Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Will this Elpac Power Supply Work?
After reading through all these forums (wow, is there a ton of stuff!) I think I'm gonna skip the linear power supply and buy a Benchmark DAC-1 and connect via optical. Not too sure about the posts about skipping the preamp and connecting directly to the power amp but I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the information guys. -- PhyreWyre PhyreWyre's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11794 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35704 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Will this Elpac Power Supply Work?
The ELPAC you have linked to is a switching power supply. The ELPAC WM220 is a very popular LINEAR, REGULATED power supply that has been used by many SB owners. They can be found used and/or surplus on E-Bay quite often The 5 pin DIN connector will have to be removed and a 2.5 mm DC connector soldered in place. -- Wayne1 Wayne1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1335 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35704 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Will this Elpac Power Supply Work?
Hi all. The power supplies that I've learned about reading through these forums are either very expensive (Boulder), sold out (Elpac WM075-1950), or DIY. Are there any plug and play linear power supplies out there for the Squeezebox 3 that is in stock and ready to ship for under $50? -- PhyreWyre PhyreWyre's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11794 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35704 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Thanks opaqueice. Quite heated debate towards the middle and end! I read the other forum and if I remember correctly, you said you didn't find much of a audible difference between the power supplies or am I mixing you up with someone else? opaqueice;205696 Wrote: Yes. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Will this Elpac Power Supply Work?
Everyone assumes that a linear regulated supply will be an improvement over the switcher that comes with the SB3, but no one seems to be testing the idea that one switcher may sound better than another. We'll never know if no one listens... Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Will this Elpac Power Supply Work?
The stock switcher has been shown to emit a lot of noise which might affect some systems but not others. This may be why some hear an improvement with a different psu and others don't. You might try plugging the wallwart into a power conditioner first to see if that helps. If you can audition a linear or buy a cheap one it can be fun to compare. I auditioned the 750.00 Bolder psu and their full modded SB. Not worth the money IMO. A stock, cheap (17.00) psu sounded just as good as the 750.00 bolder. The Bolder mods are a waste of money, IMO, IME. -- tomjtx tomjtx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7449 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35704 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Will this Elpac Power Supply Work?
I've been navigating my way through the myriad number of power supply upgrades for the SB. Unforunately, it looks like if there's anything consistent about the makes and models used by members of the forum, it's their inconsistency. From what I've gleaned -- based the voltage, amperage and connector type -- I THINK I have found a suitable candidate: the Elpac WP 1205.760; 5V, 2.4A (linear).
