I played this mud extensively a few years ago, and the combat was brutal to try and get through. especially when you're fighting multiple combatants! it gets really crazy!I enjoyed the atmosphere of the mud, and walking around the streets gave a real feeling of danger and that anything can pop out at you in a moments notice, and you'd be in battle again. But trying to progress with a job line / career and it just got to be too much effort for the return.I'd love to come back if combat was given a blind mode, or at least slowed down the number of rounds per second.

@Ironcross, in epitaff it wasn't so much that the amount of information was overwhelming, just that the speed it was chucked at you at and the way it was formatted made it really difficult to stay current with what was going on. I have no problems with this in games like Clok, indeed I'd generally rather have interesting combat myself where you need to do different things, but obviously it needs to  presented in a way you can actually take in what is going on and react rather than having to always play catchup. Epitaff might be possible combat wise with really heavy scripting and aliasing, but personally I was never keen on having to effectively program my own interface for a game just to be able to play it, which is why it'd be nice if the developers did something about the combat to make the game properly accessible.

yeah in Epitaph you need to know all that to analyze your combat round by round, in order to play you have to crank speech. I get it though, its that same kind of overwhelming feeling like I got from playing NH for the first time. I also got it with CLOK's combat system until I began to get used to it and realized its actually there for a reason. But still, if you gave it your fair shake and realized its not for you, maybe you want to avoid MUDS with custom combat or advanced combat mentioned in their profiles.

@caio, when I say "spammy" I dont' mean in terms of descriptions of the action, I mean really long stat explanations for each and every round. The descriptions themselves weren't anything to write home about, but each was always followed by "g 7-7, h 10-4 dd 2-9" etc, all with lots of dashes and other punctuation to slow your speech down.

well, I'm currently trying to get in touch with the admin who made the game and see if he is willing to fix some of this problem is I don't no what to suggest, because you actually need those numbers they constantly go down in combat and can dramatically effect how combat goes  any help would be great

Well I tried this one again and had exactly the same problem I did before. The combat display is so bloody cluttered I can't get through the tutorial. I was so busy hearing hun 1000/100, stab 900/100 git 100/850 or whatever, I didnt' know what the game was actually telling me to do. is there a way to actually make the combat prompt briefer? I tried help combat and help prompt, but neither did much good. I had this problem before and rather assumed it would be solved by the screen reader fixes in the game, but sadly not it seems.

Lol Orin, your doing better than I did, when I tried epitaff I couldn't get past the tutorial sinse the combat stats were written in such a way they took ages to read so I couldn't get passed the fights. I have heard combat has been made briefer though, so I probably ought to give the game another try, indeed several muds with access fixes have been added to the whitestick.co.uk's games to play online page, and will get db entries eventually too, perhaps Epitaff is one that should be included if it's got screen reader adaptations?
