Re: Chromebook Chromebooks are very accessible using the ChromeVox screen reader. You can also run Android apps on some of them, so Team Talk and other apps should work okay.Speaking of Chromebooks, can someone recommend a decent model that's relatively cheap? I want to get the official Chrome OS experience on a new device and also get access to Android apps, all without breaking the bank. Is it possible to get something decent that meets these requirements for under $200 or $300? Re: My Chromebook setup, and a few questions In that case, I would recommend using the bare metal if you have a spare machine, or you could just run it live if you just have a flash drive bigger or equal to 4 gigs, that you don't ripping to shreds. Alternatively, you could use virtualbox if you're on linux. hth URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=221988#p221988 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: My Chromebook setup, and a few questions
Re: My Chromebook setup, and a few questions I have tested chromium os a while back. I am happy to report that the arnold the bat builds, along with the hexe builds that stopped around chromium os 23, do in deed include chromevox. The only issue that you might run into is that like on chrome os 43, you have to use headphones, increase the volume, turn on chromevox, decrease the volume, and then unplug the headphones to get speech through your internal speakers. Re: My Chromebook setup, and a few questions Hello there,In the current version of chromevox, you are able to touch the tap the pad, and Chromevox will speak. I have not tired the next version of Chromevox using the touch pad yet myself at the moment. There is that new Acer Chromebook Flip which came out, that is a cross between a normal Chromebook and a tablet. That'd be interesting to see how well Chromevox works on a touch screen. Now as for getting Chrome OS on hardware other than Googles, please have a look over here , for info on how to get "Chromium OS" working on a non-Google device.I can't say if Chromevox comes with t hose images, so do be prepared to have sighted assistance if required. Re: My Chromebook setup, and a few questions Hi there!I'm going to assume that you are on the "Stable" channel of Chrome OS at this time. I would wait till Chrome OS 44 comes out, which won't be too long... Its currently in the "beta" channel.Lets tackle the "Networking" thing first. Please see This Article from OMG Chrome, for more info on Network Shares. As for accessible apps, the Google Drive suite of apps are accessible of course, and so are the apps from One DriveFor a great Podcast Player, please have a look at the Podcast App within the Chrome Web Store. (Yes, that's what its actual name is.) As for a great offline HTML/Markdown Editor, please have a look at Stack EditAh, and I can't forget, a "wonderful!" media player called 3PM Player , which also works offline. Now, remember I said that Chrome OS 44 is in the "beta" channel? With Chrome OS 44, Chromevox jumps to the "next generation." Its name, is "Chromevox Next," and once it arrives to the stable channel, more to Chrome on the web be open to you, among it being "Android" apps, and better support for playing media streams, where that video/audio screen now reads. Same with the built-in Audio/Video programs within the Files app.Keep in mind, Android apps support with "Chromevox Next," just like with Chromevox Next in general, is still "in development,' To run Chromevox Next for a single page, add #chromev ox_next_test to a link in the address bar, like so:http://twit.am/listen#chromevox_next_testIf you'd like to try Chromevox Next everywhere throughout the operating system itself, visit the "Chromevox Options" screen, and enter the word "next."To go back to the current Chromevox way of speaking, toggle Chromevox off/on with CTRL-alt-Z like usual.Ah, almost forgot about Android Apps. Only Chromevox Next works with Android apps ported over to Chrome OS, although not all of them will work with it, thus "trial and error."Podcast Addict" is one of the apps which works with CVN, though do to it being a "ported" Android app, don't expect it to speak everything. I've talked to the creator of the Podcast Addict app, which I purchased aw hile back on Android, so Google still got work to do for Android app accesibility with Chrome OS app there. By the way, for a listing of all Android apps and games ported to Chrome OS, please This Section of the Chrome Web Store. If ya have anymore questions, or wish to clarify things, please comment!PS. My Chromebook setup, and a few questions
