Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Anyone tried a 96k 24 bit download
I have found and installed SOX on my LinkStation Pro. Now, any 24-bit 96KHz file plays for a few seconds, then it stops while the SB3 says rebuffering for a few seconds, then play resumes for a few seconds, then it stops and rebuffers some more, etc. Does this mean that LinkStation doesn't have enough horsepower for SOX to downres the files, or do I need to configure something else? -- TiredLegs TiredLegs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63908 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

That sounds exactly what the problem is. How about configuring the down sampling to only use WAV and not transcoding to FLAC as well? In my File Format Conversion Setup, the only settings that show the ability to select SOX are all for Ogg Vorbis files. For FLAC file format, I have: FLAC-FLAC-Native FLAC-MP3-Disabled FLAC-WAV-FLAC In the last of those, there isn't an option for FLAC-WAV-WAV. If I select FLAC-WAV-Disabled, nothing changes from what I was experiencing before. For WAV file format, I have: WAV-FLAC-FLAC WAV-MP3-Disabled WAV-WAV-Native Maybe I'm misunderstanding how these settings are supposed to work. Is there a setting somewhere else specifically for the SOX downsampling? -- TiredLegs TiredLegs's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63908 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I *think* you set FLAC - FLAC - Disabled and FLAC - WAV - FLAC Which means the built in (as in built into the SB) FLAC decoder is disabled, but for streaming FLAC files as WAV will use the FLAC decoder on your PC. -- funkstar my collection: *1*x boom *2*x controller, *1*x receiver *2*x sb3 (sliver/black, *1*x sb2 wired (silver), *1*x sb (black) *1*x slimp3 (with rear shield) interested in any others if you have them! funkstar's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63908 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Affordable PSU Upgrades for Classic
Hi all, I'd like to see if a power supply update makes an audible difference on my SB v3, but I don't want to pay $200 to experiment. It seems that the Elpac model that is plug and play with the SB is no longer made. If anyone has links to an alternative, they would be appreciated. Thanks. -- ismarketing ismarketing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30585 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of Squeezebox. There are tons of threads on this subject so do a quick forum search. In my opinion and from testing, its basically a waste of time. One of two things, either save up for a $500 plus DAC or buy a Transporter. Please see the following Threads: 'Read whole Thread, pay attention to Post #7' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63349) ' Another one' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50155highlight=power+supplypage=2) Basically, there are internal switchers after the main DC input so upgrading or going to a linear power supply is a waste of time and money. The SB3 is already a good NMP and to make improvements worth paying for takes the money that makes a Transporter or a nice DAC the logical route to follow. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, Vandersteen Quatro, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: SB3, GFR-700HD, Thiel 2.3, Second Boom Home Office: SB3, NAD C370, two VSM-1 Home Gym: SB3, Parasound Vamp v.3, Thiel PowerPoint 1.2 House Portable: SB3, Audioengine A5 Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Expedition: SB3, ToughBook iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] New System, Transporter Final Piece?
I received the Transporter last week and a free controller (pretty cool) and got it hooked up on Saturday. After playing CD's for two weeks, I had forgotten about the ease of use and utility of a squeezebox product. So nice to just scroll through and play a wide variety of songs. On the other side, I am not sure that I have gained much on the sonic side. I was using a Sony BDP-S550 with digital out to a loaner Rotel 1056 receiver, so using the Rotel as a DAC. With the Transporter, I was using analog out through the Rotel, so using the Transporter DAC. Now, I don't have perfect hearing, but I am able to hear some fairly minor differences in audio quality but I didn't get much sense of improvement. Maybe a little better soundstage but I also think some of the sound, especially vocals, were slightly more harsh. It's a stretch but maybe it's less muddy and I am hearing some things that I wasn't hearing before. No real question, just commenting. I haven't done extensive AB comparisons, but it doesn't seem like a sonic improvement upgrade. -- parkmad parkmad's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63465 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] beginner audiophile setup?
Definitely check out audiogon.com if you havent already. One thing you will soon learn about the world of hifi is that people like to upgrade. That means plenty of high quality, lightly used gear for sale. If I were you I'd be looking at a used integrated amp, like the Arcam A65. I think you can pick one up right now for 300-350 USD... Plenty of power for a bedroom system, and a compact, simple design (without a lot of blinking lights and shit to distract you while you're trying to listen to Yanni and do romance). As for speakers, I agree that you will definitely need to go to your local shop and audition... but I think you would be able to find something from BW or Focal in your price range that would sound great with an amp like the Arcam. In six months or a year, when you're ready to spend some more dough on your setup, definitely get that DAC. I noticed a pretty substantial improvement when I got mine, which was a 400 USD Cambridge Audio DACMagic. Good luck.. you're going to have a pretty sweet little system. -- austinmilbarge austinmilbarge's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30092 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63242 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] beginner audiophile setup?
For integrated amps, you might also consider the Rotel RA-04 or the Marantz PM6002. Probably tricky to find these used right now, but the new prices are not terrible. -- austinmilbarge austinmilbarge's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30092 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63242 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
