Re: evolve, a new incremental game

Had a quick look at this but yeah, the layout needs some fixes, especially since you don't even get told "clickable" about what resources you have to go around. Its a potentially fascinating idea, especially for me who loves bio chemistry, but at the moment its a miner pest to play.

So the dev has been unrestricted, and i hope the accessability will be improved. Currently i stopped playing not cause of accessability issues(there's almost none), but cause the game is to waaay slow for my liking.Like you work hard and wait much time to get only +2 max citizans? this really makes me bored and i really don't have any patience or motivation to play a game cause it's tooo slow. I'm sorry if this was harsh, but yeah, it is what it is.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

This is a text explanation of the flowchart found at the bottom of the "Evolution" page of the wiki. The flowchart shows the evolutionary path to get to each species. Read no further if you prefer to figure it out yourself. The starting point for every species is Phagocytotis. Phagocytotis branches into four categories: arthropods, eggshells, sexual reproduction and mammals. Anthropods is a genus that includes the species Mantis, Scorpid and Antid. Sexual reproduction branches into the genera Chloroplasts and Chitin. Ent and Cacti are the Chloroplast genus, while Sporgar and Shroomi are the Chitin genus. Eggshells branches into the Ectothermic and Endothermic genera. Endothermic includes Arraak, Pterodacti, and Dracnid, while Ectothermic includes Slitheryn, Gecko and Tortisan. Mammals branches into the genera Humanoid, Gigantism, Dwarfism and Animalism. Humanoid contains Human, Elf, and Ork. Gigantism contains Ogre, Cyclops and Troll. Dwarfism contains Kobold, Goblin and Gnome. Animalism contains Cath, Wolven and Centaur. There are hidden races not included in this flowchart that are unlocked through game mechanics. Species in the same genus have the same 2 minor genetic traits. For example, each species in the Dwarfism ("Small") genus have the traits Small and Weak. You can learn more about the races and traits on the wiki. Race link hereTrait link here

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

Hello. First I want to say that you have a great game. I am totally addicted, and you have inspired me to create my own game. I think that I only have three requests. The first of these is that I want to know how much electricity I have. Second, is there any way that we could put timers to count down when resources are full, for the time oriented among us.   I have played many idle games, and I like to know exactly what I am getting into when I am filling up a storage. Third, the crate and container system is a little interesting, and I have no idea where to see the amount of resources you need to build a crate, so if someone could explain that to me. Keep up the good work.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

I tried to play, I really did. What set me off is the random jump between how much food you are gaining.  For example, one second I may be gaining two units of food, and the next I am losing four.  I cannot build more farms, because that does not seem to help. There is no technology available that can help with my problem.  The message queue stays completely silent...  and I had 11 farmers and about 13 farms with 32 souls in total.  It also was really annoying to only have the access to the cabin as a means of increasing your population.  That I can deal with, I just can’t deal with losing food no matter what I try.  If somebody can explain my issue, I am more than willing to try again

@54 and 57 You should probably make suggestions for the game in the Github or Discord. The dev may not check this forum very often. @58. Weather, seasons, morale, farming technology and farmer jobs impacts the amount of food you gain. Weather is random. Seasons cycle based on the time in-game. One month in-game is 140 seconds in real time. Morale is effected by unemployment, some weather, seasons, job stress and entertainment. Job stress can't be reduced, just offset by entertainment. Entertainment is gained by Entertainer jobs from the Amphitheatre. More advanced technology later in the game adds more morale options and farming buffs. In the early game you have to play actively to keep a close eye on your food, and click the gather food button as necessary. Later on it's not much of a problem.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

You guys should probably make suggestions for the game in the Github or Discord. The dev may not check this forum very often. @57 To build a crate you click the + symbol beside the resources. Clicking the + opens a new window with three buttons, "construct crate, "unassign crate" and "assign crate". Hovering over the "construct crate" shows the cost, which is 10 plywood for crates and 125 steel for containers. Clicking "assign crate" assigns it to the resource that is beside the + you clicked. If you hover over the "assign crate" button it states the amount of resources each crate stores. @58. Weather, seasons, morale, farms, farming technology and farmer jobs impacts the amount of food you gain. Weather is random. Seasons cycle based on the time in-game. Clicking the + opens a new window with three buttons, "construct crate", "unassign crate", and "assign crate". Hovering over the "construct crate" shows the cost, which is 10 plywood for crates and 125 steel for containers. Clicking "assign crate" assigns one crate to the resource that is beside the + you clicked. If you hover over the "assign crate" button it states the amount of resources each crate stores. @58. Weather, seasons, morale, farms, farming technology and farmer jobs impacts the amount of food you gain. Weather is random. Seasons cycle based on the time in-game. One month in-game is 140 seconds in real time. Morale is effected by unemployment, some weather, seasons, job stress and entertainment. 100% is the base morale. Each 1% under 100% morale gives you 1% less production in every resource. Every 1% above 100% gives you a 0.5% production boost in every resource. Job stress can't be reduced, just offset by entertainment. Entertainment is gained by Entertainer jobs from the Amphitheatre. More advanced technology later in the game adds more morale options and farming buffs. In the early game you have to play actively to keep close attention on your food, and click the gather food button as necessary. Later on it's not much of a problem.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

I appear to be stuck. I cannot get steel, and I cannot research the technology required for smelting steel without it.  I have built every single building available to me, and the latest resource I have unlocked is coal. I only have two technologies available to research, Master craftsmen and crucible steel.  In the civics tab, there is nothing that suggests working with steel. I cannot buy the resource in the market, primarily because I have not unlocked it. What am I to do?  Am I supposed to go on the raid? That is the only thing I have not done.

