Re: [Aus-soaring] Condor 2

Very nice
One thing worth mentioning is have a look on the forums where they
explain how to up the MSAA for a better visual result (you may have
already). It's a setting that cannot be changed in the game itself,
but can be changed with a custom profile for the game using the
graphics card software. Well worth the effort.
Hope to see more southern hemisphere players on in the evenings as
things ramp up!
Cheers

I purchased a copy a couple of days ago and am liking what I've seen
so far.  I've attached a screenshot taken while flying using the
scenery that ships with Condor 2 - bog standard, no mods. As with the
previous version, the in-cockpit visuals are fairly basic looking; but
the landscape environment and the sky and cloud visuals are a pleasant
step up from Condor 1. The weather model seems plausible, but I
haven't been able to spend a lot of time playing with it yet so I've
yet to twiddle all the knobs to see what they do. :-7 It looks like it
will be a lot of fun. Teal

Thanks for all the replies, they have been very helpful.
I should have been more specific, these are to be used on a PC control
unit I'm putting together, rather than an actual aircraft. I don't
think there are any good options for airbrakes and flaps at the moment
when flying sims, so decided to come up with something myself

Agree with Bob and bike grips
The Germans often use blue handles off skiing stocks. The slot at
back is for the strap. Also stick grips are black ski stock handles
again with slot for strap.   Sometimes a bit hard to find in some
areas in Australia.  At corner store in Germany.
Some gliders like all Astir's use the black ski stocks but these can
easily come off stick in flight. There is an AD on some models of
astirs(not all but should Be) the the grip coming off. I always add a
3mm SS screw at base of grip as fools in the past have put their head
through the canopy and then I had to flop some perspex and glue in a
30cm circle.  Adding  the screw before the head goes through canopy
 is much easier!!

As promised, just in time for summer: SkySight [1] is now running in
Western Australia (as well as South/Eastern Australia)
There's been a lot of work behind the scenes working to improve the
forecasts for this summer, as well as some visual improvements.
Included below a very brief screencast demonstrating some of the new
animation features, both of wx maps and wind.

I'm considering a YouTube series aimed at novice pilots explaining
how to do your own forecast and plan a task, let me know if this might
be of interest to you.

Re: [Aus-soaring] Gliding Simulators?

2016-07-21 Thread Tom Wilksch
Just to clarify, the VR means virtual reality and comes about from a headset
that is worn, and completely blocks the view of the outside world. So the
Keepit sim is not VR. I mention it only because the difference between the two,
and corresponding merits of each, was discussed quite a bit, and will continue
to be I think.

Some time ago Lake Keepit club built a very impressive VR gliding simulator

from that club comment on how useful their simulator has been for training etc?

2016-07-20 Thread Tom Wilksch

Hi Everyone

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the meeting new and old faces at the
AGM. I particularly enjoyed the simulator forum and hearing from all the
other people who have put time and effort into the building of one. I hope
the VR setup I brought along gave everyone who tried it a good insight into
the direction I think we might be heading in the next few years. Certainly
there were some surprised and positive reactions.

I look forward to continuing the conversation

Seems both the Rift and Vive don't support DirectX7 or DirectX9
(because it's old as the hills). It might be possible to get it
working with some sort of middleware like VorpX, but I haven't heard
of anyone succeeding yet.
I wouldn't go buying either headset for use with Condor just yet.

fact we are able to take part in this crazy sport of ours means we are
the lucky ones! We shouldn't forget it.
Time spent sitting in front of a keyboard talking about how good it
all used to be is time wasted. There's a weekend approaching. Get out
there and make the most of it. I certainly will be :-)

 Emilis, on
consideration, I do not entirely agree with your recent comments.
Golden ages live in our memories, but (fortunately/unfortunately),
memories
are fallable. In any case, all that you refer has passed ..for ever.

As always, NOW is the time to seize the moment

Let me suggest to you and to everyone else who is a member of this

that the reality of gliding in Australia today right now ..
is that
we are living in an era WHERE THIS IT IS AS GOOD AS IT IS EVER GOING
TO GET.

 THIS is the golden age.

So I suggest, ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY, whilst you still can.
