Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Is there a decent soundpack for this game? I downloaded the Mushclient one but it's tiny and I don't know how much practical use it would be. I'm testing out VipMud, so if there's a pack for that I'd love to hear about it.Edit: Nvm, got the Mush pack working. It's pretty basic but it's okay. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Kb is correct on assistance, though really buying 10 underwater breathing potions and just popping one when you need it is no problem, you get more than enough gold in game, especially if you sell off unwanted stuff you find from enemies rather than just sacking it straight off.Oh, and if you found the entrance to undersea shipwrecks you should be able to find the entrance to crafter's forge as it's a fairly similar process.I'm more a DIY sort of chap myself, though I have greatfully accepted buffs from more senior players on occasion too. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! For fishing, I am not sure if it is character strength or just fishing practice that determines how well it goes, since I noticed my poll was getting broken far less often once I raised the skill higher. Oh and once you get into crafter's forge, you can also learn the repair skill so you can fix your own tools, as tool breakage is a hazard until you've perfected your crafting. With crafting though, there are no level requirements, you just need to practice. Getting into crafter's forge just takes looking around, by which I mean use the look around command, then investigate the things you find, or just read the description and consider examining anything that looks like an entrance to a place where dwarves might live. This is also helpful advice for some other things such as finding the entrance to undersea shipwrecks, which is a mission you'll come upon relatively soon.Btw, my char is thile on there, though you probably picked that up by my extremely inventive character title . Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! to start fishing, there's a quest for level 1 in the hillock hills. It'll send you to Angler's cover where you can take up part of the quest that will give you 25% fishing skill for free and will tell you to catch some fish. I still can't do it because of my low str stat and it even eats a little of my money because if you catch fish that are too big for you (almost everything for me.) you can potentially lose your pole. The poles cost 200 gold, everything else is chumps change. Even at my level the price is negligeable even with needing to replace my pole constantly. There is also a repeatable fishing quest at Angler's cove from a fish vender. I plan to reserve time to fish mostly when they have their weekly fishing-related events. I won't win or come anywhere close, but it is time I have set aside for fishing. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! actually aside from tossing chum, fishing in erion doesn't seem too different from alteraeon in my opinion in terms of complexity and fun. That's not a bad thing in my book though. haven't gotten into the other crafting yet and kind of waiting for a mission or a quest to send me to crafters' forge. last time I went I couldn't figure out how to get in. anyhow, I guess I'm just not high enough level that those crafts become a thing yet. I'm only level 5 right now. what's funny is that I love fishing, even though I can't catch fish. My strength skill is terrible and I haven't put a lot into luck yet either. What's worse is that I'm a shade which means training both con and str is painfully hard even at the beginning. That said, I still try at it and know eventually I'll have the combination of stats and fishing skill to make it.One thing I do like is that they actually make you practice the skills related to some of this new stuff manually. You can't get a teacher to teach you fishing, you just have to keep doing it until you're good at it. Luckily, at least with me, that happens quickly. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Nice review, I might bang a link on the db page. One thing it didn't mention which I personally really like about erion, is the fact that where it has activities similar to other games, they work in a different way. For example, lots of muds have fishing, you get out your poll, type fish, wait for a tug and pull. Erion however has probably the most interesting fishing I've seen in any game, with ability to toss chum, need to jiggle the hook around to attract fish, and several stages of fish state. Same with most crafts really, they're not hyper complex or time consuming as in something like Clok, or lament, but they just have enough too them that they're interesting rather than annoying to do, and I'm hoping we'll see more in the future too. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Erion just released it's advanced crafting system!Copied directly from the developer's note:There are now advanced skills available for the various crafting skills! Advanced lapidary reduces melting time by a maximum of 25% and the level ofthe resulting gem from melting 3 gems together will be slightly higher thanthe average level of the gems. Advanced foraging reduces time by up to 25%. Advanced mining allows you a chance to find a second item and also reducesthe mining time by up to 25%. Without this skill, you will only find 1 itemwhile mining.Advanced blacksmithing reduces time to smelt ores by up to 25% when 100% learned, and it also has a chance to create an extra bar of metal per batch when smelting ores. This skill must be 100% learned to make electrum bars. Advanced leatherworking reduces scraping and preserving time by up to 50%, and it also gives you a chance to strip a second piece of skin when skinning a corpse.Come check it out! Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! With crafts it varies. You don't get xp for basic resource gathering like mining or foraging beyond the tiny amount used when you raise the skill, which you can get high pretty quickly. However, for using any of the crafting skills that turn one resource into another you get XP, up to several thousand xp for difficult tasks like smelting or gardening. There is also a repeatable mission given by the shopkeeper in crafters forge, where he tells you an item to craft and you have to go and make it for him, which can give good xp. In fairness, you could probably get more Xp slaying monsters in the time it took to make the item, but it's a fun way to advance your crafting skills and reward your character, whilst providing an alternative activity to monster murder nonetheless URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/541710/#p541710 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! actually looked it up. Every race has 3 tiers. t0 t1 and t2 though in some of them you have an option. When you skill up to that new race. You are still level 150 but your stats change dramatically based on what race you picked, then there is a crazy-high cost to go t2. The reasons you haven't seen them dark is because they won't even show up under help or info until you have them unlocked. The t2 races require special items, a very difficult quest, you need to be legend level in 2 different classes and need to have an insane number of faux levels, mudpies, and quest points as well as other things. some races don't even have their t2 implemented into the game yet. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! @Bookrage, I could be wrong, but looking at the race help, I think each race just gets one evolution, EG Human into angel. some races have choices of evolution forms, for example I think if your a dragon hatchling there are several different dragon types you can be, but I don't think there are five Tier evolutions for each race as far as I know. @Jayde, Yep, Aardwolf did have that problem, plus I never liked the random system of keep having to rebuy quest gear at different levels either. That being said, my one concern with Erion is that you hit level 150 and run out of new things to see with the only choice to make your numbers of stats bigger and bigger in the same areas rather than being able to try a new race/class combo, or even be able to try out lower level areas which might have been added to the game later on.You can start a second character on your player account of course, but your second character doesn't derive any benefits from your first character or get any benefits over all, though I think you can unlock the option to send items to your secondd character from your first if you want. Then again though, I don't know how extensive the level 150 plus game is in terms of stuff to do, so I am just speculating here anyway. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Aardwolf has absolutely no real challenge to it. You get to level 186, ask for a drag, and someone way stronger than you helps you shoot through the last fifteen levels. You spend your trains, go to remort, and add a new class. Every remort you get a little stronger, till you're r7, which basically means you have all the skills and spells of every class available. Then you go up a tier. this will slowly increase your TNL and make you stronger, and the max tier is 9. It's exceedingly repetitive, so I'm glad Erion doesn't do it this way. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! I thought you started over at level 1 when you shifted to the next race up. Otherwise it doesn't quite make sense since you have to do it multiple times to get all the way up the tiers. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! I'm going to wait and see what the race change is like myself a little, since it seems a bit odd to me that in Erion, once you hit 150, your essentially limited to 150 level areas to gain experience and extra levels and such, and yet can start a hole new race and gain faux levels and so on, even though you won't get any xp for fighting in most of the game since most enemies will be below your level. Not that the aardwolf solution of making you remort god knows how many times is much better either. One solution I did like was in flexible survival, where you could literally deelevel your own character and the level of all of your gear to the level of the area to gain xp, and even change the difficulty of the over all enemies in an area (giving enemies buffs and such), if you had lots of customised gear. Then again, since in flexible survival level dictated the number of combat abilities you had and how effective they were, rather than what abilities you actually gained, that was probably easier to do, and you wouldn't say have the problem of a level 1 character with a level 150 ability, or of suddenly not being able to use all your equipment if your higher level character was suddenly at a lower level. Then again, since my top level is 31 and I'm still working on getting my second class to the same level as my first, I'm not going to have to worry about that for quite a while . Then again, since my top level is 31, it's going to be a long! time before I have to worry about that . Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! what I think would be cool would be some more races to play. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! @Jade I know the rationale behind the slower levelling, however for practical purposes it's something that always gets me in Rpgs. You start as a nebie and go "wow! this is so cool, I'm getting all this cool stuff", indeed in many games I've had to slow down my own rate as a newbie just to explore enough. Then suddenly you hit this huge great hump and bing! your taking ages to get any new abilities/spells and working the same old areas. Erionn might not have fast progression but it's consistant. Oh and yes, I notice aardwolf is the same in terms of requirements, though equally with aardwolf the remorts can be a killer, where as erion doesn't have remorting. Btw, it does seem a bit odd in Erion though that you don't get a basic mob kil'l's worth of experience for things like mining and woodcutting once you've maxed the skills, since now crafting is a thing, it provides another way to level, and you do get a good wodge of xp for smithing and making items. About the new skills I'm not as sure of since I've not tried them as yet.In terms of the newbie experience with Erion, I'll say that this time I missed the old university, which not only introduced you to bits of the game one at a time, but also gave you the chance to explore an area, find some secrets and get some levels and gear.the tutorial shows you basic things like item manipulation, then your suddenly in Hillock hills. There are some newbie missions there, like exploring all of hillock hills or the missions to go to like tombstone park, but no hints as to what to try when or whom to go to, and of course there are a lot of other important parts of the game like locked doors and keys, houses, autoquests, Sigils, runes, crystals, the monster collosseum, and now crafting as well that might need a wee bit of explanation, as well as some ideas to point new players at different bits of the game specifically. