Re: I was searching for an API documentation and found...

Yeah, "they do stuff for the disabled" really doesn't undo all the bad they do.  And I do include Google, Facebook, Amazon, Uber, etc. in that statement.  It's usually not even altruism anyway, but maybe it is in China.  I can say it's certainly not in the U.S.  Everyone acts like Google or whoever does it because they are, and I'm sure people at Google care, but companies aren't the people that work in them at that size and the company itself certainly doesn't.I don't know what it is about blind people believing this is otherwise.  Maybe working it out is part of that crushing right of passage where you finally figure out that blindness really does suck after all somewhere around 18 or 20 or so.

Re: I was searching for an API documentation and found...

Not just that, but you completely misused the term. Propaganda is "information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view". Your search engine was not giving you propaganda at all. It was giving you relevant responses. They're irrelevant to you, but clearly, the article you linked to contains relevant keywords that were in your query, and therefore the engine gave it to you. Its not like the search engine can read your mind and truly understand what your searching for, so it does its best at finding you relevant material. Now, that wouldn't have been so bad. If you'd just done that this topic would've been a short 2-3 poster and we'd all be done with this. But then you had to throw in that bit about the US loving propaganda, as though China were better and didn't use that every day like it has for centuries, and that's what sparked this discussion. This was a problem of your own making.

And all of those uses are completely independent of one another. This article wasn't documentation that explained how something is used, but it does communicate information of how a certain thing was put together. Point is, documentation has more meanings than just a user manual or programming instructions. If Nuno's question is why this came up, the answer is completely dependent on what exact search terms were used.

Re: I was searching for an API documentation and found...

@1, probably because you assume documentation means a guide on how to o something, and that's not what t means.. if you just did a search for api documentation, I'm not surprised this would come up.@everyone else pointing out China's flaws, remember that there are also good things about that country. Get off your high horses. Some people love certain countries and cultures. A little too much at times? Maybe so. But China, like every other country in the world, has positives in its culture, history and traditions. Demonizing a country based on its political system and the way the government acts doesn't change that fact. Acknowledge the government and censorship are a problem, so are all the propaganda and privacy issues. But just because we don't do certain things as extremely in the west does not mean propaganda and censorship don't exist here, either. I hate some of the things that go on over there. More than just some, most... but your average Chinese citizen is not the one locking people away in camps or prison, and is not the person spying on your internet or phone activity. And as someone very proud of my Chinese heritage, there are just as many beautiful things to take into account if you can focus on something other than the freaking government. So find a balance, people. Some people here need torealize China is not all bad, and some other people need to realize that China, as nice as it is, does have its ugly side. Just like every other freaking nation on this planet, now or in history.

Re: I was searching for an API documentation and found...

I've never understood the point of nationalism (used here to mean loyalty/devotion to your country or its history). You were born in a place. Congratulations. Maybe you were born in a pretty good place, in which case you should be praising whatever random number generator exists rather than the place you happened to be born in. Sure, be proud of things that you personally do that might make that place better. Maybe even be proud of your parents for things that they might've done, since you know those people. Being proud of people from a hundred years ago who probably did just as many (or more) bad things as good ones is... kinda weird in my opinion. I was going to say this is particularly prevalent in America, but I realized recently that it exists everywhere, and the only reason that I notice it with America right now is because it has been very big in terms of news coverage in Canada recently.

I've never understood the point of nationalism. You were born in a place. Congratulations. Maybe you were born in a pretty good place, in which case you should be praising whatever random number generator exists rather than the place you happened to be born in. Re: I was searching for an API documentation and found...

To add a little to post 4, this extends far beyond just China as well. I've generally found this hole my country can do no wrong attitude particularly prevalent in a lot of less developed countries, and all I really wonder is, why? What have those countries actually done for those people?I'm just going to use England as an example here since I know our culture best. There are probably hundreds, if not thousands of TV shows, documentaries, films etc making fun of various elements of British culture, often either for comic relief, or to shine a light on our less than pretty history. Most of us, barring the idiotic fanatics you'll find pretty much everywhere, would probably agree with me when I say that we're generally willing to call ourselves out on our bullshit. Ditto for the US, although the hole BLM movement of 2020 has likely widened that gap just a little. But here's where it gets really weird in my opinion. If someone makes a joke about how all the brits love tea and crumpets and sing god save the queen every morning after dawn, it's generally seen as being in good taste, if nothing else. Make fun of, say, the Chinese, or Islam or whatever in a similar fashion, however, and you're instantly and universally regarded as a racist.Or, here's yet another example, Germany. I'm pretty sure 99% of Germans these days agree that Hitler was pretty much pure evil. Now let's look at Iraq and it's various sympathizers, who generally have a lot of, well, sympathy for Saddam Hussein, who was in many ways even worse than Hitler, certainly he was able to cling on to power for a lot longer, and in doing so had a lot of people killed.

Hi guys,I am not questioning whether the article is right or wrong. I just say that why the search engine gives me such results (I don't care whether true or false ATM) when I am searching for something totally different!

Re: I was searching for an API documentation and found...

Yeah, I mean, I'm not going to be so harsh, but why is it that so many people on here believe that China can do no wrong?  The U.S. is built on slavery, the U.K. is built on conquest, I don't know what Canada is built on but I'm sure it's built on something.  Basically all of Christianity is built on the crusades and stuff like that. But clearly China isn't a surveillance state, actually has a great government, definitely isn't rewriting/hiding history, and anything that anyone who isn't China says must be wrong.  Never mind that (for instance) Google can't run their search engine in China without complying with government censorship and blocking certain search terms, etc. Also, if you're going to say the U.S. loves propaganda, also add every other English-speaking country to that list, and quite a few that aren't.  To be honest, basically add the entire first world.  I don't know what world you must live in where every country but the one you're supporting saying the same stuff doesn't have some truth to it.  When we talk about things like religious indoctrination, surveillance, etc etc etc, it's not just the U.S. making things up out of thin air.  It seems to me that the only way to believe that it is is to ignore that basically every country is or has been a horrible, unethical monstrosity at some point.  It's unfortunate that that's China right now, but it was Japan's turn in World War II along with the U.S., neither of which was nearly as bad as Germany of course, not long before that was the UK and US doing slavery and conquest respectively, and so on.
