seen people who were still supposed to be banned back on the site like nothing happened because, I don't know
, the mods felt like being nice I guess. And yes, I've seen inappropriate topics end up blown away just to be replaced by 6 more just like it.Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact there's occasionally something semi-interesting posted here that I consider checking out, I probably wouldn't even have an account here. And if my third post on this forum ends up offending someone and someone decides to use me as a reason to get back on the mod bandwagon, I won't lose a whole lot of sleep for it. If it's interesting enough that it manages to survive the utter chaos of this forum, I'll probably hear of it elsewhere anyway.Long story short: This makes the 17th, as of the time I started writing, post on this thread talking about moderating. How about we stop talking about moderating and start actually moderating. If you're a mod, you're a mod for a reason. Be one, for cryin' in the sink, or bring in someone who will.

Well, it won't go down until about November 2020, at any rate. That's when the domain name's set to expire. And given the attention paid to this place by admins who's names don't start with L unless they're specifically called to, don't be surprised to learn that this post is the first they heard of it.

Re: Audiogames.net will be soon down

They're not really doing either, though. The active mods/admins appear to be handling both aspects. For the record, managing/maintaining includes things like actually updating the site, as well as running the forum. This software being 10 years old means the only thing keeping it actually active right now besides the domain expiring is its host not dropping support for the probably old as hell PHP version this thing needs. Now, if this is a server they own and maintain themselves, then... cool and stuff. Their server, their problem when someone hacks the shit out of it. If they don't own the server, though? Somebody's going to be in for a surprise.

Re: Audiogames.net will be soon down

@33: I'm not responsible for what you read. I am, however, responsible for what I type. And given that I don't live on this site, the last time I was here for any realistic length of time, you were a mod, and I don't believe Carter and Aaron were on staff at all (feel free to correct me, as I honestly only log in here when something catches my attention). If your transition to admin was announced, I missed it. I only know Liam is an admin because he was basically the guy when we were trying to fix the forum's email system among other issues. So, based on the data I had at the time, I typed exactly what I typed, which is precisely what I meant. I have no control over what if anything you infer from that. That having been said, the part of my post you agree with is precisely my point. This place still exists because we got lucky. And every time this place tanks, I offer to host it on a more current environment. I'm not aiming to start my own forum, but I've made offers to lend space to this one. The same people who can't be bothered to actually, you know, administrate the site also have decided they'd rather no one else did either.PS: This is also why I made my comment re: mod = admin, now. You're an admin, but basically in name only. We might as well just call you senior mod for all the difference it'd make. The actual admins aren't here.

Re: Your newest Admin

@21: You can. Or at least you could. The option has existed at least in the interface for ages. I disabled it myself, because if you want to email me, email me, but yeah last I looked it was there.@15: Forceably redirecting HTTP to HTTPS would also fix this problem. Depending on how much access Liam has to the server the forum sits on, it's a fairly trivial .htaccess level rewrite. Of course if he's got no server level access than it gets a wee bit more complicated. As a rule my server does this for every site I host, because there really is no good reason to not run HTTPS by default in 2019.

Re: Thoughts About Transfering AGNet to Another Web Master

@40: Root access isn't required to fix most of the forum's issues. The 400 error issue, for example, I outlined a fix for in another thread. However, basic level shell access would be required, and it sounds like you're lacking in that department. Which means even if the forum needed to move for uptime reasons, good luck. Also: Cloudflare does not a decentralised solution make. There's still a server in the backend that's hosting this thing. All cloudflare's doing is caching the content, so should uptime become an issue, at least a relatively recent version of the site will be online. ... But I suspect (well, more like I hope) you knew that already. To the webmasters, if any of them are still paying attention here: I'm not kidding. I've offered to help out with either hosting or administrating things from a backend perspective before, when uptime and stability actually *were* issues with this site. That offer has not gone away. You've got my contact info.To everyone else: Chill. The issues this place has are annoying, but there are more potentially site-breaking problems with the content than with the platform at present. The platform's issues, at least, can be fixed.

@26: I've offered to host site, forums and all, on a few different occasions if the people responsible for doing so were too busy to do so. They're too busy for that as well, it would seem. This place is lucky no one with either the means or the will to cause an actual problem cares about it. It's a security incident waiting to happen.
