It's pretty tough to tell the difference between 320 MP3 and uncompressed on any gear. In my experience being able to do so has much more to do with knowing what MP3 compression artifacts sound like and choosing passages the encoder has difficulty with than anything else. But why would you want to do that anyway? Lossless is a much better choice for many reasons. For example, you might want transcode down to a smaller size for use with a portable player. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] no sound from Transporter
UGH. Got my new TP yesterday. Removed my cdp, which had been working fine, and hooked the TP up to my mono power amps' unbalanced inputs (no pre-amp used) w/RCA ics into the TPs unbalanced analog outputs(will switch to balanced soon). Setup went smoothly. I have a Squeezebox already and know my way around SD players, SS, and my network. SB3 and network work perfectly, as does/did my stereo. The TP streams/plays properly. I select music and the VU meters move, remaining time changes, and songs change. However, no sound comes out of the speakers. I have tried everything I could think of to get the thing to play music. I checked the connections on my ics both to the amps and the TP, I turned everything on and off, I checked the TP settings in SS, I called a techie friend who owns a TP, I adjusted the volume, etc. I even plugged a pre-amp back into the system to see if that was the issue. Still, no sound. The box appears to be functional, so I am assuming I just have a setting wrong somewhere. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions about resolving this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks much. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42659 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Speaker Trouble--Spica TC-50s
Yes, Gordon sorry, so aside from having to modify the cabinet a bit, it sounds like you were happy using the Madisound tweeter with the TC-50is - this is good to know! Spica used a specific model of tweeter used in the 50 and a different on the 50i. The one Madisound sells isn't one of those, and the same tweeter presumably wouldn't work well both places. Spica changed tweeter models because production issues with the woofer used in the 50, made them move to a new model, used in what was dubbed as the 50i (BTW - TC-50is are not marked as such, you can only tell by the square tweeter hole, although the change took place about s/n 7500) Now to shift gears a bit, Spica did closely match components, they measured each cap, resistor, etc and the woofers response curves were individually characterized (see service codes) make certain that the left and right were matched. However, this was not true for the tweeters. Tweeters had enough uniformity that individual matching wasn't necessary within a given model. please reference: Spica Drivers: http://spicaspeakers.com/repair/spica-drivers.php Service Codes: http://spicaspeakers.com/repair/spica-service-codes.php -- dadster www.spicaspeakers.com dadster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42522 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

The shift from 50 to 50i was about s/n 7500. With 13,000 series numbers you definately have 50i's.
