Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy Since yesterday I have been using NVDA 2019.3 beta1. It completely fixed the issue I described, but because of the major overhawl with python3, there aren't that many addons that work with it at the moment, which is a shame, but hopefully once the real version comes out it'll get better. I also love the new screen curtain function. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to the release of 2019.3 and every other subsiquent version of NVDA going forward. I have given the link for the file and yes, I didn't enter any password when it was in debug mode. I too have lenovo laptop with windows 10. The thing is that I bought it in January and before that I had my HP laptop with windows 10 only. This problem didn't occur during that time. When I was using this laptop of mine, the problem did not begin when I bought it. It only started to happen a few months ago. One of my friends too has this problem. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy I have this same issue on a Lenovo Yoga with an Intel i7 8100U and 8 GB ram which has never ran anything other than factory windows ten. I also had this same issue on a work computer with I think 16 gigs of ram and also an i7 processor. (turns out JAWS isn't always better in professional settings, I use both and they both have a place IMHO), but yeah this has been a bug in NVDA for years. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy At post23, this is the factory Lenovo install of Windows 10, so I was not upgrading from an earlier version. It started happening right as soon as I installed NVDA in the first 30 minutes I had the computer. One more thing that may be of note, not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I installed NVDA through a portable install with all my configuration and addons kept, by selecting install nVDA in the tools menu. Do you think that has anything to do with it? Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy @23, if I'm interpreting the note from the MSDN correctly then hooks against 64-bit process from 32-bit processes could cause this kind of issue. I'm not a professional windows programmer though. Still doesn't excuse NVAccess from releasing a 64-bit build of NVDA -- all I've heard from them are excuses. They haven't even tried it. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy Well, first of all, x64 and x86 differences usually don't cause NVDA to trigger such effects. It should just work, just not the other way around, hooking x64 code into x86 programs won't work that well. Thats one of the reasons why NVDA is still x86, other than compatibility. Then, the problem doesn't seem to be originating from NVDA itself, but I experienced similar problems before after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It seems to be a problem originating from the upgrade process. The problem disappeared after reinstalling Windows 10 entirely new without Windows 7 involved in any way.Best Regards.Hijacker URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/482965/#p482965 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Cannot use them extensively yet as the remote addon is not ported and I use it often, but I certainly hope that is so. By the way, I call it speech delay simply because Mobile speak back in the Simmbian days actually had a setting called speech delay, which would be similar to this behaviour, except it was intended that way. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy @4, if your theory is correct, this is probably a very good explanation, and even more reason to make a 64-bit version of NVDA: "Because hooks run in the context of an application, they must match the "bitness" of the application. If a 32-bit application installs a global hook on 64-bit Windows, the 32-bit hook is injected into each 32-bit process (the usual security boundaries apply). In a 64-bit process, the threads are still marked as "hooked." However, because a 32-bit application must run the hook code, the system executes the hook in the hooking app's context; specifically, on the thread that called SetWindowsHookEx. This means that the hooking application must continue to pump messages or it might block the normal functioning of the 64-bit processes." Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy Hi, Thanks for your quick responses. the specs that I remember off the top of my head are a Core I5 8265U, 8gb of ram and a 256gb SSD. Thank god I don't have to deal with mechanical hard drives any more. This laptop is a fearly recent Lenovo Ideapad, i'm not sure of the model number, with a 14inch screen if that helps. As for performance, when I do manage to get into the task manager, I see that NVDA is not using that much out of the ordinary, so it's not anything abnormal in that regard. And for those who have the issue after something intensive, like 7zip archiving, it's unfortunately not just that. I could literally have started my computer a few minutes ago and already had to restart NVDA to get it to properly work again. My CPU could be at any level, even like 5% or something very low, it doesn't matter. And about the log. So all I do is change the loging info box to say debug, and when this occurs, does the log file get deleted after a restart? And where are they even stored in the first place? Maybe I should know this, it's just that I never had to send the log to anyone before. Edit, just realized that post 7 gave me the path to the log file and I didn't even notice. Thanks. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy You know nvda 1903/20.1 is still in alpha right? This stuff is probably logged in %temp%\nvda.logyou need to put a git issue or send it to the nvda list, I can make the nvda list aware of your issue but you need to post the entire log or a fragment under nvda initialised there should be warnings, info error messages, etc.In nvda general settings set your debug to the highest level and give a debug log of things to.send the entire log if you wish.when I use say 7zip, its about the only program that will take my entire cpu power especially for big files.what is your system spec? and who makes it to that will be asked to.Sometimes after navigating through a lot of items in a firefox webpage things can get lost.if it does, you can hit windows d, tab to the system tray, scrol to nvda, right click it, hit exit, then do a winkey r and type nvda and it should restart. Its not happened for ages to me now but then I only run a single window or 2 at once.If I run to many windows, ie more than 3 when say viewing explorer folders on drives that explorer instance will crash if I then close all windows type explorer then explorer pops up then I close it then it works again usually. So far its my ownly gripe. As for the windows start menu thats not that bad to use default. The only thing I do have apart from some tweaks is ribbon disabler and a few winaero tweaker tweaks but its about it.I have got used to the start menu, but the ribbon I hate, everything else is fine.Usually I don't run massive programs all the time, if I want a responsive system I tend to not share cpu power with big programs that may take away from whatI am doing. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy This happens to me most often when my system is responding slowly because I'm doing a lot of stuff with files over the network. For example, sometimes NotePad++ takes a second or two to respond after I alt-tab to it because the file it's loading is on a network drive. If I alt-tab to Notepad++ often enough, repeatedly triggering the one to two second hang, eventually I get the problem you're experiencing.Sometimes what you can do is press each of your modifier keys in turn to unstick them (alt, ctrl, windows, shift, and capslock,) but this doesn't always work. in my case reloading NVDA doesn't always solve the problem; I have to reboot my system (which gets really annoying because then I have to reopen all my windows!) Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy I don't suppose running NVDA as administrator would help then? I didn't know this was the problem URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/482840/#p482840 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy I don't think that is what is happening here. I rather believe NVDA's keyboard hook just dies. This should happen rarely, but it used to happen way more frequently for me as post 2 said on bad hardware. I can't say I've ever experienced it when opening apps though, that would be quite annoying indeed. But if admin rights are the issue, you can test that by using a portable copy of NVDA and seeing if the issue still occurs. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy The hardware has nothing to do with it. What seems to be happening is that NVDA is elevating itself to run in admin space for certain tasks then not de-escalating itself to run in normal user space after that is done.I have this too, but no where near as frequently as you. I'm not sure what makes this happen, like where the process goes awry. You may have to downgrade NVDA, but honestly, this has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, so whether that will have any effect is up in the air. Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy
Re: An inexplicable NVDA issue that is starting to drive me crazy If you don't want to downgrade your nvda, downgrade to windows 10 1803. If you don't want to downgrade your windows, upgrade your computer. Allthough if it's specs are not bad, then i guess the only option is to downgrade windows/nvda. I never had this issue on my intel core I5 7300HQ 6GBram, and i never had this issue on my 4gb intel pentium horrible school laptop. It's not that horrible, but in comparison with my laptop which i'm using now it's just aww. And i'm using windows10 1803 and actively resisting 1909, though my friend at 1909 with his laptop specs which are comparable with my school laptop didn't have this issue as well. Maybe it's just a problem of your hardware, but i suppose it's very unlikely.
