Re: Calliope version 3.0, more than just a media player I have a few suggestions and bug reports. First, the time edit field only lists time up to an hour, even if the file is longer. When I'm playing audio files, I should be able to move to another file in File Explorer and have it immediately start playing when I press enter. Currently, I have to close the program or wait until the current track is finished playing. Finally, please add an option to minimize the program to the system tray while allowing it to continue running. Perhaps this could be an additional feature for the fast startup feature. Basically, I don't want the window popping up every time I play a media file. On youtube I have to type the name of a video on that channel and then the channel name to find it. It doesn't always work and it's very annoying. So, yes, this feature would be great. I've personally mapped the applications key to my key just one right to the spacebar, and so can honestly say the whole shift f10 thing slipped my mind completely, which is completely a rubbish excuse. I think it would be nice to search for a specific channel and get a list of videos in that channel in the list view. Also, as crazy as it sounds, I would like to see the ability to download entire channels. This is one selling point of ponte's media downloader and the reason I use it over anything else that can download youtube videos. I'd like to make a few suggestions.As others have said, the final few list items in the navigation list seem to glitch and don't correctly bring you to the screens they're supposed to. I get stuck navigating between the YouTube, Audiobooks, and Settings pages. Secondly, there is no way to download videos anymore. Presssing enter streams the video. The ideal thing to do would be to bring back the menu that allows you to stream, start YouTube DL, or open in your browser.Finally, is it possible to do searches for channels and list videos chronologically on a specific channel? For instance, I'd love to type in something like thunderbirds101 and get a list with his videos sorted from latest at the top to oldest. With NVDA, for example, that would be focus an object, then press NVDA plus numpad divide to move the mouse to an option you want, and then numpad multiply to right click that option. Second is to use a program called Sharp keys which will allow you to map some other key that you don't use as the applications key. I don't have an applications to access the menu that makes it so that you can open the link in the Youtube DL screen. Shift+f10 doesn't work either, it just takes me to the system menu, the one with move, minimize, maximize, etc. I don't know what to do about this, I do love the youtube streaming feature, though. That's brilliant. But I can download anything because I can't access the menu since I don't have an applications key and shift+f10 doesn't work as an alternative. Using a Lenovo Thinkpad t-430 running Windows 10, if that helps. I pick this over fubar is because I think fubar is a little bit overwhelming. thumbs up btw.A few suggestion and bugs reports though:1. on the selection screen, when you move around with up and down arrow, you cannot up arrow back to audio book, yes this is easily could be bypass by using the alt+number shortcuts though but yeah.2. the audio book screen sometimes missing or become mislabled, for example now if I press alt+6 it will says setting but it is actually the audiobook screen.3. my NVDA is not reading anything when navigating through the audio book result. the cursor is moving though.4. is there a way to clean all the playing queues? deleting them one by one is quite a pain.5. could you add the feature to like, detecting sub folders inside a folder? so for example I have a folder called favorite song, inside of that folder there is a few sub folders like audio games favorite, video games favorite. I would like to add all of them to my queue without having to select them one by one.6. will be nice if we could set our perrent directory for the file browser and return to it quickly. Is there any way you could get any of your apps to run under Mac OS? I know people who would love your web building tool and it is what I used to make the perilous Marathon manual. Because, I believe my configuration is relatively common, and if your software doesn't run on those machines, you could be missing out on some users. I have been working like a trooper all day on calliope to get your feature requests in and have:*added so you can turn off the navigational aid*added an automatic updator*added so you can stream straight from youtube rather than downloading it (I have integrated this into the queue system so you could queue things if you wish)*I have corrected the errors with the youtube screen getting in the way when you alt tab*I have corrected the list of screens not always being accurate.I have not added disc ripping/burning, simply because my disc drive is actually at home and I neglected to bring it with me for testing purposes. Sorry!On that note I'd like to address some posts briefly as