Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Inguz + DRC input signal too short

2010-01-17 Thread htrd

Try recording another sweep. I'm not sure why, but I do find that drc
calculates wrong results for approximately 10% of sweeps. Then an
'identical' sweep recorded a minute later will be fine.

I now always preview my new filters using REW before packing the
microphone away.

The inguz measurement instructions used to recommend trimming the sweep
wav file, but it is easy to trim too much. Leave at least five seconds
of recorded silence before and after the sweep; longer wont hurt.

Can you post audacity screenshots of your sweep recording? It should
look like http://www.tarind.com/brutefir_drc.html

That's remarkably brazen...
Ayre uses the digital portion of the same Oppo player in their DX-5
Blu Ray player, but at least they take it out of the case, and use their
own power supply and DAC board.

At least they are trying.

As they said in the review, its not unusual to base a high end product
on more prosaic stuff. But usually they at least change a cap or two to
improve it, rather than just using it lock stock and barrel.

I wonder of the THX certification is always that lame. It would not
surprise me that they accept the fee and the vendor's claims, since
testing is actually work.

I'm not sure if his gear is DIY or just old. I've been looking for a
mini-Spot Welder like the one he uses but the price on new one's are
well out of my reach for the amount I'd use it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Inguz + DRC input signal too short

2010-01-17 Thread Curt962

Well...if I could manage to get the screenshots capturedI'd send
them.

In the interimsuffice to say they look quite normal.

I made a few new sweeps this morning leaving 6-7 seconds of silence at
the start/end of them.no help.I am STILL seeing the input
signal too short

Just for fun, I looked at the test convolution files on REW. I
don't know exactly what those are...but they look like a normal freq
response measurement. I don't know how to look at the actual filters
that have been generated by DRC. When I listen to them, they sound like
an impulse noise.

I hope I can get to the bottom of this. It's driving me insane.

Curt

Ooops! Clearly a slip of the tongue. I shall proceed to immediately
announce on all relevant forums that I am presently a member of, or in
any way eligible for membership to, that I positively know that Sean
Adams is working on a tubed output stage for the Transporter expected to
launch in 2012 using tubes that are hand-made by Mr. Adams personally
using nothing but an exclusive set of hand-moulded precision tools in a
top-secret laboratory set up in the former Slimdevices headquarters in
Moutain View, California. Rumours has it that it is called the
Transporter 2.
