[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] PC or Transporter

2009-02-05 Thread Schindler

Hello, currently I use a PC with a soundblaser X-Fi and Softsqueeze. The
card is connected analogue to my amp.

Would a Transporter with analogue output sound better than my pc?

On what amp and speakers you have your Soundblaster or Transporter
connected to :-)

But the Transporter is a very serious piece of HiFi equipment with
state of the art DAC's(just see the price tag), so if connected to
downstream equipment which matches its performance, it will beat the
Soundblaster by light(y)ears, but if your amps and speakers are not in
the same league, then my advice is :

Use the money for some serious speakers and a matching amp and start
out with a SB3 or Duet/SB and start saving up again for a Transporter(I
am still saving up for a Transporter myself).

Hmmm.. If only used for dance music, this setup will certainly give you
a lot of deep bass since the Primus is only preamp and the logans only
has amplifier for the subwoofer, but why connect something like this to
a Soundblaster anyway ? it will probably only reveal how a computer
soundcard can distort a perfectly good wav file :-)

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] PC or Transporter

2009-02-05 Thread Schindler

yeah.. sorry also some DNM power amplifiers are present...

Well sound is not bad at all, but recently I compared Rokia Traoré,
Bowmboï (African Musican) with the PC (Flac) and my Resolution Audio cd
player... Well hard to say but I liked the CD more, my wife the PC. So
there was the question how a Transporter would sound. More like the PC
or the CD player.

The SoundBlaster X-FI is not a bad piece - but the Transporter is
definitely going to sonically outperform it in my opinion. As was said
earlier though, it depends if you personally prefer the sound of
better (not everybody does)...

converters really don't have any place inside a pc if you care anything
about your audio.
