Re: Is QRead worth the money?

Other formats can be added to Bookworm. I imagine it is on the todo list, but it seems to not be under very active development right now. I might do it if qRead gives me a reason not to use it. Being a developer and knowing of an open-source alternative like Bookworm, I would not make the purchase of qRead today since I could just add things to Bookworm if I need them. I made the purchase years ago though, so I still use it for some stuff. YMMV

actually bookworm is cool, and it does have a feature that qRead does not have; the bookshelf, that's for sure. What I don't like as I said, is the lack of support for, say, txt, rtf, doc or docs. Other than that, its really awesome.

Re: Is QRead worth the money?

Quite honestly, that depends on everybody's individual needs.I personally bought qRead on 2017, and at leas tto me it is worth the money. Its been with qRead that I've read most of my theological texts, the left behind series among others, and to me its just amazing. Problem however is that it doesnt' gets updated quite often, and you don't hear from the guy a lot although I understand that it was mister Tyler Spivey the initial author of the software. You can also have bookworm for free, however what I don't like from it is that it just sort of reads epub and PDF, if you have other formats to read you just gotta keep converting them. I personally don't like this, but well

PC venders can also install their crapware through that process, so it's best to make your own USB with the media creation utility, or go out and get an iso and use rufus to create it.

That was not misgendering, stop playing that card for no reason. I wrote that without even realizing at first, and that was never the intention. If I knew you, you could say that, but I have absolutely no reason to do that. Now, for the real topic at hand, maybe I didn't do research, but I did use the option we are talking about. You have a choice of how much exactly you want to delete, and if you choose to delete everything, you are doing exactly the same thing you'd be doing when reinstalling Windows, the only downside being that you can't repartition your harddrive for obvious reasons.

Did I not just say that it deletes *personal* data? Since when did drivers ever fall under that umbrella? Say what you will about drivers for custom hardware or what have you, but OEM drivers will almost always count here. And, I dunno, maybe you have personal files in your windows / system32 folders? I personally don't though.Like, seriously, shut the fuck up and do some research. You have no idea how little patience I have right now. Also how little I appreciate being misgendered.

@18, it *doesn't* reinstall. At best it takes system files from the ISO and replaces them as necessary, it won't touch drivers, nor will it do anything with the rom. Bloatware, among other issues, will still very much exist. This is plain misleading.

Download the Media Creation Tool and use it to create a bootable USB device. Boot from that and follow the prompts, erasing your entire boot drive along the way.You shouldn't need to enter a product key if your computer is new enough. Yeah, do it via USB stick. Narrator starts with ctrl+win+enter, if I recall.  Drivers will almost certainly be fine.  It's almost always worth it and takes an hour at most, most of which you'll just leave it in the corner while you get lunch.

Yep, it'll get all the drivers, but if you just use reset and it gets its data from the recovery partition, then all the bloatware comes right on back. That's why we recommend the USB stick method.

yes, in my dell I did that and well, it worked, for drivers, just connect to internet and it downloads all drivers, and while they're downloading or before that you will run on the microsoft generic drivers which arent that bad, that is in my computer, again, it downloads the drivers automaticly so you shouldnt really worry about that

Re: Is it worth it to do a clean install of windows with a new laptop?

Well that depends on the manufactorer of your machine and how much bloat ware they put in their initial windows images.Generally I'd say it's a good idea to do so to have a clean slate without any programs or things you might not need.Just prepare a bootstick, start the windows setup from within the system or set the stik as the primary boot device in the uefi, activate Narrator when the setup has started and then follow the promts with setting up everything, formating the hdd and what not.You gotta have a registration key though which, if I might say so, can be picked up quite cheap at reseller sites if you don't have one already.Greetings Moritz.

Re: is it worth creating a steam account

Hello. I'm happy with steam. for developers, it may not be entirely profitable to pay a percentage of each purchase, but for ordinary players, everything can be used for itself. I really don't like that it takes a little work to check the game files. plus, as in all stores, there are discounts in which you can buy games very profitably. I know that there are other stores with games, but I personally always try to wait for the game in Steam. I do not want to produce a bunch of shops. I like it when I have everything in one library.