follows:First, to the poster about the disc burning (sorry it's scrolled from my screen), I couldn't help but laugh. You make a valid point and I actually did consider adding this capability originally. the reason I laughed was the way you wrote it though, it reminded me so much of a show called Dragons Den.Now, of course, how could I leave out Deer Wattson. that would not be elementary, Dear Wattson. (props if you get the reference).No, I was not deliberately ignoring you, but yes, I did miss out your post.I actually realised this this morning while considering my response from the previous night regarding Fubar V.S. Winamp V.S. calliope and considered I could simply update tonight with my findings after doing extensive testing. I am sad it escalated so.In any case, your error is one that I am rather confused and intrigued about. Indeed, the one poster who mentioned this being a common factor of my programs in particular has peaked my interest. I have been aware, of course, of the errors that cropped up when Sunrise was first released, though I believe since then mostly they are resolved?The problem with this fatal error is it could be many things, is the program not unpacking? Is there a compatibility issue?The mention of windows 7 got me wondering though (good old 7, hadn't thought about it in years!), and it makes me ask, are you running windows 7? I did a small amount of research before writing and it is possible this is what is causing the error, as programs compiled on windows 10, are designed to work on 10 based on the compiler I am using.Be this the case I will have to, perhaps, find a VM to be able to compile the 7 version for those users still on that operating system, but this may take time as my knowledge of VM's is very limited, and the only one I do have is, ironically, also a windows 10 Vm on a mac.that all being said, if you are not running windows 7... Then I'm stumped.I'll continue to research and think of if there is a better way I can diagnose through the compiler, perhaps through some sort of logger that you guys can then email over to me in times of problem.In terms of the next update, which I have decided to bump up to 3.1, I've held it back until tomorrow, simply because I need to update the documentation and I'd rather do a morning release so I can keep an eye on the thread, rather than an evening release that goes wrong while I am asleep.I hope this answers some questions, and if I did miss your point, question, bug or feature request it is not deliberate, and I will see it. First of all, the radio stream keeps jumping me back to the youtube area when I alt tab out of Calliope and back in for some reason. Second, After putting FreakyFwoof's Jamulus streams in there as a test, it wouldn't take either of them. That's one thing right there, my media player must accept anything I give to it. Now, if it doesn't do it natively, and there's a plugin, that's fine, but yeah, that's a mark against I'm afraid.Hopefully these weird navigation issues can be sorted out in time because that's another thing muddying the waters a bit. It plays immediately on enter press making it a good choices to leave open in my render directory for Reaper. I haven't tried any of the streaming things to see if that works as expected yet though.A few things of note. First, I'm glad that we can turn off the sounds for navigation as I think I know that something's changed by whether my screen reader reads new content, so don't need that. But the most irksome thing thus far is that whenever you go to a new screen, it jumps you into the first control of that screen. I do not like that. I'm blind, not dumb. I may not be able to legally drive a car, but I can drive a piece of software, so please let me do that rather than assuming that you know my intent.There seem to be some mislabeled screens. For some reason, Audio books and youtube randomly appear as youtube.Also for Youtube support, I'm not thrilled with the current state of it. I mean it does work in theory, but I would like to be able to just hit enter and have it play right there in Calliope like anything else. I don't want to mess around with where to actually download it or whatever, just have it download to %temp% or something and play it from there assuming MP3 format, since Youtube-dl lets you get wave but since youtube's compression is high, that's useless.Overall though, it's pretty neat. I don't know if it's necessarily a replacement for Foobar, I'll have to check out all of it and se if it handles streaming the way I'd expect, but yeah, not a bad effort. First of all, there's like no help for things, so if something isn't working, there's limited resources to help you with that particular component. Configuring it the first time how you like it with global shortcuts that don't conflict with anything else is annoying. Plugins like the Youtube component that rely on Youtube-DL will sometimes break because Google doesn't like you scraping their site and tries to block you in various ways, so you need to stay with the beta version. And if you forget to back up your