Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Affordable PSU Upgrades for Classic
Thanks iPhone. I every system I own (3), improving power delivery through cords or a PS Audio power plant has made a significant difference in my enjoyment of the music. Side note - A new Virtue One Amp with their 130w PSU fed by a classic Synergistic Master Coupler - wow! If I can screw around with the sound of the SB classic for $20 or so and maybe improve it, that sounds like more fun than measuring to me. Again - any links to regulated power supplies I could try are appreciated. Thanks. -- ismarketing ismarketing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30585 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Herbach Rademan sell a surplus power supply that outputs 5 volts at 2 amps for $10.00 You will have to change the output connector to one that will fit into the SB. The power supply will also accept different power cables, so you can try different types to see if they make any changes in the sound. http://www.herbach.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PRODStore_Code=HARProduct_Code=TM93PWS2476Category_Code=PWS -- Wayne1 Wayne1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Just what I was looking for. Even better would be any recommendations for something already terminated with the right power connector. I can plug stuff in, but that's the limit to my tech ability. Solder iron + me = bad things. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Affordable PSU Upgrades for Classic
Thanks iPhone, I've read these posts and many from you. That said, I've also seen posts that say for less than $20, people hear an improvement. I won't spend $200+, but $20 I'm willing to gamble. I'm already using a killer EAD processor repurposed as a DAC, so I've got that part covered. Again - any links would be appreciated and thanks. -- ismarketing ismarketing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30585 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I follow what you're saying. And if you like the EAD processor, I would say you're done until you decide to upgrade to a Transporter. Phil and I have read those posts also. I have also read where people swear by using a Green Marker on their CDs and can Hear amazing things. If one is looking to hear something one probably IS going to hear an improvement (an engineer friend and I have tested this theory). Can the SB3 be improved by modification? Yes it can be and I am not saying it can't. All I am saying is that I don't know of any and haven't heard of any MAGIC part or mod out there that is worth doing to see an actual improvement worth hearing that the money would not be better put toward upgrading to a Transporter or buying a nice DAC, IMHO YMMV. The software that Phil and I are using to test with records the actual output before and after. If the two graphs line up, there was no audible change. And if there are slight changes, most of those are below what can be heard or to fast for the ears/brain to acquire and recognize. Other tests were glaring as in lose of bass or early roll off of highs. Yes some were surprising, but most were exactly what I had expected to see. I will say one thing, if people are going to mod their Slim Devices, they need the software for sure. The reason is to do a baseline first to make sure what they did didn't mess anything up. Again the ears can't be trusted if the brain wants to have/hear an improvement from ones labor! [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Affordable PSU Upgrades for Classic
Hi all, I'd like to see if a power supply update makes an audible difference on my SB v3, but I don't want to pay $200 to experiment. It seems that the Elpac model that is plug and play with the SB is no longer made. If anyone has links to an alternative, they would be appreciated. Thanks. -- ismarketing ismarketing's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30585 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of Squeezebox. There are tons of threads on this subject so do a quick forum search. In my opinion and from testing, its basically a waste of time. One of two things, either save up for a $500 plus DAC or buy a Transporter. Please see the following Threads: 'Read whole Thread, pay attention to Post #7' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63349) ' Another one' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=50155highlight=power+supplypage=2) Basically, there are internal switchers after the main DC input so upgrading or going to a linear power supply is a waste of time and money. The SB3 is already a good NMP and to make improvements worth paying for takes the money that makes a Transporter or a nice DAC the logical route to follow. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, Vandersteen Quatro, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: SB3, GFR-700HD, Thiel 2.3, Second Boom Home Office: SB3, NAD C370, two VSM-1 Home Gym: SB3, Parasound Vamp v.3, Thiel PowerPoint 1.2 House Portable: SB3, Audioengine A5 Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Expedition: SB3, ToughBook iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64278 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