My Chromebook setup, and a few questions Hello peeps, or something to that effect. How's everyone? For all who care/give a flying muffin mixed with a bag of mutant corn chips, I recently acquired an Acer chromebook 11, board identifier gnawty, 2 gigs of ram, intel celleron/bay trail chipset, 16 gig SSD. Knowing me, the first thing I did with it was put it in developer mode and use crouton, the linux chroot installer, to put a copy of debian jessie, along with the gnome desktop and about 6 gigs of software, including vlc, icedove (debian's version of thunderbird), ocr feeder to scan documents, and wine, along with some audio games like the kitchens inc stuff, and just because it's awesome, gta2. With this ugly hack of a setup along with my android phone, the nexus 5 with tethering support, I have all I need to work regarding my summer internship, using google docs to write and share internal documentation for the organization, as well as game on my free time, using vlc to listen to the PG13 stream on my bre ak and on the paratransit. I do have a few questions though. How can you manage preferred networks and add apps to the shelf using chromevox? Also, do any of you have suggestions for apps that are both accessible with chromevox and on android, with or without ugly ass hacks to make them so? Thanks for your help in advance. Meet the updated Chromebook Pixel and the new Google Store From:http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2015/03/ … d-new.htmlTwo years ago, we introduced the first Chromebook Pixel. The idea was to bring together the best in hardware, software and design to inspire the next generation of Chromebooks. It's been exciting to see how the entire range of Chromebooks—from classroom-proof to high-end—has made a difference to people at school, at home, and at work. Today, we’re introducing an updated and more powerful Pixel to fuel the imaginations of another wave of Chromebook enthusiasts. Plus, we’ve created a new, online Google Store where you can get the Pixel and other devices made with Google, all in one place. One charger for all your stuffThese days, packing for a trip means remembering to bring all your different chargers—for your phone, laptop, tablet, watch, etc. We think you should be able to use just one charger for all your electronics. So for the new Pixel, we’ve joined forces with some of the biggest names in the industry to create a new standard for charging, called USB Type C. The Pixel is one of the first products to launch with this new standard, with more Chromebooks and Android devices following suit soon. Not only does Type-C enable multi-device charging, but it also allows high-speed data and display over the same connector and cable. It’s small enough to work with smartphones, powerful enough to charge computers, and conveniently symmetrical (no more guessing which side is up!). Speaking of symmetry, the new Pixel doesn’t just have one Type C port—it has two, one on each side, so you can plug in wherever is convenient. Thoughtful designLike the original Pixel, the new Chromebook has a high-resolution touchscreen, a sleek aluminum body, and smooth glass trackpad. We’ve also made a few other enhancements, including a new wide-angle camera lens. Of course, the Pixel is also great on the inside. It’s got a powerful Intel® Core™ i5 with 8GB RAM and a 32GB SSD. If that’s not enough for you, we’re making an LS (yup, that stands for "Ludicrous Speed") version that's even faster. And even with the new charger, you probably won’t be carrying it around much, since the new Pixel has 12 hours of battery life.* When you do need to top up, it’s fast—you’ll get up to two hours of battery life with just 15 minutes of charging.*Shop for the Pixel and more at the Google Store We’ve been selling our devices on Google Play for years, but as we’ve added more products to the family, we thought it was time to make it easier for you to learn more about them. So today we’re also launching the Google Store, the new home for the latest devices made with Google. At store.google.com, you can shop Nexus phones and tablets, Chromecast and Chromebooks, learn more about newer technology like Android Wear, Nexus Player and Nest, and stock up on accessories like cases, keyboards and chargers. You’ll see how the Google apps you already know—like Search, Maps and YouTube—work seamlessly with all these products. The Google Store is available on your phone, tablet, or laptop, and right now you’ll get free shipping on everything** (consider it our way of saying hello).Once you’ve found the right device at the Google Store, you can still head to Google Play to find apps, games, music, movies, TV shows and more. If you recently bought a device on Google Play, don’t worry—your order info will automatically be transferred to the Google Store. See our Help Center for more information. The Chromebook Pixel is available for purchase starting today in the U.S. on the new Google Store for $999 and $1299 for the LS version. Come check it out, and see what else is in store.Posted by Andrew Bowers, Director of Consumer Hardware*Battery life tested using Chromium standard PowerLoadTest at default brightness. The PowerLoadTest was created to emulate average user behavior and measure the resultant battery life. Charge time testing is measured by battery capacity increase with lid closed divided by average energy usage during PowerLoadtest.
