Re: Upcoming Free Accessible Sound Design Course @38 It's going to begin with giving everyone a good, solid knowledge of EQing. I have all sorts of filters and effects but EQ is what makes a sound absolutely shine, it's the only process I use on every single thing that I do, and it's the only way to balance sounds in layers (apart from sidechain ducking and such but that will come later too). Another really big thing EQing will do for us is, it will double the amount of usable sounds on FreeSounds because we'll be able to clean up sounds with noise or edit out certain distortions. I don't want people to feel like they need to deviate outside of this forum regarding exposure of their development. I do, however, strongly recommend taking part in the interactivity of this course. I haven't created a course for sighted people because there are hundreds but also, they're competition and I don't want to give away my secrets. However, as there are no other accessible courses on sound design that I know of, I'm happy giving all of you my secrets because I want you to succeed and when you get rich and famous as a sound designer, I want you mentioning my name. ***Warning***I take audio licenses very seriously. If I get wind of people passing around audio which they do not have permission to publish or upload on the internet, I will stop the course immediately because I do not want my name and the name of my business associated with an audio piracy ring. Audio license types:CC-0 - the best kind. Creative Commons Zero - you can do ANYTHING with this sound. You can even download these sounds off of freesound.org and sell them as assets. This is the ONLY type of sound you can sell as a sound - every other license type must be a part of some type of project or media. CC-BYThe most common license - Creative Commons - Attribution. You MUST give credit to the creator if you use this in any form. You can copy and redistribute this sound in any form. You can adapt it for any purpose, even commercially. CC-BY-NC Creative Commons - Attribution, NonCommercial.No money must change hands whatsoever when this is used. That being said, rarely do people get in trouble for working with unlicensed audio in a personal capacity. I just thought it needed to be said that I will not risk damaging my livelihood if laws are breached in association with this course.If you're looking to make money in the future with this stuff or with Sable, I urge you, as strongly as possible, to make a library of CC0 sounds you find on freesound. Even if it's a sound you don't know if you're ever going to use, if it is a high quality sound, grab it and it is now YOURS forever without limit. Plugins and VSTs are great and all but they are mostly shortcuts to things you can do yourself, through EQ, gain, etc. I plan on focusing this course on making people experts at the basics of sound design, through which a lot of the plugins and VSTs you get are irrelevant. We won't be doing music either. Maybe later. Re: Upcoming Free Accessible Sound Design Course @defenderA lot of vst's that rely on visual interfaces often require some form of scripting or OCR to get around, but a lot of the stock PlugIns that come with Reaper are usable via their parameters, and you can get pretty far with them. I find that a lot of smaller, free vst's are more likely to be usable since their parameter list is often a lot smaller. One of the Cakewalk vst's I used to use (I think it was Dimension Pro) had over 800 parameters or something scary like that. The Windows 10 OCR really opened up the amount of vst's that we can get some use out of. I have a license for it and recommend that, especially if you're selling your stuff. I also agree with 216 about using SWS because it gives extra functionality. The install order I use is reaper, SWS, then Osara. By the way, if anyone does see fit to buy a reaper license, copy it into your clipboard, the entire thing, before you start reaper, and it will say something like, "We found a Reaper license in the clipboard, would you like to import it?" You click yes, and providing the license is valid, that's literally all you have to do to register it. When it starts up, the license and the name to whom it's been registered is spoken. After the 60 days are up, you can still use it. After starting the program, You have to wait about 10 seconds at the nag screen before the skip purchase button is available and then you can use it for free. Re: Upcoming Free Accessible Sound Design Course @4 I thought about doing Goldwave, Omer, but from what I'm reading, Reaper is among the best software you can use - it holds its own with the highest quality software on the market and it's free, and at most it's $60. I think that's pretty cool, we may as well begin the course with the best accessible software out there. I hear a lot of good things about Goldwave, but with Reaper I think everyone will be able to produce stuff they could sell online, or produce work for a sighted game. Re: Upcoming Free Accessible Sound Design Course I just installed Reaper, it says you will need to purchase a license key to use it after 60 days. The licenses are $60.Reaper will be the most powerful software under $300 (and I'm told it still can match up quite evenly with the high end stuff) and it's the only accessible software I know of. This might not be something we can get around but if you're serious about being a sound designer, I think $60 is reasonable. We'll see if we can get around this down the track.
