Re: Some Swamp beginner questions

Hi Daniel,I totally understand why you are having so much trouble shooting down enemies. Its not the centering thats difficult for me, it is estimating the distance between my character and the enemy. The thing is that increasing the volume of the zombie steps is actually going to complicate things further. The louder the steps, the closer the enemy seems to be. When I leave the setting at 100, the enemy sounds really close when it growls, but the footsteps seem far away. So, I have missed many times when attempting to kill a zombie. In RTR and UltraPower, estimating the distance between a player and an opponent is much simpler, even without using radars to do it.

Re: Some Swamp beginner questions

I never really got Stuck at the beginning, because i listened to some walkthroughs and figured out how to play. Yes i did read the manual, but its not as gooda s the one medcap did for version 3.2 honestly. Look up swamp read me or swamp user guide youll find it. Oh and to find walkthroughs go to the combo box at the bottom of the audiogames main page, and when you are in that list press sw and it will say swamp. Press enter go down to submit button press enter and you will find a description of the game, a download link and some walkthroughs which should help you. I think drews walkthrough was the best, because its funny and more up to date, but it doesnt explain any keys. Look those up, they really help.

Re: Some Swamp beginner questions

Hello Daniel,First and foremost, if you havent read the manual cover to cover, I very strongly recommend doing so. It goes into a lot of detail about what tools are available to you in terms of navigation and even walks you through picking up loot and shooting things. Its probably one of the most detailed manuals for an audio game Ive ever seen, so be sure to give it a read. Anyway, here are my answers to your questions:1. Radars help a lot. You should almost always have one sweeping the area when your indoors in case you miss an opening in a wall you would otherwise have no clue about. Thats really the only way to find your way around, unless you feel like smashing into walls all day. Its quite similar to being blind in real life actually. Yes, there is a graphics mode for people like me so I can actually tell where Im going without having to use radars, but if you cant see anything, youve gotta use your cane to tell whe
re the walls and openings are. And if youre hopelessly lost and you just want to get out, remember that the building helper can get you out of any building anywhere.2. Again, think of it as though youre blind, and you have only your hearing to tell you where enemies are. You cant see, so a sight on a gun isnt going to help you. Thus, theres no targeting tones or anything. Youve just got to listen, aim, and shoot. Turn up the zombie steps if it helps. As for your concern about range, just use the volume of the target, and common sense. For example, an SMG class weapon isnt going to shoot quite as far as a full machine gun, and a machine gun isnt going to shoot as far as a rifle. Finally, about behind and in front, it took me a while to realize the difference as well. The farther away from the center something is, the quieter itll be overall. So if something is centered behind you, itll be a lot quieter and could sneak
up on you without you realizing it. Be careful of that.3. Honestly, I wouldnt worry about quests for the moment. A brand new system was just implemented for quests that was a lot better than the old one, but as of now the only reward for completing one is quest credits which serve no purpose yet. Just give Aprone a month or two to write up some more quests and finish the new system before trying it out again.Sorry for the long post. i hope I answered your questions thoroughly, and dont hesitate to ask more.

Re: Some Swamp beginner questions

Hi Daniel.Welcome to this forum and welcome to Swamp. I hope youll enjoy your time at both places.Regarding the navigation, well, the best advice I can give you is to learn the maps and the buildings in the offline mode if you easily get stuck.Swamp is a very difficult game which takes a while to get used to, but youll get hang of it like all the others in time. It takes time for sure. No, there is not any targeting sounds when aiming with a weapon. This can be tricky at the beginning, but youll get used to that as well. The zombies makes a sound when being hit.Feel free to ask again if you have more questions.

Some Swamp beginner questions

Hi everyone!Although I have quite a lot of experience with several audio games, I am an absolute beginner with Swamp. After reading the README file and playing around with the offline maps for a while, I have now decided to purchase an account and begin playing online. However, I have some beginner questions which I couldnt find out for my self yet. So maybe someone in this forum can help me.1. Orientation: Is there any way to navigate inside of huge buildings? I have found out that I can use the tracking system to locate the entrance/exit of buildings, but finding special rooms inside a building seems to be quite difficult. Do I really have to stumble through buildings helplessly or is there a way to get something like a list of available rooms or an other navigation helper?2. Targeting enemies:In most other audio games I played so far there was some audio feedback indicating whether an enemy is correctly targeted or whether the enemy is within s
triking distance of my currently selected weapon. However, here I havent found anything alike so far. For me it is allways a matter of luck whether I hit a target or miss it. How do I know whether a target is within fireing range of my weapon or not. Moreover, it is not clear to me how I can find out whether the target is in front of me or maybe it is behind me. Is there a way to find this out?3. Completing quests:I have, very unsuccessfully, tried to complete a quest. But since completing quests seems to be a quite time-consuming task, especially for a beginner. Is it possible to log out of the game and to continue a quest later? Even if I am perfectly healthy and quit the game while I am located in the safe zone, the quest is cancelled when I logon for the next time, all work that I have already done is lost. Is it possible to pause a quest or do I have to complete it before I end the game?Thats all for the moment, although I
am sure that I will have to ask many many more questions in the future. I would be very grateful for some helpful hints?Kind regards from Daniel!

Re: Some Swamp beginner questions

1: The radar and the compass might help. Id mostly suggest trailing walls if youre having trouble inside buildings.2: Centering the enemy is the important part, unless you want to maximize accuracy in spite of being stuck with Melee weapons. Precision on range is really hard to estimate. When it comes down to melee, a lot of back/side-stepping helps.Regarding whether theyre behind or in front of you: quickly turning might help. Theyre supposed to be slightly quieter when behind you, but they closer they are to directly ahead / directly behind, the easier to pick out hte direction with slight turns.
