@11: My problem got solved. Seams like I had the 32 bit version installed on my 64 bit system. I installed the correct version last night, and so far it seams to be working fine. That will teach me to check the version next tioe before installing. Lesson learned.

@10:Thanks for sharing that, I have it installed in brave browser now. It can certainly come in handy when I have to read specific type of content.@9:I wasn't aware of that. Thought it closes when i close it. It certainly looks like so.@8:Oh, may be i looked up the wrong website. But that surely sounds a tough way to read epubs. Re: Epub readers for windows

Hi there,@1: I recommend Epubreader for Firefox and Chrome. As you probably know, epub files are just html (website like) files, packed with some additional data and informations in one file. Html is very accessible for us, as it is just a playn text with marked structures such as headings, links, lists etc.Tools like Bookworm or Balabolka just throw away these informations, what may be okay, if you don't need them, for example in a scify novel, but for technical and educational books, where formatting is important, having a proper renderer is very useful. And this is where epubreader steps in.https://www.epubread.com/en/As you most likely know, your browser is already capable of rendering html files, because... it is a browser.Epubreader is an extension to either Firefox or Chrome, which just takes the .epub file and renders it properly, like a website. You can turn pages with arrow keys, you can track your progress with percentages, make bookmarks and use all web navigation functions, like jumping to next heading, link, listitem, navigating in a table etc.And another biig plus... You can use MathML!!!Okay, this is most likely not such fancy thing for non-technical guys, but for crazy scientists like me, this is quite a revolutionary thing, as in pdf files for example, there is no support for accessible math content at all! With epub capabilities and a proper renderer like Epubreader, I can finally advice book authors a way to publish their work to be good looking and accessible in the same time.Happy epubbing.Best regardsRastislav

I love bookwurm, accept for one miner issue. It opens fine, it reads the books fine, but when I'm done, I have to go close it in task mannager. Alt+F4 doesn't do anything, neither does the exit option in the menu.

Re: Epub readers for windows

@7: no, balabolca is surely not command line. Just imagine trying to read through a book like gardens of the moon from the malazan series this way, pressing enter on each end of page, waiting for it to load, then using the review cursor of nvda to read. No, it's too horible. No one would do that, it's too grose, even for a command line fan like me.the interface is not horible, the basic things are very easy to master. For example:*to open a book for reading, create a new file first, by pressing ctrl+n, or using the file>new option. Note: if you opened balabolca for the first time, or you close all books on closing of balabolca, this is not necessary. Then, go to the file menu, then click open. Here you can select from many file formats, one of the advantages of this tool over many others. Once you have chosen your file, click open and...enjoy reading!*sometimes, you maybe want something to read your books, while you do something else on the computer, or, in contrary, you aren't at the computer but would still like to hear it, you found a great sappi voice for reading books and want to try it without messing with your screen reader settings...creating profiles specifically for adobe reader, etc. In this case, balabolca has you covered as well. with f5, you start reading. With f7, you stop it. Somewhere in the main window, you'll find a tab that says something like sappi5 tab. Here you can switch between tts platforms present  on your machine(sapi5, sapi4 and microsoft speech platform) After that, you'll find a list to select a voice to use, sliders for rate, volume, pitch, etc. That should be enough for now, if you want more, balabolca has a website and a manual included. Plus, you can post here if you decided that you really want to go for balabolca, instead of the other solutions mentioned here.

Very interesting suggestions.@2:Yes, i certainly think that QRead is a good peace of software. But, I can't spend 30 dollars right now on that.@3:Thank you so much, this software seems very fast and feature packed. I wish if it had a dark mode or high-contrast mode option too. I will post it on the issues page.@5:Thank you so much for the info. However, The software you mentioned, i don't understand how it works, don't want to use anything command line based software to read books.@6:i appreciate this way to read books. It could be very useful in situations where there's no software available. Thanks,

Re: Epub readers for windows

hello, there is also a way to read it with your browser but sometimes it would give you quite a few html or xhtml files. like 1 for the contents 1 for prolog and epilog if it's a novel, and one for each chapter. plus 1 or 2 extra.anyways, the way is this.open, or extract the epub file with you're zip compressor, preferably 7zip.open the file, there will be some files and folders in it. what you want to find is OEBPS.in it there is a text folder. the book text is in there.

for me, balabolca does the job, as it always did. now, with win10 on 64 bit, you'd think I would migrate to more modern things or what not. But you know what? As long as it works, hope it doesn't break on me soon, I'll still use it. I just hope, sometimes, that there is a version of balabolca for android, but that's just dreamming and wishfull thinking, I know.

Re: Epub readers for windows

If you have 30 dollars to spare, then purchase Q-Read and you will be able to read very comfortably epub books, PDFs, word documents, and more. I purchased it two years ago, and although it is not where I'd like it to be, I don't regret having spent 30 dollars on it. It is one of the few softwares that deserves its price.
