Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Bit perfect SqueezePlay and WASAPI support?
I found the prebuilt SqueezeSlave with asio at https://sourceforge.net/projects/softsqueeze/files/squeezeslave. Luckily my internal soundcard seems to have an asio driver: squeezeslave-asio --list Output devices: * 0: M-Audio Delta ASIO None of my other audio devices (USB DAC and Realtek HD on mobo) show up, but I've not used asio before so will have to do some digging on asio4all etc. From a brief test I *think* WASAPI sounds better than asio, but that's not from any proper listening. Also WASAPI interfaces appear in Foobar for all my audio devices which is nice, so WASAPi seems to be the easier to use choice out of the box. In case anyone is interested generally in bit perfect audio on Windows 7, I found a very useful article with config recommendations (not just for JRMC) at http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Windows-7-Audio-J-River-Media-Center-14-Configuration. -- mr-b mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76025 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Bit perfect SqueezePlay and WASAPI support?
The M-Audio asio driver may be available for download. Foobar, Media Monkey, Winamp will all run asio as well. Not a plug for asio, just an fyi. It seems in theory they should sound the same, but having no clue on the actual theory, I'll leave that to those smarter and more educated than me. Good luck either way; I'm all for 'whatever works'... -- fphredd fphredd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76025 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I'd like to run them on the same machine to use the Squeezeslave-asio version (Squeezeplay doesn't support asio), and have the Squeezeplay interface on a built in touchscreen. I don't seem to be able to pull this off, Squeezeslave doesn't show up...SBS on a NAS, if that matters in setup. Personally, using Squeezeslave asio version for bit perfect. I use iPeng to control, but you could install moose to control. I don't know if you can mix SqueezePlay with Squeezeslave. Have you thought of the asio route instead of WASAPI? -- fphredd fphredd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33133 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76025 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Bit perfect SqueezePlay and WASAPI support?
Interesting - I used to use SqueezeSlave in the past but had thought that SqueezePlay was now the focal point for SB on the desktop, so I'd not even considered it. Also I'd thought that ASIO had been superseded by WASAPI in Windows 7. Does it work on Win7? The SS wiki says that you have to build an asio version so (for me) I guess it may not be a quick process to try it out. -- mr-b mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76025 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Hmm - I doubt SqueezePlay (or SoftSqueeze, SqueezeSlave) would ever have seen the light of day if they were considered a threat to SB sales. However WASAPI or other bit perfect audio support would allow SP to keep up with the Jones' and I think only encourage those parts of the marketplace for whom this kind of thing is important. Tx Triode for the tip on portaudio - yes I see now that Squeezeplay uses portaudio according to the wiki, and portaudio supports WASAPI. [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Bit perfect SqueezePlay and WASAPI support?
Hi Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I figured ppl on here would know! ;-) I really like having SqueezePlay as a soft SB player for my PC, however bit-perfect playback support via WASAPI in Vista, Windows 7 etc. seems to be getting common in other s/w players e.g. Foobar2k, J. River MC. So does anyone know whether WASAPI support is planned for SqueezePlay? -- mr-b mr-b's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10044 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76025 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Squeezebox doesn't use any audio drivers, as the files are sent over Ethernet, so no need for wasapi or other audio drivers. -- Themis SB3 - North Star dac 192 - Croft 25Pre and Series 7 power - Sonus Faber Grand Piano Domus Themis's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14700 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76025 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