@64Smelters produce steel by clicking the top left corner of the Smelter button. It opens a window that will look something like this:SmelterFueled 0/1Lumber | CoalIron Smelting 0 | Steel Smelting 0To use it, you have to click the arrows beside the lumber or coal buttons to select that as fuel. The left arrow removes fuel and the right arrow adds fuel. If you click the "Iron Smelting" button, it increases iron production by 10%. If you click the "Steel Smelting button," it produces steel instead. The number on these buttons tells you how many of your smelters are dedicated to each job. Factories also have a production interface that opens in the same way. In that interface you choose between three different products.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

The factory consumes copper and aluminium in order to produce alloy, do you have a surplus income of both?Assuming you are producing both then you need to assign a factory to produce alloy; the factory is one of the things I have not yet reviewed for accessibility so you might be having trouble assigning the factory production. There are arrows that reduce or increase the number of factories assigned to produce a material similar to how the smelter worked in the past.Hopefully someone else around here can help you decode how to interact with it until it gets it's usability update.

yes I have a definite suplus of both copper and aluminium, so looks like I will have to wait for the accessibility update before I can continue. because quite a few of the researches need alloys now. there are only 2 elementswhen I get to the factory. the alloy clickable link, and the luxurious goods clickable link, and of couse there's the clickable that closes the factory. and I actually made 2 factories, and made sure it has power supplied to it, but pressing space on either the clickable goods does not seem to do anything.

Export copies your save string to your clipboard (it also displays it in that text box). You can just paste it into a text file to save it or directly into another browser. To import paste the string in the text box and hit import. You have to reach 100% to complete an ARPA project before it will do anything, sorry ARPA is just another thing that needs some accessibility love.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

thanks for your detailed explanation!i'm now trying to upgrade my arpa projects as I have not enough knowledge/money cap to proceed with some of the upgrades for the bio lab/university/wardenclyff, I guess u know what I mean. thing is, I don't really know which are the resources needed for each of the projects, e.g. if I want to upgrade stock exchange, what are the things I should focus on making? sometimes when I press space on a percentage button, the project percentage actually moves, but most often it does nothing. I kind of figured that to upgrade the super collider, I need polymers (please correct me if I am wrong), but I can't really figure out what the other projects require?thanks, and keep up the great work!

MAD (Mutual assured destruction) is actually the midway point, it's the first of two resets currently available; the other one is late in space. It's recommended as this is your first run that you use MAD as soon as you can and start a second run, but this is not required if you don't want to.One of my players recently wrote a game guide which you might be interested in reading:https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hIn … 2dA4JhtuM/

I have mutated the jean 3 times at least, and from what I understand, each multation gives 1 plasmid, and some jeans. the guide mentions that u should reset at about 100 plasmids, it seems like it's going to take quite a while more for me to get to that amount of plasmids. what am I missing here?also, if I decide not to reset yet and launch in to space, is that area accessible yet?

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

You misunderstand the guide, the point to resetting is that you gain massive amounts of plasmids for it. Somewhere around 100-120 is the goal to gain from a reset. You'll never get that many from gene mutations, those are only a minor bonus.

hi just click the plus button of the resource u want to increase the storage for and then at the bottom of the page u will find extra buttons for u to construct the crates using ply wood and u can then assign the crate to that resource which will add to your storage for that resource.as for steel u will need to research the crucible steel project, or if u can't yet, u will have to buy them from market. once u researched crucible steel, u can then smelt steel from the smelter options.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

Hello, I'm Demagorddon the developer of Evolve. How can I improve accessibility for the game? I've tried out NVDA and this might just be due to my inexperience with it but to be honest I don't understand how you manage to play the game at all. Before I can make a plan to make any serious improvements for accessibility I need to understand the issues better as well as the tools you use to play it, so I'm here to ask you what the issues are that need to be solved. Are there special hot keys you use for navigation? I see there was concern about the multiplier keys used for buying things in stacks. Is control, shift, or alt being bound to a game function interfering with your own shortcuts? If so which one is the problem? Are the biggest issues navigation related or lack of context when an action is focused? Which elements are the most confusing to interact with?Is the general layout with the tab containers navigable? What about the popovers are those a problem? it was suggested to me that a separate accessibility interface could be necessary but i'd like to avoid that if possible as if the problems can be solved with a unified interface it makes maintaining the game much easier. I may add a screen reader option to the settings if it becomes necessary but I'm looking to first try and fix the existing interface to be more screen reader friendly. Are there special shortcuts used commonly by screen readers which I can incorporate into the game to make it easier? For example I see some elements like H tags might be given special weight, however i'm not sure if incorporating them into the game code would actually be useful.I look forward to hearing from you all on how to best improve the accessibility of evolve.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

