Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? Although it's kinda "yeah no" accesible, I've used Avast! in the pc for a long tyme, but when the accesibility crunged on my nerves I've decided to use Windows Deffender. I use Avast a little time on the pc but more for the movile now which is running Android. On PC I use Windows Deffender. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? It is, and trust me, you do not want to do what I did and end up having to format your computer because you were unable to enter the password you'd set, making it impossible to work with the antivirus at all or even uninstall it. That was what put me off Eset's products for good. There was a time when Smart Security was actually quite accessible. I believe it was version 7. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? I've only used NOD32 with JAWS. Note that NOD32 and Smart Security are different. I haven't used Smart Security. I can't think of any major issues when it comes to accessibility, but I did read something somewhere about password protecting the settings being inaccessible when entering the password. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? Consistently updated backups of most important files and settings are half the battle as well, one on cloud and one physical is probably the best idea, but they need to be scanned before being reimported otherwise you may just end up with the same issue. Also I find a password manager (I use lastpass) to be a helpful way of using strong passwords with at least 11 chars, symbols, uppercase/lowercase letters, and numbers. I also make a backup of my passwords via exporting though, and I have set up the ability to use touch ID with the password manager on my phone if I forget my master password as well. And yeah, adblockers and third party script killers definitely help reduce your attack surface from what I've found. Clearing out temp internet cash now and then helps too, and so do consistent full antivirus scans with a properly updated signature database. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? I agree with the recommendations for Privacy Badger, HTTPS Everywhere, and UBlock Origin. A good paid VPN would be Private Internet Access. I don't use it anymore, but when I did, both the IOS and PC apps were quite accessible. The PC app did have an issue for awhile where you couldn't get into the menu from the system tray, but they've always been really good about fixing accessibility issues when they crop up. At the time, I had written to them about it, but I also switched to using Open VPN with their config files for it, which worked so well that I never did get around to trying the main application to see if that issue had been fixed. I think Private Internet Access is very reasonably priced, too. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? Hi.Thanks for the suggestions so far.Regarding the VPN, well, it's not like I wouldn't pay for a VPN service. If it's decently to very accessible, runs stable and as an added bonus has cross platform support so I can also use it on my smartphone, I am willing to shell out some cash for security. And I suppose this is not only usefull for public networks, i am living in a group home with a couple of other students and I have the nagging feeling that he fishes off the traffic of all the others, including me because he dropped comments like this a few times, so I am extra carefull and a VPN sounds quite good.I will take a look at the other tools mensioned here,.Greetings Moritz. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? For your computer, I'd suggest Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. If you're unsure of a file or website that you're downloading from, I'd also suggest you use virustotal.com. It scans the file or website you feed it, giving you the number of anti-virus services that flag it as malicious. Generally you do get false positives, but if you get a lot of positives you should pay attention to that. For web content blocking and security, I'd suggest HTTPS Everywhere, uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger. I'd also suggest you get a VPN for when you're connected to unprotected Wi-Fi networks. Generally the good ones are paid, but a good free one that works well is ProtonVPN. It's also reasonably accessible on Windows, although it's by no means perfect. HTH. Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
Re: What are you guys using as PC protection these days? Windows Defender for antivirus. You really don't need much more than that if you know what you're doing and don't deliberately visit fishy sites. Adguard for content blocking. I use the standalone Adguard app, not the browser extension, because it works in all browsers, and all other apps as well, so it's a system-wide content blocker. It's paid though, but I got it at a great discount. Before that I used uBlock Origin combined with several other extensions like Privacy Badger, and would still recommend it if you don't want to pay for Adguard. What are you guys using as PC protection these days?
What are you guys using as PC protection these days? Hey everyone.I plan to completely whipe and reinstall my machine and I came to the part about anti virus protection and malware finders, because my current setup fails to locate and delete a darn little web poppup thinggy called base push which comes and interupts my browsing activitys, I was curious what you guys are using for virus and threat protections.I am currently using malware bites and the build in windows defender, which did quite a good service over the last few years, but I'm wondering if there is better software out there. Also, what add, script and popup blockers do you guys use for your daily browsing? Because I really could need one as well. It's not like my system is heavily virus infected, I just want to be sure before something bad goes down. So, any tips and suggestions?Greetings Moritz.