Re: is it worth creating a steam account

Depends. What features matter to you? Many games that are available on Steam are also available elsewhere. Code 7, Slay the Spire, Alt-Frequencies, A Blind Legend, Sequence Storm, etc. All also available elsewhere, be it on itch.io, Humble Bundle, or both.If you buy those games there instead, a bigger cut of your money will go towards the developers. You will get a DRM-free version. You won't need an account or an internet connection. You'll be able to make as many copies as you want. The games might be slightly more expensive, since with Steam you can wait for one of the regular discounts, once every season. You will not get a convenient library and auto-updater (well, depends; I know at least itch.io does have a desktop program, but I have not tested its accessibility). And, more importantly, since many games use the Steam UI for the achievements, you will not be able to challenge yourself with getting them all. And, of course, I'm sure there are also games which are only available on Steam. At least some of the fighting games, perhaps? So is it worth it? I don't know. I am a huge fan of achievements, so for me, it definitely is.Humble Bundle sometimes offers the purchase of both a DRM-free version and a Steam key. Redeeming that Steam key does require some skill with the screen reader (either JAWS cursor for JAWS or the ObjPad add-on or OCR on NVDA), but it definitely can be done. Several people I've talked to have had trouble with that platform, with games not showing up in their library, but I'm sure it's fine in general. So, perhaps you can try checking if the games you want are on there? In the end, the games are mostly going to be the same wherever you buy them. The choice is yours.

Re: is it worth creating a steam account

The Steam client is a pain in the arse to use, with an inconsistent, and for me at least, frustratingly crappy interface, and Valve should be shot for doing such a shoddy job and ignoring accessibility. However, there are some great, fully accessible games which can only be played with use of the client, and fortunately, once the setup is done, you can minimise how much you interact with  it, and essentially pretend your installed Steam games are just standard windows games, and since there are some great, fully accessible  games only available through Steam, the hardship is worth the payoff imho.

Look at it this way.IF you don't create a Steam account you'll miss out on games which are available there now or might become so in future. If you do create an account, you'll have access to the current library of games, and be able to play them, as well as potentially explore the accessibility of other games which no one has considered yet.

Re: is this worth it?

Depending on what you want to do, it could be more than worth your while to get the certification. One thing I've learned in the IT training that I am working on completing now is that yes, companies do look at the degree. However, certifications are really what they are looking for, and the more of them you have the more types of opportunities that could open up for you. As far as certification exams go, I hope you wouldn't have to go through Pearson Vue. I am currently trying to work test for a few different certifications right now, and have been going around and around with them just to merely get access to an exam using a screen-reader. I am actually surprised that any major tech organization, or any organization at all for that matter, would go through Pearson for providing their certification tests because they are not even accredited, and have a C rating with the BBB. I have submitted accommodation requests to them, so we'll see what happens. However, unless I've missed my guess, my gut feeling tells me that they'll find something wrong with what I submitted.

Re: is this worth it?

Depends if you want to go into programming and if you have prior experience.  I haven't done them.  My current company wouldn't care, probably.  But someone like Amazon would, if you're applying for a junior/first-job position.  The value drops off a lot after your first few years in the field, however.  Not to zero, but at that point they care more about references, experience, and can you solve our weird coding challenge. If you're going to try to run a contracting company (for which you will need a sighted partner) certifications are really useful because the kinds of people who will seek you out for small-to-medium contracts like the shiny, so there's also that angle on it.There are some that I know are really good though.  Anything by CNCF for example.  Though I don't know about accessibility.  By the time I was considering it, I was past the point in my career where I needed it plus had gone down a different path.  I'd have got it because at that point we were running a contracting company, but then we stopped running said company and it wasn't worth it.  But the problem with such certifications is that they're valuable because they're aimed at people with multiple years of day-to-day on the job experience in whatever it is and designed to be difficult even then.

Thanks to APFS snapshots, unjailbreaking is eazy. Every jailbreak now makes a root filesystem snapshot before it modifies anything. Besides, just install tweaks from official repos. By the way, unc0ver is kinda buggy in my opinion. Use something that uses libhooker instead of substrate or substatute. There is odysseyra1n, wich works on every version that checkra1n supports, there is also odyssey, witch is like unc0ver that you just sideload it to your phone and jailbreak

Re: is it worth jailbreaking?

