Re: Digital Voice Recorders

That's correct, all I want it for is to record short notes, memos, and reminders.I ended up getting The Wilson. It sounded like just what I needed and was only $35.The company irritated me though. They claim The Wilson is designed for the visually impaired, but while that is for the most part true, there were problems. In order to learn how to use The Wilson you'll need a sighted helper to read their extremely poor instructions and translate them into something you can understand without sight. Even with a sighted helper, the instructions are so bad that some experimenting will be needed to figure it out because two of the controls are never documented. The manual goes on to describe how to hook The Wilson up to your computer via USB so you can use your PC to manage your recordings, though that is not required. The Wilson provides everything you need to do very basic recording management. The problem is, no USB cable is provided, and it's just as
well because there is no port to blug it into on The Wilson. It's my feeling that until they correct the errors in their manual and provide an accessible version of it, this company shouldn't be advertising the product as designed for the visually impaired.I considered getting one of the Olympus models, but the only models I could find favorable reviews regarding the device's accessibility were for older models that are no longer available unless you want to buy used, which I didn't.

Re: Digital Voice Recorders

Hi,The zoom h1 does everything I need it to do. It doesn't have voice feedback, but every Blindy in this world doesn't exactly need speech for everything, right? I actually would have gotten an olympus dm 620 right now, if it weren't for the discount over the holiday season. It all depends on what you want to use it for. You can also use the dropbox app on iOS, as well as many others. Just use google to find that. For almost any device out their, you should be able to find a piece of software to act as a recorder. But, I understand the reasoning for wanting actual hardware.

Re: Digital Voice Recorders

Well, do you just plan to record little personal notes and memos like you said? Do you want a cheap voice recorder, or an expensive sound recorder. Because if you just want to record notes, there are many options that don't cost 200+ dollars. Just figured i'd bring this up because you mensioned this in your post. You wanted it for notes and memos.

Re: Digital Voice Recorders

Hi.I got an olympus ls14 recorder for christmas last year, and I have to say that it's a real good recorder with a multitude of features at the users hands.Sure, there are some inaccessible parts there, but the main things like recording, editing changing settings is accessible out of the box.

Re: Digital Voice Recorders

The most popular ones among blind people, other than the plextalk and similar products, are the olympus line of recorders... they all have voice guidance, though limitted. It does more than well enough for the main functions though, and the recording quality is great.
