Re: Radio automation alternative to station playlist.

I totally agree. A cross platform and open source program would be awesome! I would love to have such a cool program on my Mac, especially my server! At the other hand, if people find SPL worth it, theyll also pay for the program.

Re: Radio automation alternative to station playlist.

Ive got a feature that you should add, make it cross platform. The Mac only has one app that can ever consider rivaling SPL and its RadioLogik, which has progressed far in terms of accessibility. Its still not all there yet, and Im not sure if it ever will. Im surprised it got as far as it did.

Radio automation alternative to station playlist.

Radio automation alternative to station playlist.

Hi Im thinking about doing my own project as a alternative to station playlist. Im not sure of the name of my soft where but I want it to be fully accessible to the blind. These are the features I want to have.Mp3, wave, and Ogg support.Input through microphone or any input.Instead of showing a playlist it shows the log. You have the option of full log witch shows the entire log plus past hours or the queue log witch only shows the current hour and upcoming hours. When voice tracking it allows you to select any hour but not any past days.Rotation manager and creator.Allows you to setup schedules for different rotations.Event scheduler allows you to schedule events to play at certain times and perform commands automatically.Audio library manager allows you to manage content and create categories for your rotations. Reports generator.Broadcast archive, allows you to archive broadcasts as set by the FCC.Ac
cessible cegway editor, allows a blind person to edit cegways for voice tracks or songs.Cross fading.affects support for audio.Hot key support.Client or server mode. Basicly what this means if you set it to client mode it is the normal software. If you set it to server mode it acts as a server the way you use is by using the same software on a different computer and connecting to the server. You would not need to carry audio with you on a laptop because it would all be on the server.Output to Ice cast or Shout cast or FM transmitter with line out from computer.Change the look of the interface, for different users who require different colors. Playlist protection rules.Completely open source.Runs on windows.Oh and ad management for adverts. If there are any more features you would want to see please put them in the comments. Im not even sure where to start or where to get the libs required for the streaming or au
dio or cross fading. I really need help because station playlist just costs to much. Oh and should this be a tab interface or different windows. I used to be a morning show host at my high schools radio station and the soft ware they used was not very accessible to me.

Re: Radio automation alternative to station playlist.

To be honest, I think this is quite a tall order to fill. The reason SPL has become so popular is that right out of the box it is an easy enough program to get started with, on top of carrying tons of useful features and supporting many popular formats, not just wav, mp3 and ogg. it means that the need to convert files for quick deployment on your shows or broadcasts is almost always unnecessary, because for the most part, SPL will recognize them and play them without any tinkering on your part. Then theres all of SPLs automation tools and such; from the ability to create playlists on the hour to simply adding a song from a pre-selected folder when your playlists just dont have enough youre pretty much covered and dont have to let the music stop for longer than necessary. Add to that quick punch in commands for mic or line-in for people who have mixers and audio interfaces, mute commands for the software itself when you d
ont wish to hear it echo back at you if that becomes a problem, the ability to quickly record for archiving purposes, the ability to crossfade from one song into the next either by overlapping the song or by making the other song fade out in the process, a timer that has been accessed by different screen readers with scripts to tell someone when a song is nearly over, and quick paste commands for adding songs on the fly, and you dont end up with anything less than a formidable bit of software that is deserving of respect, even if only grudgingly.I have heard others use foobar and winamp with great success, but I believe that to be more skill than the audio players themselves, because of the people who seriously havent eh slightest idea how a broadcast should sound or how to go about producing that end result assuming that they do have failed miserably. SPL removes a lot of the under the hood work that goes on in streaming, and the average j
oe only needs to read the documentation a bit to set up with ease, or have friends who have previously used the software to help him along the way a bit. I myself picked up on the finer aspects of station playlist studio within roughly 36 hours and was well on my way with as much complex and sophisticated broadcasting as I could offer, considering that I had some fairly cheap equipment to work with at the time. It was almost, too, easy.If youre going to produce a software to contend with SPLs features, you have your work cut out for you. Id certainly like to see it come to pass and look forward to testing it out. I wish you the best on this endeavor; Im fairly certain a lot of people will benefit with your success.

Re: Radio automation alternative to station playlist.

I really like SPL but the cost is just way to much for me. I really wish they would make it open source. I tested the demo and it worked for running my station. The only thing holding it back was the cost. At the time when I was at my schools radio station we were using Sam Broadcaster for all are automation and I was using audacity for producing of audio ads. I did all the audio ads for the station as well as producing the audio weather report every morning for my show. I was on from 8 to 10 in the morning Monday through Friday. I really like airtime it has the features but I just dont have a linux box sitting around to use it on. I have a rotation of top40 music that goes from 2014 20132014201220142000Jingle.SPL did this for me I just had to make different categories for each year. As for liquidsoap and airtime Im not sure if it is possible to do a rotation like this.
