Re: Bakatsuki, a place for accessible English Light Novels

Yeah the top post and title are pretty obtuse for those not in the know. And the word accessible doesn't actually mean anything here. All wikis are by default. In more detail, it's a wiki for translating light novels from Japanese to English by fans. It's completely voluntary and unofficial, so anything that does get officially translated must be taken down.Worth noting most series do get made into anime, so there's some cases where series that never get English localization for the anime themselves provide a workaround. It helps to watch a good few anime before you go in, some tropes and terms may be a little confusing for those not used to how translations sound. Most are pretty derivative, but there are some gems. Blazblue luckily has it's books directly adapted from the games, so you have a choice of watching the game cutscenes which as a whole do have rather great English casts, or the novels. Or, both if your curious about t
he differences. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Spice and Wolf are excellent. Unfortunately they had to be taken off, but translations are really easy to come by. For Haruhi both methods of official and unofficial translations are pretty readable, though I'd go with scans of the officials if your a newbie. Spice and Wolf's official translations by Yen Press are a bit dry and overly formal, but still far from bad. The fanlations are a bit casual in tone so there'll be some adjusting when you make the jump, but you don't miss anything and the humor is a bit more natural.Bacano is pretty cool as well, it's good pulpy fun with an easier than usual translation, since it takes place in America that uses translated American slang in Japanese, so it's much easier to back translate.Worth noting all three have very good English dubs for their anime adaptations, but sadly only cover about 4 books each. Still worth a watch however.

Hi.@assault_freakI don't think so, not if you don't know what light novels are, like me.Anyway the site is good, not really my kind of thing due to the confusing way of signing up and editing a page, but the reading is good.

Re: Bakatsuki, a place for accessible English Light Novels

Brad, the topic post is an explanation enough... it's a site for light novels, a form of Japanese writing that basically consists of short novels of no more than a couple hundred pages.

Hi.What is this site about?I had a quick look, it seems cool, I was reading a storie about the soul and how it tranceforms into a protector but this guy gets a shield instead. It's quite a nice site but a little tricky to navigate around.

Bakatsuki, a place for accessible English Light Novels

Hi all,You may be delighted to be informed of a site that a friend on Alter Aeon told me about called Bakatsuki. All novels up on the site are in English, and all are translated pretty well from the source material. Unfortunately some projects were discontinued, such as Sword art Online and Accel World so we'll have to find those somewhere else. However, they do have both the Blazblue Phase Zero and the other series about the Dark War up there. Since Phase Zero just happens to be a part of Blazblue: Chronophantasma, looking at the translation I can tell that the translaters were pretty spot on as some dialogue I remember from the game. The site is at:http://www.baka-tsuki.orgInterestingly enough, SAO was written by the same author as Accel World. Why, then, is Accel World not as popular. It deals with some of the same themes.Anyhow, enjoy the site. Lots of stuff to read.
