Re: accessible touch screen cell phone suggestions

The reason blacklisting is not avoidable is it's implemented on the network's end, there's a list of phone IDs which all the carriers will block. This is something I've only heard about in relation to making stolen phones unusable, but it doesn't surprise me sadly that carriers would use it this way harsh as it seems. I'm just relieved Apple haven't offered them the ability to remotely brick the phone, which I imagine the carriers would be all over if they could get it.

Re: accessible touch screen cell phone suggestions

Yo smoothgunner,If you are planning to go for an android phone, I would recommend Samsung. I myself have a Samsung galaxy s3 (android version 4.4.2) and is a very good phone. It has a lot of features, like NFC, S voice, a built-in text-to-speech, a great sound player which is very accessible and many many others. What I like so much about these phones is that they are not so expensive, and the battery life lasts for long. I never charge my phone once a day, normally if I play all the time it won’t promise a two-day charge, but if I don’t use it so much the battery will last two days for sure. At the moment we are speeking, as this phone is going out of date, I would recommend a Samsung galaxy s5, certainly if you are going to use it in daily baces, but if you want to use android for testing purposes, then go for a cheaper phone. The home screen is very accessible in Samsung. I found it really great and I think I wouldn’t use any other android device apart from Samsung. Also my suggestion, Samsung galaxy s5 has very great specifications, which let you receive new updates in the future. So far, if you buy a Samsung galaxy s5 it will come with android version 4.4.2, but you can upgrade to android 5.0 Lollipop which is believed to have a lot of improvements.

Re: accessible touch screen cell phone suggestions

I'd have been able too previously, but Motorola has been the cheapest actually accessible Android phone for a while now, allot of that is because most phones under 100 bucks have custom,, mostly proprietary overlays over the stock Google experience, Moto E 2015 is very new, insuring updates for at least 2 years, and it's running Lollipop which is the newest version, and has several talkback improvements. If you go for an older, cheaper phone, maybe Moto G 2014, 90 to 100 bucks, or a used phone, you'll not get as many talkback improvements by default, and it's not for sure that you can update to Lollipop out of contract on those, plus, updates will have far less support time, though the Moto G is only 8 months or so old, so if you can find one used, that may be good.Otherwise, I'd just ditch the touchscreen idea and get a still usable, but far more simple flip phone.

Re: accessible touch screen cell phone suggestions

thx to you both for the suggestionsand yes defender u are correct I fell behind on my bill broke my contract basically then when I tried to throw a prepayed plan on my phone from another company it was a no go they informed me about this black list that I never knew anything about. I have tried to find ways around it with chips unlocking the whole nine but nope no way around it inside of the USI know a pretty good phone is going to cost me around 150 I was really trying to avoid spending that much, I just really wanted a touch screen phone to make calls send pics and text messages nothing more, I was going to use my iphone for everything else because I hate jelly and kitkat voice and just the entire interface for droid sucks, but I can deal with it for minor things, so even though I am going to check out the sites you provided defender can u suggest any cheap yet good phones within the 100dollar range and under

His problem is probably either that the  contract with his service provider ran out, was canceled do to a breach of agreement, or he couldn't pay it any more, that he has no Sim card, or that it's been disabled for security reasons which can happen sometimes through error.

Re: accessible touch screen cell phone suggestions

On Android, it's called talkback, also, good sites, androidaccess.net inclusiveandroid.com and the eyes free mailing list and google group as well as the that android show podcast.Flagship phones from Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC, and Motorola are often quite accessible, if your looking for cheap, try the Moto E 2015 which is coming out in North America quite soon, and for other phones it's easy to ask about on the forums on those sites, but you'll want at least 4.4 Kitkat or preferably 5.0 Lollipop, the newest phone you can get, probably something above 150 dollars with the Moto E 2015 and Moto G 2014 being the baseline, and a compass for propper GPS, also, phone arena is a good place to find specs and ratings.

Re: accessible touch screen cell phone suggestions

Hi Smoothgunner.Well I don't exactly understand what your problem with your iPhone is but you can get a nice new iPhone with voiceover that will work pretty well. You can also get an android device which has talkback and is basically the same as voiceover. Then there's samsung's phones I don't really know anything about them other then that they accessibility features.Hth.
