Very simple. Transporter - Arcam FMJ A32 amplifier - Monitor Audio GS-20 speakers. Yet again a total and utter misunderstanding of how things actually work. Don't worry though, prominent hifi reviewers are often equally confused. The wired or wireless TCPIP (network) connection is TOTALLY transparent to the SB3. The SB3 _asks_ for data and buffers lots of it and plays it back AT ITS OWN CLOCK'S SPEED. I believe it is exactly this lack of understanding of the massive benefits of _pulling_ the data from a TCPIP network that keep making reviwers have silly preconceptions. -- P Floding No, I didn't ABX it. Having worked in the RF/microwave area for many years, I'm having difficulty believing that this guy is actually an RF engineer. That forum is a major source of misinformation IMO. For example, I noticed in response to your question Interconnects essentials - question for objectivists over there, the moderator responded, including in part some information about EM simulators and their supposed capabilities. The paragraph beginning However, you have to realize, that software programs for this kind of thing... is almost entirely wrong. I worked for about 6 years on RF/microwave circuit simulation software. This was not with the guts of the internal simulation code (that was restricted to Ph.D types) but with code that interfaces to it. This was both circuit-level and EM simulation (i.e. shapes). The code was tested against actual customer-provided measurements of real circuits at frequencies up to 40 GHz (thats gigahertz or 10^9 Hertz). In fact, one of the applications of this type of software is for customers to design various types of filters (low pass, bandpass, etc) that operate up into the microwave frequency range. The elements of these filters are not discrete inductors or capacitors at all, but rather consist only of traces on the circuit board (or integrated circuit or ceramic substrate) that are judiciously designed. His statement that the software doesn't cover the RF spectrum that's in common use is ludicrous and utterly wrong. Additionally, M-Audio USB devices designed to function without installing a driver (aka class compliant devices) are also not currently supported under WMCE. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter - 1st Impressions Break-In
Hi all Slim Fans. I just got a Transporter this week at the Open House and have been putting it through its paces. First impressions: better than expected on playing internet radio, especially classical (KDFC) - which is a pain to listen to on FM due to the static. It is amazingly easy to set-up and intuitive to use both the main unit and the remote. I have been playing some FLAC files that I saved using EAC. The sound so far is quiet, a bit on the thin/cool side, with instruments being well delineated. Strangely with classical so far it feels a bit congested in terms of soundstaging but no so with rock/pop. Later this week, I will check out its DAC on CDs. For other transporter owners - how long did it take, if at all, for the transporter to break-in. Any similar findings? Does the sound get warmer and more palpable? I am running the transporter through a Qinpu integrated to Dali Helicon 400's using JPS wire. Thanks in advance and thank you all for your prior posts that helped make my decision to purchase the transporter easier. -- ImagineTT ImagineTT's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10852 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33887 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
