Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter of SB3
If your Theta has a clock out, you can use the clock in of the Transporter; this should virtually eliminate jitter, and give the best results. If there is no clock out, then I would expect the Transporter to be slightly better than the SB3 but the difference may be minimal or even unnoticeable. The SB3 is a pretty good transport. You may also consider a modded SB3 such as the SB+, which has a digital-only version for £800 - better value in the UK than the US! -- adamslim Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others SB+, EAR V20, Living Voice OBX-R2s plus some other stuff SB3, Charlize, Harbeth HL-P3ES adamslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7355 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45561 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Linn Records Studio Masters on Tp SB3
Well, just downloaded and played my first Linn recording - La Guitarra Española - The Music of Santiago de Murcia - William Carter Default file was a 24/88 and I've loaded this, and a downsampled 24/44 (using Audacity 1.3) onto my NAS. Played both without problem over my SB3 and I'm struggling to find much difference. If anything, the 88 file seems slightly better with low level ambience (eg the guitar body resonances seem to carry on for longer) and the 44 file a tad more dynamic. That said the recording is first rate, albeit there is noticeable low frequency (tape ?) / microphone hiss and very low frequency rumble / stage echoes to my mind (passing traffic noise intruding ?). Now, if only Linn carried a greater range of music ! This guitar set is nice but doesn't really set my world on fire. -- liffy99 liffy99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7832 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32951 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Yes these types of issue are audible (I would argue the difference between red book and hi rez isn't). You can hear exactly this kind of thing with well-recorded red book. liffy99;285625 Wrote: Now, if only Linn carried a greater range of music ! Hey red book is here, it is widely accepted, it is DRM-free, it is flexible, and no-one...NO-ONE...has proved it's audibly worse than hi rez. Relax and enjoy! I went to the Park Inn Hi-Fi Show in London yesterday. My friend and I settled in two rooms which we agreed were best-at-show. Most relaxing, non-irritating, don't-want-to-analyse-it sound. One room was the Aurousal single-driver stand-mounter and another the Phasesonics array-driver two-box floorstander. Both of these represent British 'cottage industry' hi-fi. But we spent the last hour in these two rooms chatting with the manufacturers...because everywhere else sounds were to be heard that were impressive but ultimately unenjoyable. These two systems had their limitations but ultimately we just enjoyed being there. The single-driver stand-mounters (Aurausal A1 Mk2) in particular were nice. They've changed my outlook somewhat on single-driver speakers. They would make a great loudspeaker for a small second system. My point: these guys were using a -cheapo DVD player to play CDs-, and a very old budget Cambridge Audio amp. Amazing. Beat the hell out of other exhibitors with multi-k fancy source for listenability and non-fatigue: the supposed 'intangible' benefits of hi rez. YMMV etc. :) Darren -- darrenyeats SB3 / Inguz - Krell KAV-300i (pre bypass) - PMC AB-1 Dell laptop - JVC UX-C30 mini system darrenyeats's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10799 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32951 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter of SB3
You will get no diff tween the Sb and the transporter re the spdif out , I have both and have not heard any diff tween the 2. I tried both directly to my Meridian DSP speakers , via a Z-sys RDP-1, Via a TACT 2.0 and via a meridian 518, on most of these I can do all sort of things like resample, dither and some are de-jittering devices , nothing made a difference between the SB and TP I bought a transporter cos I wanted it's dac for a headphone system and a set of ATC actives used ina different location, and to be honest, I'm not that impressed by its sound using it as a total front end. -- Rodney_Gold Sb3/Z-sys RDP1/meridian DSP5500's TP/X-cans v3/Senns 650's TP/TACT 2.0/SCM 50a's TP/Meridian DSP5000's The nicest thing about smacking your head against the wall is...the feeling you get when you stop Rodney_Gold's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14618 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45561 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] What is connected to your Transporter?
Mr. Bill. Thanks. I did not own the stock, but I did some extensive listening to the stock version before I sprung for the mod. Both are teriffic, but I really like the warm tube sound of the Mod. I am pretty happy running the TP directly into the monos. It definitely sounds better than it did with my old integrated as the pre (pre and power separated). I cannot imagine a pre adding much as it really sounds great as is. The only drwback is the volume; the lowest volume setting is way too loud. I have Endler attenuators on order, but have not received them yet. -- Shredder Shredder's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11380 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33868 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

I think this says it all At no time will I attempt to listen to the results. Dan (jhm731) will do that, once the unit is returned to him. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Rotel RX-1052 SBD
Hi, I'm thinking about getting a Duet to add into my system. I currently have a Rotel RX-1052 and I use an airport express to stream audio. Looking for any folks that have experience with the Rotel RX-1052 and SBD in comparison to Airport Express. Also looking for any recommendations on connecting the SBD into the Rotel - cabling and input to use. Thanks in advance!
