Focal, so that is where I am aiming.

It's good to hear some real world experience from other users regarding
this brand. Helps make my decision a bit more confidently.

Why don´t you just install Inguz Eq and use it to balance the sound. My
Dali Mentor speakers sounded a little bright in the 5-9khz range. I
tried a few amps and dac´s, none came close to Inguz for improving the
sound. Also did wonders integrating them with my sub-woofer and getting
rid of a +8 db bump in the 50-60 hz range

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Dali Speakers

2011-04-01 Thread Eriko

I have the Mentor 2. Before that I had the Ikon 6. Love them, maybe a
little on the bright side, but use the Iguz eq plugin to reduce the
3.500-10.000 frequency range, along with the bass management. You don´t
have to have the hearing of a 16 year old, to hear the ribbon tweeter.
I´m 50, took the tweeter unit out of the cabinet and only unplugged the
dome tweeter. I could easily hear sound coming from the ribbon tweeter,
even harmonics from a female singers. Also, the ribbon provides more
dispersions and a larger sweet spot.

But with the wall-mount, you will need a sub-woofer. I use the Rel T
line. They´re compact, fast and musical

If ones system is to bright, this can be tamed just by choosing the proper ICs
and speaker cable to even out the effect.

[/QUOTE Wrote:

If one wants to tame, brighten, get fuller sound, get rid of bass bumps
or increase etc etc...you simply use the Inguz Eq plug-in and a RS sound
level meter. No wire can get the increase/decrease in the amount and the
preferred frequency range like Inguz. If someone already has a
transparent system, Inguz Eq will get you the sound you´re looking for,
all for free. You can even use different presets for those glaring
 compressed albums.

I don´t understand that statement and don´t know what one has to do
with the other. IMO, no cable that fulfills general requirements for
its purpose, can be the weakest link. I did state, given that one has a
transparent system (meaning having all the information there), a DSP
(other than having a special acoustic-room built specifically for your
needs) is the only logical thing to use for tweaking the sound for
one´s preference/needs. NOT wire

Doesn´t look like you´re reading carefully enough what I´m saying or
responding too.

My first reply, was to the statement using a cable to tame a bright
system., which has indeed to do with tonal balance. I also said, given
a cable that meets all general requirements for its purpose. This would
indeed mean it´s not losing information Also, using DSP, I actually
have gained information I hadn´t noticed before. Getting rid of bloomy
or bass bumps, cutting some of the highs in the 3500-10.000hz, I heard
nuances that had been masked because of uneven tonal balance, in
addition to a much better tonal balance. Boosting 100-200hz which were
according to the sound meter, too low, I also got more drive.

Looks like Inguz isn´t properly installed to me. If you paste the
following in Windows search by clicking on start for XP or the logo
at the bottom left for Vista):

For XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\InguzEQ

Vista: C:\ProgramData\InguzEQ\

You should get the Settings folder, log.txt and other forlders

I´m not Robin Bowes, but IMO, the SB3 internal dac with Inguz EQ
(free), beats any dac regardless of price. The subtle differences
between modern dacs and/or transports are irrelevant in comparison to
getting the 20-200 hz frequencies to only vary -+ 2db and cutting the
3khz-10khz by 2.5 db.

That´s not my setup btw. I use Touch into the CA 840C Dac with Inguz as

The Naim DAC is probably the most expensive one I´ve hooked up to my

suggestion? Which cheap products do you think give high-end sound?
Which is, using the SB internal DAC with Inguz and using a Radio Shack
Sound Level Meter to calibrate 20-200 frequencies and if needed, adjust
higher freq. sounded much better than the Naim without Inguz eq. Thus, a
cheap product with a high-end sound.

Of course, Inguz will improve the sound from any DAC and the rest of
the stereo system. It´s totally transparent and will correct and
improve what no DAC or amp can possibly do. Second to speakers, I
consider the Inguz plugin to be the most valuable contributor to the
fantastic sound I enjoy. And it is FREE!

[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Does gain value in Inguz effect bits the same as using digital volume?

2010-06-02 Thread Eriko

Hello, been reading these forums for a long time and really appreciate
all the valuable info to be found. So thanks to all the helpful regular
posters.

Can anyone inform me if the default gain value in Inguz which is
-16db effects the bits in the same way as when the digital volume is
used. And if so, if decreasing the digital volume say -20 db, is the
end result similar to decrease the digital volume by -36 db when not
using Inguz?

Thanks kindly,
Erik
