Okay I confess I've been trying this one, but I'm not really sure. For a start, the command syntax is really annoying and doesn't accept abbreviations, for example instead of kick target, it's kick at target. Instead of beast speech being automatic, you need to type use beast speech at your message etc.I like the fact that combat is a little slower, but the syntax is quite clunky. Also, the game doesn't really seem good for quests or the like, lots of running around smacking things, but not in as interesting a way as say Erion or Aardwolf, particularly since the newbie start is so "go here and kill this" the game is more schizophrenic than atmospheric.The ascii map is also annoying, and there's no way of turning it off from what I've found, you get it whenever you look at anything. The writing isn't  bad in some locations like cities, but again, given that basically the game seems like a giant slaughter fest, I never really felt thatimmersed into things, or as if I was exploring another world particularly, especially since NPCS were rather thin on the ground and forth wall breaking. Again, maybe I've just not got far enough, I've gone through the newbie fields, though there there were some things to play with that didn't work and gone to one of the other areas, but I've not really seen much that distinguishes the game so far, I might just restart a char on erion instead.

Any specific screen reader adaptations with this one? IN particular, I notice that a lot of the race info pages list colours and coloured auras. I also presume there's a way to customise the prompt to show important stuff.

I think you can still use the cat and stuff, but you won't be as proficient as say someone with the beastmaster path. I think no matter what path you choose, you keep all your skills you just won't get the bonuses to the skills associated with the pathway you choose.

From what I read, you can be 2 guilds at  once.You can also get some gold by reading help newbie areas and looting the weapons from the goblins/eq monsters and selling them. usually, this gives from 150 to 1000.

So...is there a preferred weapon type for the ranger guild?And is it bettr to get the 600 gold for Mad Hettie's stuff vs the weapon shop stuff or...? I'm not sure which I should go for...but my next plan is to train swords to match my bows and have both on meEDIT: Also, yeah, minotaur's a fun race currently. That 1 mill gold though for castleseep.Hopefully I can get that easily when I get down to gold gettting. Somore questions1. I'm leaning toward adventurer as my pathway. Do I need armor for it? The pathway mentions very light armor, sword and archery which appeals to me. But I also want to keep my wildcat. Will I keep that or should I go for a path that gives beast mastery? Or can I do multiple paths, like can I max out adventurer, then say okay, I want to do the hunter path now?

I've got a level 12 or so ranger, but man I suck at weapons. Any advice on what to do for starting weapons? I can get the 200 or so gold for a starting weapon easily, and I can train my skills easy, but I keep stumbling and missing attacks. Did I miss a skill to deal with that?

Oh man, I played this a few years ago and hated the syntax, but then I played unofficial squaresoft and I am now like let's just alias the shit out of my attack skills and so on. I had a char that was lvl 8 ranger and I played for like 3 hours today and got 2 levels. One thing I really like is the summary command, it tells you how much xp you get and breaks it down to the minute, so its good so you know how much xp your earning per minute.A useful thing is called chaining. Basically you type chain skill:skill so for me its chain kick:kick and that will repeat the command until the mob is dead.I think at some point, I will create another char and make it a necromancer or something, seems pretty cool with the corpses and stuff, you need to combine corpses to make more powerful monsters and so on. The game reboots every 24 hours, so eq saving/renting is a thing. So that is probably where most of your gold will go. In future, I want to create a castle since that seems pretty cool.

Select is an alias that is part of output functions I think? Try disabling that and using select again. If that fails it's unfortunately probably part of mushreader; in that case I don't know what to do.

If you want to just read how it works, type help ranger quickstart. If you read it, it will tell you to read help ranger combat, if these helpfiles exist. they did for me
