Yes?
Although I see it did something..

I uploaded these two samples here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/v9fbie

How can I compare these? Convert the 16bit file in Audacity to 24bit?
Use r8brain instead?
What is the best?

Transporter for 999 in the UK direct from Logitech

2010-08-04 Thread Nomis

Hi,

For info, the Transporter is currently on offer in the UK for £999
through the Logitech website (www.logitech.co.uk). Just use offer code
WVOH999 and they take £800 from the £1799 list price. Shipping is free.
Mine arrived yesterday :-)

Apparently the offer is good to 23 August 2010, or while stocks last.

Enjoy.

I don't know what operating system you are using, but if Windows, I'd
use Audacity to change the 16 bit version to 24 bit first BUT:
Remember that the way Diffmaker works is by mathematically comparing
the sample values... so a 16-bit and a 24-bit file are completely
different as far as diffmaker is concerned.

Even if you change the 16 bit file to 24 bit (which simply adds 8 zero
bits) the files are still completely different as far as diffmaker is
concerned.

What are you trying to detect in the comparison? - Diffmaker is
designed to compare things that are supposed to be similar, not things
that are supposed to be very different.

Hey Chris,

Cat6a turned up, quite a bit thicker that cat5..

I run my Touch from an access point in the listening room which is
connected by 15m of cat5 to my server in the Study.
So the cat6a cable sits between the router and the Touch.*

*this is how the Audiophile mods suggest you have your Touch set up
for best effect, using unscreened cat6a.

Does it make a difference...?

Uhm, as I cant measure it I'm not putting my neck on the line
here...know what I mean?
But If your Touch is set up like mine, can I sugget you do what I did
and fit some UTP Cat6a between router and Touch.
Thats all I'm saying.

:)

Not at all, it's copy-and-pasted from a completely unrelated

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Touch: Upsampling with sox?

2010-08-04 Thread soundcheck

I am a bit confused. Are you saying your line works?

Lookup the man pages for sox 14.3.0. The effects, such as rate are
last.

Quote man pages:

--
Examples:
sox input.wav -b 16 output.wav rate -s -a 44100 dither
-s
-

output.wav would have to be replaced with a hyphen.

Cheers

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Touch: Upsampling with sox?

I suspect that the Touch CPU won't have enough power to upsample when it
is running the TinySB server.

Are you sure it didn't work (i.e. check the log with player.source set
to DEBUG) or is it possible the CPU couldn't generate a stream fast
enough to play ?

You should read this thread

I misunderstood I thought your were using Touch to resample.

To use a SBS server - then look at this thread.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69454

To debug use WebUI Setting/Advanced/Loggin and set player.source to
DEBUG and the click apply.

The main problem I have is that the setup is just a little too laid
back and lifeless, even more so when not on loud. There's no real
impact there. Also (obviously really) there is a bit of bass pwer and
definition lacking and instruments that are not at the forefront of the
 mix are a bit lost.

This description brings several things to mind in terms of problem
solving.

1. Cables - you dont need to spend a lot - you need heavy gauge SOLID
CORE OFC for the speakers, try as much silver as you can afford on the
interconnects.
2. If you are going wireless to the squeezebox, try wired (ethernet).
3. I would be willing to bet that another factor is jitter (timing). If
you are using SPDIF (coax) get a good digital cable. Again - doesnt
have to be expensive, but from a good cable manufacturer (ex. The Cable
Company).
4. Take a look at your connectors. I personally ditch the speaker and
amp connectors and go with direct wire to wire. I even replaced the
speaker jumpers in my amp with pure silver (about $5 worth). Cheap and
very effective. I cant say enough about hacking cheap crap wires out of
your system. You can buy great pure silver solid core wire at Homegrown
Audio.

I'm not saying you will transform your frog into a prince! It might not
make a ton of difference in a low resolving system, but its fun to hack
around, and if you screw something up you aren't out a ton of money!

Enjoy - dont be afraid!

As you will see - I'm not as crazy as you may think!

Ok - so I got their digital cable - one the more affordable JPS
offerings. I did notice some improvement in focus and lack of what I
would say is background to the music. Not huge. But significant. I
still think it was a good investment in sound. I will say that the
Hi-Fi Tuning fuse I put in the Transporter had a much bigger bang for
the buck at $30 a pop.

The thing about a power cable is - you buy it once. Thats it. I dont
second guess the cable stuff. I still have the same old Audioquest
Granite speaker cables and I will never replace them. Still have the
same old Silver Audio interconnect. Not because they are that
fantastic. I just don't believe in focusing on cable unless you are
really certifiably crazy with a lot of dough! So - I'm not really THAT
crazy. I also dont have a lot of dough!

I have been experimenting with dbpoweramp converting CD's to 24/96. As I
have discussed in other posts, I really like the sound of the upsampled
16/44.8 to 24/96 through the Transporter! I mean, I'm really happy! I
can even tell the difference in sound from other rooms in the house. It
comes close to that live sound. Especially in the bass.

Count me as a believer!