config, Yay! You'll be doing it again in a year or so when your windows slows down to the point where it needs reinstalled. No need to worry about codecs and the like. I do that just in case I managed to incorrectly figure in the tail and so forth, and to make sure all effects rendered as they should.I'm not saying Calliope is bad, I'm just saying, if I have a platform that I regularly use, what's in it to make me change to this one? Re: Calliope version 3.0, more than just a media player Hi there.so I'll take this point by point and hopefully settle down the topic a little!First up, for those experiencing issues in so far as special characters, if you head over to the link and redownload there is now a copy that fixes these issues, as well as introduces an option to turn off the global keystrokes if you so wish.When updating, before you install make sure you turn off fast startup in calliope and then exit.Otherwise you'll still be running the old version!Now, lets address the calliope V.S Foobar V.S Winamp debate.I will preface this by saying I have never used Foobar, but I did use Winamp for quite a while.Now, first is it not true we have many things in our society that do basically the same thing, but in a different way? Take mac verses windows. Both systems will display this web page, both will allow me to write this form, but the way they approach it is different. I find one easier to use over another.By that regard, I can listen to an audiobook by going to librivox's website, I can listen to youtube on youtube's website... or I can just download Calliope and not bother with having to click many keystrokes just to achieve a simple end.I hesitate to do a side by side comparison of Calliope to foobar, partly because of my inexperience but mostly because that's just not PC.that being said, the first advantage Calliope has is no pluggins required, if I understand how foobar works, one of the big advantages it has is that you can make pluggins to do certain things. Which is great. It means you can add lots and lots of functionality. But it also means effort.Calliope? No pluggins, because it's already there. No installation fancy pants mcgee just open the program and off you go.Does Foobar have the following, too?access to radio directories for searching for streams easily,access to the librivox library,an accessible interface to youtube DL (I know it has some form of Youtube plug in, but I'm not sure how stable that is myself),sleep timers,the ability to look up top charts?The ability to look up song lyrics, albums, artists, track information?Music library management?I'm not pointing out where Foobar is wrong, merely I am concerned people have seen: "global keystrokes, customisable jump points, youtube" and gone, get stuffed! foobar for the win, baby!If you use Foobar, props to you. I've not got the patients to set it up. I like my programs to be accessible, easy and ready to go out of the box.That's what Calliope is to me.That's what winamp was, too! Regarding the back and forth between folks, please, I can only ask you focus on calliope, not the contentions of each other. Yes, I personally found the way Nocturnus wrote his post a whee more diplomatic than Ironcross, and yes, this is the second thread that Ironcross has, without preface, put up a product from a different source that does some or similar features to that being spoken about. But I do not mind. Nay, I encourage it.We are a small community and if Foobar works for him, maybe it will work for others.If Calliope does not work for him, that's also fine too.Do I feel he should try it and then say yeah, no, Foobar is my fave? Re: Calliope version 3.0, more than just a media player Hi Charles,When you refer to the Youtube DL screen I assume you are talking about the screen that shows up after you click run Youtube DL and after it has finished loading?while loading you will simply see a box that informs you what it is doing.The youtube DL screen has for instance, a text box in which you can enter links.When you click download, the download button and close button are temporarily hidden until the downloads are completed.The program will alert you when this is.This is to prevent accidental closure or redownloading by mistake.Is this what you are experiencing?Thanks for your fast feedback! Re: Calliope version 3.0, more than just a media player Hi again, I'm not able to exit the YouTube DL, and some of the buttons, including the exit button that were mentioned in the documentation are not showing up in the YouTube DL interface for some reason, also it can be annoying at times to have to shift tab to the screen selection list because it automatically sets focus to the first item in the selected screen, although jumping through the screens with alt and numbers should make it much easier...Well, for now I'm stuck with the YouTube DL screen and even closing it won't work since I have fast startup on, so I'll go ahead and terminate it from the task manager...I'll keep you updated on any bugs I find and or if I want to suggest anything that I wish to see in this program.Regards.
