[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Re: 12.28Mhz oscillator removal - which radio streams will I lose?

2006-07-07 Thread parrydave

Thanks for responses guys. I did think about posting this in the DIY
forum, but wasn't really asking about mod itself. Thought there would
be more folk here who have had their units professionally modded by
Bolder/Red Wine who could comment.

Triode, thanks for tip. I may just lift it and scan through some radio
streams to see what i get.

Nelamvr6, the mod makes a small improvement to jitter. see Sean's post
here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15882highlight=12.28

My primary concern is getting the best from my own music collection and
the mod is quite easy. I expect the benefits it brings to be minor
compared to the other mods I'm planning. So I'm trying to get a feel
the tradeoffs.

thanks

Also, am I correct in thinking that with streams I can no longer decode
after removal of crystal, I will get white noise ouput?

You won't get noise, they'll simply not play. The buffer will fill up
but then nothing will happen, as if the player is paused.

You might try posting this on the DIY board - there might some people
over there that can answer your questions and don't hang out here.

Should be OK with alien as the mplayer config resamples it to 44.1.

Also, all you need to do is lift one end, so it is can be restored if
necessary..
