[SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Wired vs Wireless Thoughts and Q
Have been following soundchecks thread with interest, so thought I would try an access point to take away the wireless card operation from my SB2. Can't get the access point to let the SB talk to the server ;-( after many hours of frustration over 3 weekends. Any way, just wired it today through the conservatory across the kitchen and lounge, no one else in ;-) Interesting, the soundstage shrunk considerably in depth, but opened out side to side amazingly, imaging/positioning in 2d, I guess, got far better, but lost some clarity. Just switched back to wireless, soundstage narrowed and deepened, clarity is back, but I'm missing the width and clearer imaging. Easy Q ;-) How do I get best of both worlds ? :D -- Deaf Cat Deaf Cat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=515 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85465 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

I also noticed a difference between wifi and ethernet. I like eternet better. For me, wifi was a bit weaker. Like the difference between a powerful AM station and an average power FM broadcast. At first I though I liked the wifi better. In some ways it sounded a bit more real or analog. After further listening I realized it was not as dynamic. Thats why it sounded less digital. Less soundstage. Smaller sound. This was via my transporter. On further experimentation I also realized that upsampleing my redbook to 24/96 improved the sound again. Much debate on both of these observations, as you are probably aware! -- earwaxer9 System: modified Winsome Labs Mouse, modified Maggie MMG's, Transporter, HSU sub 12, MSB DAC to 500 watt sub slave amp, JPS labs power cords, Silver audio interconnect, Audioquest Granite speaker cable. earwaxer9's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39527 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85465 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

In a situation like this when something imposible apears to be happening. Where to start investigating. 1. Simple deterministic machine whos behaviur is fully understood. Vs. 2. Unimaginably more complex human brain, with a known documented tendency to imagine things in all other situations. There 1000 other good and - real reason - to go wired. I'm an engineer so I like technically simple solutions, if two physical objects are stationary why don't connect them with a wire instead of some fragile complicated minature radio juju.
