[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Lexicon Charges $3500 For a Repackaged $500 Oppo Blu-ray Player
This is a very, very bad thing Lexicon did. And thanks to the super sleuths at Audioholics, they got very, very caught. The Lexicon BD-30 is a $3500 (!!!), THX-Certified Blu-ray player. Unfortunately, aside from some slight re-branding, it's also a $500 Oppo BDP-83, chassis and all. http://gizmodo.com/5450893/lexicon-charges-3500-for-a-repackaged-500-oppo-blu+ray-player This is an example of a name brand pulling a stunt that does not shock me, given my cynicism of the entire audiophile world. I have been involved in music production for 25 years. From our perspective, we just laugh at those willing to pay outrageous prices for music REproduction from so-called boutique operations. So when Lexicon, which is much bigger than boutique, plays this game, you have to wonder about all those little guys too. If you understand the equipment that is used to make the music, you just scratch your head at the expense some incur to listen to that same music. It's a total waste of money. -- mortslim mortslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74782 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Transporter listening test
You can use the ART (Applied Research and Technology) Cleanbox that balances rca outs and converts them to XLR. You can buy it at any musical instrument retailer like Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, Guitar Center, Zzounds, American Musical Supply, etc. -- mortslim mortslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35068 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Speaker recommendations
Go to a musical instrument store and ask about near field monitors. Several companies make them. They are small, and self powered. They have the best audio quality. Professional engineers use them to mix recordings. You can't get any better than that. -- mortslim mortslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34423 ___ audiophiles mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Please help me understand attenuation issues
I read the wiki articles on connecting to a poweramp from a squeezebox and I am confused. I don't have any knowledge of electricity or electronics. I am worried about the attenuation issues. I plan to buy a pair of QSC HPR153i 15 3-way Powered Loudspeakers. Why do I want these mammoth beasts for my modest home? Well I also play the guitar through a Line6 Pod (a guitar amp modeler), which is a live sound application, in addition to my squeezebox which is a prerecorded sound application. Both of these sound sources offer line level outputs. I may connect them both to the speakers via my Mackie UNpowered mixer (1202 VLZ). My question: Can a kind reader please read the specs for the speakers (they are available on the QSC website) and tell me what issues I should be aware of in this proposed system. Thanks -- mortslim mortslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34260 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Please help me understand attenuation issues
Thanks for the help. I have a follow up question. The QSC's have gain controls as well. Should the QSC gain controls be set in any specific way. And the fact that the QSC's have gain controls mean they have built in preamps? -- mortslim mortslim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11039 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34260 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
