Last time I decided to try out a new DAC, Digital Village in Barnet were happy to sell me their demo Lucid DA2496 (this was before the Benchmark existed) on the understanding that I could return it if it didn't come up to scratch, or exchange it for a brand new one if I liked it. (I ended up returning for a refund). I agree there is usually decent value in pro gear, expecially if you are using it for a pro job, like recording, etc :) Mastering engineers have very different objectives in listening to sound than audiophiles. I would take audio listening advice from most mastering engineers with a grain of salt. Pro sound and high end audio are two separate worlds with little in common. Unfortunately none of these are readily available in the UK and anything sourced from the US will probably be 120V instead of 220V but thanks for taking the time to reply. HiFi shops won't stock these products - they are primarily professional studio equipment, and you need to go to pro studio dealers to get them. Places like Sound Tools, Digital Village and the like. Looking at Sound Tools' website, I see the Benchmark DAC1 is £665, and the Lavry DA10 is £589. I don't know about Benchmark and Mytek, but I know for a fact that the Lavry is 120-240 50/60hz. You can use it in the UK by swapping out the power cord or just using an adapter. Look at the Lavry web site and contact them for distributor info -- I'm certain you can get one in the UK. Worst case, EMS from the states would take 3 days or so. killie99;160725 Wrote: Unfortunately none of these are readily available in the UK and anything sourced from the US will probably be 120V instead of 220V but thanks for taking the time to reply. Why not Musical Fidelity gears since u r right in the middle of UK? I currently enjoy the A3.24 ($600 US) very much over my high end Sony SACD 9000ES player.
