When I built my speakers I deliberately built the passive crossovers in separate enclosures underneath the speaker boxes, and routed the cables from the drive units to a multi-plug on the back of the speaker, with a view to one day converting them to active. I'm now tempted to replace those passive crossovers with separate amplifiers. Hypex offer some interesting plate amps for this type of application (eg http://www.hypex.nl/product/2012-11-23-13-44-01/2012-11-23-13-46-04/as2-100.html), with options for USB and SPDIF inputs. My power amp is built from Hypex Class D modules, and I'm very pleased with their products, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of similar products that I should be looking at. I'd also like it to default to Volume instead of selection. That's what my family members expect it to do. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] What a difference a DAC makes...
I recently added a Citypulse DA2.03e II to my main system. I was expecting some level improvement, but wow, I am blown away. There is a major improvement in definition and strength of the bass, and an significant improvement in overall clarity. Before adding the DAC, my system consisted of: SB3 (digital out) to DEQ2496 (analog out) to Music Angel 845 tube amp (modified). Present configuration: SB3 (digital out) to DEQ2496 (digital out) to Citypulse DAC to MA 845. I'm using the DEQ2496 for room correction and to help me tune my DIY speakers. I originally found the analog output of the DEQ2496 to be at least as good as the SB3's analog output. Speakers consist of 8 full range Fostex 206ESR's in BIB's (horns that load into the ceiling - they are huge!). I really dig these speakers, they fill the whole house with great sound, and they produce plenty deep clean bass. I went with the Citypulse because I want a remote volume control and because of its excellent reputation. -- boudy boudy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9829 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43046 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

... since I have the DEQ2496 digital equalizer in the path. I'm already using a linear supply. I modify tube amps and through hole circuits all the time, but modifying the SB3 looks daunting due to those tiny SMD leads. I'll have to practice first on a junk board. -- boudy Main system: SB3 - DEQ2496 - Citypulse 2.03 - MA 845 - DIY 206ESR BIB Office system: SB3 - DCX2496 - Attenuator - DIY 2 way Open Baffle boudy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9829 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43046 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