In my opinion go for it if you have the resources, by that I mean either you are on 13.5 and you can unc0ver it or you have a Mac and you can do it on what ever version you want.In the time I had a jailbreak I was happy, I had my old, loved iPhone 4 unlock sound, had shortcuts on the volume keys, my phone was fast because I had some cleaner that actually did something, it unlocked without me swiping up and all that stuff.I could also sign apps dirrectly on the phone, so another bonus.Again, like @Nidza07 said, I wanted to try the beta, but if I ever have the chance to jailbreak, I will do it in a hart beat. Now trying to jb my 6 on 12.1.4, which is hard since no app signing with windows and I don't want to update to any 12.4.8 or what ever is the latest for that one because it will end up like my old 6, functional but slow like my 5s in the unjailbroken state, because when I unc0verred that one, I got read of the animations and it felt nice enough.

Re: is it worth jailbreaking?

Oh no, you will miss out the terribly buggy iOS updates, that is horrible. Speaking seriously though, Vo users anyways always have to wait for a few versions to fix all the bugs, at which point that version might even get a jailbreak. You can still do amazing things Apple won't ever implement just because they are Apple. Such things aren't even geeky or advanced, and I will list some examples. During the time my phone was jailbroken, I had it set up so that in the default music player, holding volume up would go to the next track, while holding volume down goes to the previous one. I had a notification when the phone charges to 100 percent, along with the TTS saying charging complete. I had a single shortcut to clear out the entire app switcher, think I configured it to power plus volume down. As well as a neat little shortcut to toggle Wifi, in this case volume up and down at the same time. During that time, my phone didn't crash a single time. If I ever wanted to get rid of the jailbreak, all I had to do was a device restore using ITunes. There is even no data loss, as it is always possible to restore from ICloud, unless you are trying to restore a backup of a newer iOS version on an older one, which of course isn't possible if you are getting rid of the jailbreak since you are always coming from an older version. So, if you have time to waste and don't mind reinstalling iOS using ITunes to get rid of the jailbreak, you can go for it. I do recommend however first researching some available tweaks and seeing if there is anything in particular you will find useful before jailbreaking. My jailbreak lasted for a quite short time, because iOS 14 beta came out soon after I jailbroke, so I wanted to try it out and see what is new. However, whenever we see a jailbreak for the newer versions again I'll surely do it again. It's quite neat and offers some amazing customisations with no major losses. There is usually almost no risk, and the warranty issue is very easily solvable by simply restoring your phone before taking it to service, and they won't know it was ever jailbroken. Of course, this isn't always possible, let's say in case your hardware breaks so badly you can't restore for some reason, for example the USB connector, so if you are concerned about that warranty could be a legitimate issue. In any case I do recommend doing this on an older device where the warranty already expired.

Re: is it worth jailbreaking?

the one word answer?  No.the long version?  Unless you're going to do something exceptionally geeky like flat out modding which is far beyond the typical jailbreak, the risks outweigh the benefits.  Jailbreaking was once a thing you practically had to do to make iOS enjoyable.  As Apple has refined its applications and services, including the notification center, which is worth mentioning for everyone who knows what owning an iPhone 4 was like, the need to jailbreak has become something of an obsoletion.  You'll void your warranty, you're unsecuring your phone by allowing in sideapps that aren't screened by Apple, you're mising out on iOS updates, and unjailbreaking is just as likely to go wrong as jailbreaking is.

Hi.I'm going to get a tv from a place called cash converters in a week or so, I'll see if they have ps4 controlers there.I'm probably going to borrow the ps4 for a couple days so don't want to spend to much. If the controler breaks in a week or so, then that's ok, as I won't be using it. I don't think it will but we'll see.

I don't know much about third party controllers, but I think the official Dual Shock 4 is worth it.Be careful though, it has 2 versions. The version 1 had some issues, so they created a version 2.The newer one is a bit lighter, has longer battery life, and most important, its analogues are made from a better quality rubber. The version 1's rubber would come off from use, or so I've read online.I have a version 2 that came with my PS4 Pro, but I've ordered a Last of Us 2 special edition one for the game.

Re: Is LEASEY worth it?

Ok, I'll bite.First, the developer is absolutely an interesting character. Their mood has a tendency to swing from one end of the spectrum to the other, he can come across as rude with a thin layer of professionalism to disguise it away. Then again, you don't really need to interact with the guy much. You make your purchase, your thing gets activated and stuff works from then on out.As for if you can run it with a demo version of JAWS, no, you can't, as you need to provide your serial when purchasing. If it's worth it ...honestly I think it depends. Are you new to computing? I would honestly say yes, absolutely. It's a reasonably idiot-proof way to work with a computer and do the most important tasks, think Windows for Grandpa. Is it worth it for advanced users? Hmm ...maybe. It has a number of scripts to make various applications less chatty or cumbersome, some power user tools to work with websites and documents etc. and the question has to be if you need those features, if you can get them anywhere else for a lower price or in a more suitable way etc.So ...while I enjoy a round of bashing as much as the next guy, I'll have the unpopular opinion to say that it can actually be worth the 40 or 60 bucks depending.I wish it did a few more things than it does, but still, I think it can aid productivity. How? go flipthrough the manual and find out, that bit's free anyway

