Re: Scrolling Battles Pro Hi all,So if you come on SBP, you'll notice the map has slightly changed. Mohamed and I did some improvision to work around a bug. Basically, if you stand next to a wall, if the person on your other side tries to fire at you, instead of hitting you, they hit the wall, while you are still able to hit them. What will now happen, is once you jump over the wall guarding the safe zone, you'll be teleported onto the bridge above the lake at a random area. This is to prevent people from camping outside the safe zone wall.Hope this helps. Most people were just tired if SBP this, SBP that. Given its history in the past I don't blame the peoople who were highly against a rewrite. However, there was some interest shown, so I wripped out the server code and a lot, and I do mean a lot of the client code and just rewrite it on the server. This as a result cleared up a lot of the mess we were dealing with. Players not syncing as htey should, items not removing from the client when they were no longer there anymore, problems with the server updater and custom servers, the server list going down and changing for no reason what so ever, on and on and on. I cleaned up the code and started everything up again. Asides from a few hickups here and there, we sorted everything out with the player safezones, etc. Still, there were only a few players who were online and most of them were just on afk.This brings me to my second point: time. I don't have the time this year as I once did, now that I'm starting college and trying to get my life in order, maybe even moving out on my own soon, I can't spend 3 days coding patches and adding new features. The demand in making online games is just too much at the moment, and I just want to keep myself very distant from online games for now. Anyway, I have left the server up on the machine if anything happens. All maps and player data is still here. SBP is once again being discontinued, and this time for the last time, at least on our end. Part of the agreement with mason was that he was still allowed to maintain and develop his own version of sbp, so you may still see updates from him but of corse using the older sbp before it was rewritten, but I wouldn't count on it since I dout he cares much more than we do.I'm sorry to those I've dissapointed with this decision. I think it's been pretty obvious how little I've contributed to the rewrite in general, the last time I really worked on sbp was probably in about april of this year after which I just completely lost any hope that there was much that could ever be done with the game other than small bug fix updates. The rewrite only prolonged it's lifetime, and it's about time it died. Myself and Ivan both have bigger and better projects we have been spending most of our time on. There's my livestreams to think about, then there's bloodbath and extreme runner, both of which have much more potential and interest from testers than sbp probably ever did. Not to mention my livestreams which take up a lot of time I could be spending coding, but I'm not complaining because I enjoy those streams a lot hence why I've been doing so much lately. We also now have a peak system, so the server logs the max players online and notifies everyone when the peak is reached. As the sidescroller games are quickly losing user interest, you could add new concepts or completely alter the old ones. Inventory system eg. Red spot, STW, Ultra power, Fire fight and a few other games have had the inventory system. Personally speaking, these fancy schmancy cool things able to carry a tun load of stuff is getting boring to me. Player could put an entire mountain within them without breaking out a few sweats. Cart wheels, barrows, stationary depots, military backpacks limited to hold a few items are new concepts. While moving around a barrow or cart wheel sounds weird, I only named them to cross the idea. You could add other new features too. New smart MPCS eg that could be hired and deployed in watch towers, infirmaries to heal the player, infantries to keep the front line busy, vehicles to move units, choppers to cut down any air resistance, etc. If this game is not going to be a RPG/RTS, then again things could be twisted a little. Different types of bombs, bombs with the ability to change terrains (Blowing pits/ setting huge fires), chemical weapons to poison, blind, torture, mutate, infect, or kill players. Tech labs that could be built over time and make remote weapons to control other players, make them to do something, weapons to disarm, disembowel, disfigure, disable, disjoint, guns that kill with a single shot, devices to make players invisible, reincarnate, capture other players and more. Heck, you could even turn this into a magic game with players able to brew potions and cast spells haha.I hope my ideas were interesting to take a look at, if not, sorry to bother. As skylord already said, from the player perspective not so much changed, the menu still sounds and feels like sbyw3, the safe zone map reminds strongly like it was from ultra power, and no single player and custom srvs, which where 2 things that made the game really fun to play. Re: Scrolling battles pro There is an update available, but it doesn't actually download the zip file. Downloading the file from the website gives me the same version. If the automatic check for updates feature is this broken, you might as well remove it from both the server and client. It should just have it check for new versions and copy the download link or something like that.