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Leveling quickly in the beginning would be a newbie killer on Erion, because Armor Class is important to protect yourself from dying. If you don't take the time to gear up with equipment suitable for your level and increase your AC as you level, you will die a lot more often as the mob difficulty increases as you level. That's one of the reasons for our design.Runes are actually not necessary in the very beginning and more important if you want to kill bosses. That said, there are newbie missions in Hillock Hills (the recall city) that reward EXP runes, so you don't need to spend a ton of time searching for them.Ideas are welcome though, for how to make the beginning more interesting. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! I have been away from this forum and gaming for awhile, due to being busy with a young child. However, I've started to come back to gaming, when I have the time. I tried this mud out the other day, and felt a bit confused so I think I've missed something. The tutorial seemed extremely short, and then I was sent to the recall area. I managed to do a mission where I was sent to buy a helm and a weapon, but don't really know how to proceed from here. I did one quest, but I'm not sure if I'm just supposed to grind at this point, or what the best way to get started would be. Any tips? Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! Aardwolf also does this, Dark. Levels are always a certain size, and mobs at a given level give you roughly the same amount relative to what you need. The justification for AA-style levelling I've heard is that the more you know, the less you have to learn and the more it will take you to get there. In theory, this is true. It won't take you long to become a moderate piano player, for instance, but if you want to go from moderate to good, it takes longer and requires more effort. That said, it can be annoying in a MUD because some folks take this to ridiculous levels (UossMud, I'm looking at you). Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! One thing I personally like in Erion, is that levelling is always at roughly the same rate. It always gets me in games when higher level mobs are proportionately less valuable than lower level ones. What I mean is, lets say it takes 100 xp to get from level 1 to level 2, and each rat you kill gives you 5-10 xp. This means each rat is effectively worth one twentieth of a level. Now lets say to get from level 50 to 51 takes 10- experience, and each red dragon you kill gives you 1000-1500 xp. This means that even though the dragons are a hundred times more valuable than rats, in terms of progress, each dragon is worth only one or one and a half percent of your level. This always seems illogical to me. Whilst Erion over all doesn't have a super fast progression rate, (though you can speed it up by going hardcore, doing missions etc), I like the fact that the costs for levelling don't massively increase, so each level will take you roughly speaking the same amount of time. the one thing I do wish Erion had with all this crafting though, are crafting bountiesor crafting quests. I haven'tt tried foraging and gardening yet,but I do wish that for smithing and carving, you could get a little more for creating the items themselves. Edit: h, just checked the board and now we have a crafting bounties mission! that's awesome. Yes, you get xp for doing the activities, but given the amount of items it takes to raise the skills, it might be nice to have some point in making them, even if you cannot actually use them at that point. indeed, I confess I did find a bit of a loophole in the crafting system by just making a huge bunch of level 1 items out of wood, each of which just took one wood to make, and getting my crafting skill maxed that way, whereas it would've been much more interesting to be told to make items, then have to go and carve/tan/smith for the materials, and get rewarded for creating them.Anyway, I'll check out the new crafting activities and maybe get a few more levels too. Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More!
Re: Gardening, Foraging, Basket Weaving and More! To be clear, I don't mind working for levels and it doesn't need to be lightning fast. I'm not all about the hack-and-slash and nothing else. But most MUDs, in my experience, tend to let you get your first levels reasonably quickly, and then things slow down. Alter Aeon is a good example of this, where it takes no time at all to get to level 10 but then much longer to get to level 20. Now, it's a different style of MUD, and I respect that, but Erion just felt slow to me. To the point where I was getting bored. I did the exploration mission in Hillock Hills, did a couple of unscrambles and guess-the-phrase challenges, killed a bunch of mobs, but hadn't yet found any runes or whatnot. The issue I take is that in order to find runes, it probably takes time. Someone who is truly new to your game and may not be looking to hook up with someone instantly has neither advantage (grouping or runes) to help the grind go faster. So I'm not roundly condemning this place. I may come back someday. I do think, for instance, that years ago this MUD was actually -too fast, since I can recall getting to level 50 in three hours or so by doing missions...and by then, I had all kinds of insane gear as well. It was almost too easy. I just feel like maybe that was overcorrected just a hair; levelling isn't hard, but it's tedious. Fertilize and water your seeds to allow them to grow, and make sure the soil doesn't dry out or your seed or plant will die. When your seed has grown, you can harvest it.