That's your opinion., and that's ok. If we're talking just the games, I'd say $40 is a bragain in a half for 4 games, especially if one of them was $25. Haily, I assume you're on a perpetual and/or annual license of JAWS then since you were talking about switching to JAWS anyway. So to that end, we still don't know if demo users of JAWS can buy Leasey outright.

People are still hung up on the q9 acquisition plus exclusive games. Just for the record, the attitudes displayed here are exactly what turned Lulu away from this forum, and if I remember correctly, the games portion in general. She was the team lead for the game development endeavors, given Bryan has said he isn't much of a games person himself. Even when the price was higher initially, the hatemail they ended up getting was definitely unwarranted. But now, think. AS long as Leasey works with demo licenses of Jaws, you get 5 (count'em) 5, games, hardly any of them valued at a $0.00 price-point, for the price of one formerly available title plus a McDonalds+Uber Eats excursion. I say that's a bargain in and of itself.

@Brad: But also remember where older people might be getting their computers from. They aren't always getting it from the person next door. They may gget it from a vr agency if they've recently gone blind. They may have gotten one direct from Hartgen Consultancy. They may have gotten one, and training for it, from a v a hospital. NVDA is not recognized on a large-scale by these training centers, so that's where Leasey/Dolphin Guide comes in. So for people like that, it is beneficial.

Ok, I'm going to be the minority voice.I like it, because although I am an advanced Jaws user, I've found that it makes editing in Word much faster and more efficient, at least for me. Selecting and moving blocks of text was not easy, until I got this product, and I do a lot of that while writing.I would say this is a product that will hugely benefit brand new computer users, or those who are elderly for example, and don't want a lot of bells and whistles. In other words, it's good for people who just need something to work simply.I do agree though, that the "surprise" charges when you aren't ready to upgrade are definitely off-putting.But the developers have always seemed like really nice people, as much as you can know anyone online. So, is it necessary?I think that's something an individual would have to decide on their own.But jmo, there are a lot of things I like within the software.

Re: Is LEASEY worth it?

I think they would've gotten more sails if they had have taken the Dolphin GuideConnect approach to this. The cool thing about GuideConnect is that it doesn't try to shove a screen reader down your throat, and is easy to use.. It has it's own web browser with all the things you'd expect as favorites, facebook, ebay, etc. It also walks you through setting up an internet connection, which for the target audience of these products could be a little overwelming. The idea of this is you use it and over time you sort of learn windows by using the app, then when you're ready you can upgrade to a screen reader like JAWS, NVDA, etc. They don't make it similar to any screen reader aside from the fact that the web browser commands like h for headings exist. It's also the only way to listen to NLS bard books on the pc for some reason. NLS has a software to down, load books but they can't be bothered to make a player. It also has access to NFB newsline, and pretty much everything else from EasyReader. The one thing that's bad about it, the price. It's 795 dollars US. Mind you you don't have to pay for updates like you do with JAWS and Leasey.

Agreed, though if it requires a functioning jaws license in order to work, well, let's just add an extra few hundred dollars on to that for those of us not lucky enough to be in the promised land. Let's also not forget how much it originally cost, on top of the jaws license I might add, and it's clear he only decreased it in price because for quite obvious reasons it wasn't making the sails he expected.

Re: Is LEASEY worth it?

Assuming the software remains at $41, I'd say $41 is worth it if you're after just the games. Let's see. $25 for q9, the farming game on its own might have been worth a lot more than the remaining $15, but the other $15 gets you the three remaining other games. That's a bargain as long as the JAWS demo serial number is accepted by Leasey.

Re: Is LEASEY worth it?

For the Windows clipboard history, keep in mind that it is only available on Windows 10. With that in mind, you have to go to settings, system, clipboard. In there, you should enable the clipboard history toggle. There you can make it either save only on your device, or sinchronise to your Microsoft account so you can use it across devices if you need to. After this, you can press Windows plus V in any edit field to view a list of last saved 25 items, and press enter to paste one. Use leflt and right to navigate, or escape to exit.