I can say for sure that separators, lists, and headers are useful for screen readers

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

Hello @Demagorddon,I'm very, very glad that you are writing here!Well, first off, i'll try to give an accessibility feedback and i hope it will be useful.1. I'm using NVDA.2. Headings for each resource would be very helpful. For example:heading level 1 $113.2K / 113.2K23.84 /sHeading level 1 (the name of your race.Etc.That would help navigating resources of the game.2. I guess you have weather on pictures, right? It would be super helpful if you could display a text information on weather.3. Tooltips. To check the price of an item, or the descryption of an item, you need to mouseover the item. The trimps developer somehow made buttons next to the item, and instead of mouseover you press this button, and it auto speaks the item info. I don't know nor html, nor _javascript_ so i can't tell you how he made this.4. Headings againYou also should make a heading with the name of the tab you are in now, cause that again would make navigation more comfortable. The heading should be below the tab list and resource list.5. Evolution flowchart. When i went to the evolve wiki, i found out that there is an evolution flowchart so you could control the process of your evolution, but to my disappointment it was inaccessible. The screen reader just reads it out like graphic evolution flowchart and that's all. It would be cool if you'd make the html file with a table or something like this to navigate the evolution paths so we too could choose what we'll be evolving in to.6. Action multiplification. Sighted could hold ctrl, shift or alt to multiply an action and press the left mouse button to confirm, while we can't do this. The way you did the market multiplification is pritty accessible, btw.I think that's all i found out for now. Keep up your great work!

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

Hi. Firstly, welcome to the forum and thanks for  looking into access. Many screen reader users use NVda, that is none visual desktop access, the open source screen reader for windows, which you can Find here (though most people have better voices than the default ones). As a rough guide, headings can help navigate a page quickly, buttons or links can make it firstly clear what to click on and secondly quicker to navigate, whilst alerts or popups can be useful for displaying information. I did not play Evolve extensively myself, from what I remember the chief troubles I was having were that it wasn't exactly clear which elements were and were not clickable or the costs for each, but I might be wrong since as I said I didn't get too far in the game. As regards your suggestion about keys, most screen readers use letters for navigation, EG h to go to the next heading on a page and shift h to go back,so shift is less useful with letters, likewise capslock is a common modifyer key for screen reader commands, whilst control often serves with space or other keys for general windows navigation, EG ctrl down arrow skips paragraphs, , so alt is probably your best bet as long as it doesn't conflict with browser keys. For most net situations it's usually quicker to use specific page elements to navigate between than try to hit keys.Hth.I'll have a further look when I can and try and make a few more concrete suggestions, though its likely people who have played more extensively might beat me to it.Thanks again for the interest, as I said the game idea looked fascinating to me, especially because of the cellular biology.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

It's actually pretty accessible, the only thing I really notice is prob the info from hover. I have no idea how much of what I need for what.

Garr wrote:It's actually pretty accessible, the only thing I really notice is prob the info from hover. I had a feeling the popovers (tool tips) were a problem.I'm also going to look into adding headers to the game. The weather icons are pictures, they also have text... however it's in a popover. These popovers seem to me to be the largest accessibility problem with the game currently as a lot of information is given out in them. The evolution flowchart was made by a fan, the wiki itself is rather underdeveloped at the moment and has been a back burner project. At some point I plan to build it up but I haven't yet because the game itself is rapidly evolving as it's developed and I didn't want to waste a lot of time making something that would quickly become inaccurate.

Re: evolve, a new incremental game

Okay I've had a look at the game and gone beyond prehistoric (I laughed at the evolved plant species). The good news, is it seems a lot of the access work as regards basic page elements is already there. All of the basic page elements, EG the stuff you can evolve into, the options to gather stone and research etc are actually links, so its easy enough to go between them.Mouseovers  are a bit of an irritation with a screen reader, since what you need to do is use keys to navigate the page, EG arrows or k and shift, use the key combo to bring the mouse to the position of your screen reader on the page EG NVdA key and numbpad / to move the mouse, then go and find the mouseover text itself, since it rarely shows up at the curser position. The good news, is in evolve the mouseover text shows up at a relatively logical poibnt below the links leading to gather/evolve etc, you can even use N with NVdA that is skip past links to find it relatively quickly. The bad news this means in order to find out what a new thing is when you see the new thing, you need to get to it read the mouseover text and then find it again, which can be a miner pest when there is a huge list of links. I would suggest either adding the mouseover text to the link, perhaps as alt text so it is read when you go through the links with a screen reader by default, adding it in an alert, perhaps with an info button, or just writing it onto the page itself under whatever the respective link is in manner of a listt. Headings would be helpful, indeed were it possible to skip straight to your list of stuff to do and the mouseover text with a heading, it would  generally speed matters up. Also, if the event log at the top of the page changes and matters become a bit more of a serious real time crunch, then quick navigation might be very necessary. Thanks again for the interest in access, the game looks like fun and I'll be interested to see where my creatures go.
