Sadly there is a problem facing many older cdp's the lack of replacement mechanics ? as you have a TP it has digital inputs , so arent there any dvd player around with digital output for example. Or was it the sound of the 506 your wife wanted ? The current Meridian G06 and G08 models then ? But the new deign does not match that good aesthetically with the old. Sounds like you need a new wife that uses digital files not CDs. All joking aside, have you called any local HiFi shops to see if they can clean/repair the CDP? If it is not a direct drive model, the belt probably needs replaced also if it needs a internal cleaning that badly IE get the unit tuned up. I would also check the Internet to see if anybody was doing mods on your model as they might be a good source for getting repairs or maintenance done. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Wood Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1, Vandersteen V2W Subwoofer Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Squeezebox BOOM Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82371 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Hi Michael and Robin, I just bought a new DEQ2496. I will use it with my Modified Sonos (I like the Sonos because of the excelent controller and stable wireless connection). I use Inguz with the SB3, but I aggre the inteface is no so good. My view was that Inguz would take time and some messing around to set up & get workng, which is fine if you have the time to do that. I don't, so I picked up a s/h DEQ which I had plugged in and operational within 10 minutes. I'm currently using homemade AES cables (XLR plugs) and it works just fine, although I have a couple of Toslink cables on order to see if I can hear any difference. My suggestion would be to try and pick up a s/h DEQ and give it a go. You can always sell it on if it's not for you. R. -- "Feed that ego and you starve the soul" - Colonel J.D. Hi Michael, Here a newbie question, Can I use the AES in/out with the sp-dif connections of my Sonos/Dacmagic (with special cables/adapters)? Or I am limited to the optical connections? Do you think the Deq2496 is a better option than Inguz? It's interesting to learn that you had to recalibrate your RC. That seems like some objective "proof" for that tweak. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Meridian CD player
Hi All, I know I shouldn't really ask this question here but the wealth of knowledge here is the best I've come across - My trusty 506 CD Player has starting behaving badly - sometimes it wont play at all, other times it jumps or sticks - basically it is unusable - Meridian can't help as the player is now obsolete and they don't have any parts, So , can anyone recommend a lens cleaner that they have used ? - I don't want to ruin it by using a crap one - any other recommendations welcome - again apologies for posting here but I can't think of anywhere else that I trust. I use my TP as the main music source but my wife still prefers to use CD's. -- pkfox When the going gets weird - the weird turn pro. The answer to your question depends a lot on how your DAC handles less than perfect digital (s/pdif or toslink) signals. On paper the Touch digital output is better than that of the SBR. Whether or not that translates into a significant audible benefit to you depends on the DAC, specifically: how well does it tolerate "less than ideal" signals. This is all highly system and environment specific and even the same equipment in different houses may behave differently because of wiring etc. It is very hard to be categoric on this.
