Re: is kivi accessible?
Re: is kivi accessible? To be honest I somehow gave up on new GUI libraries being accessible.I hope I'll be proven wrong, but I doubt we'll get to see a library which uses native controls and is accessible anytime soon. Re: is kivi accessible?
Re: is kivi accessible? @5Ah, I see what you're saying.Time will tell I guess. Certainly on Android, Flutter is great. Web too, although there's problems, and it's still in beta. None of the desktop front ends are out of alpha yet. Re: is kivi accessible?
Re: is kivi accessible? @4I'm not entirely sure what Flutter uses as the backend, but it's not native controls, at least on the phones. The web version is probably actually HTML though. If you're wondering why I was skeptical of the accessibility the first time someone around here (I think you) started promoting it, that's why.95% of modern GUI libraries do this. It's annoying, and quickly becoming an actual problem for us. I can't think of a library in at least the last 5 years that opted to use native controls and got popular. To sighted people, looking the same on all devices is now almost the most important thing about this, so we get left by the wayside. And implementing accessibility needs C/C++ for all the desktop platforms effectively, and you have to write 5 mostly unique versions of the code, one per platform. Re: is kivi accessible? @3Wow, didn't realise Flutter was just GL with accessibility support on top. Not really sure what else I expected mind you. Re: is kivi accessible?
Re: is kivi accessible? If you mean Kivy, then at last check no. Also, please can we all at least check the spelling of libraries that we're going to talk about? I try to be understanding that this is a site of blind people and that spelling apparently comes last on the list of priorities, but seriously. I'm seeing this more and more lately. In any case, they're a very long way from having a concept of keyboard focus as far as I know, and until they have a concept of keyboard focus, absolutely everything else you might do in terms of accessibility is entirely blocked. Once they do have it, they'll have to find one of the incredibly small number of people who knows how to do this kind of thing, and they'll probably also have to figure out how to implement it in C/C++ which I don't believe they're prepared for. You're in Python. Use wx. Call it a day. In general, any library that's talking about how it doesn't use native controls and draws all the stuff with OpenGL or whatever isn't going to be accessible. I'm aware of literally one exception to that rule, flutter, and it's literally got the backing of Google. Re: is kivi accessible?
Re: is kivi accessible? That... is an excellent question. I've seen some chatter about it on [reddit] and [stack overflow], but those are 4-5 years ago. There seems to be a more active and current discussion on github amongst developers on the subject though, some of the latest updates being October 16th, [here], [here], and [here]. In other words, its appears there's some development but i'm unsure how far along they are at the moment.
