Re: [Aus-soaring] NSW state comps - the last time!!!
Last update to the scores is now on Soaring spot All classes scored finally. http://statecomps14.nswgliding.org.au/ Just my own personal thanks to people who helped the scoring along the way, Heath for his upload page and server, Nick for the original website setup, Tim for scoring scripts and ongoing fault resolution, Ailsa and Matt for helping sort out the final chaos the last couple of days. (We were always going to be in trouble when a super computer takes 70 min to score one flight). ___ Aus-soaring mailing list Aus-soaring@lists.internode.on.net To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring
Re: [Aus-soaring] NSW state comps
Well its run and done. We had the wind up dinner Saturday night and presented the trophies and bottles of wine. The event was superbly administered and the weather was challenging and rewarding with some big tasks (maybe just a little tooo big Ailsa) and interesting changing gear weather. One minute your belting along at 12000ft and 120kts then your struggling to get home in 0.5kt and best L/D. The winners were Club Class Nathan Johnson 15m and Standard Matt Gage 18m ClassDavid Peitsch Open Class Paul Mander Fastest speed of the comp 131.1kph by Dave Peitsch Fastest Std Class 130.3kph by Tom Claffey Unfortunately the scoring system crashed out in a big way leading to std/15m records being destroyed in the crash and and many flights having to be evaluated manually (we suspect we have found a flaw in the scoring by setting a very cunning task.) Anyway please bear with us while we reconstruct the contest from the start and get the scores up on the website, except Club Class which worked perfectly(must be the pilots). I will post again when they are done. Re: [Aus-soaring] NSW State Comps
Thanks to the wonderful skills of Mr Shirley, the scores on soaring spot now reflect the state comp rules for lay days. Note that the score allocated for laydays is continually updated depending on the scores for future days. But day to day the results will be correctly averaged and penalties applied for laydays. Another interesting day today with lower height bands and blue skies. Day 2 I was leaving at 12,000ft and today I left some at 3,500ft. [Aus-soaring] NSW State comps - Temora
Its one month to run on the early bird discount to enter the NSW State Gliding Championships at Temora. We have been enjoying some good early season weather the last few weeks. My last topped out at 11,000 (yes on oxy) and the thermals were regularly pushing the 7 knot average. So if you what to practise in the area, contact the club and we will sort out the tug. Not many official entry forms in yet, but lots who have said they are coming. So why not just do it now so us poor organisers can start the plans rolling. Not many places have the website advertised so if you know somewhere, spread the word. http://statecomps14.nswgliding.org.au/ Scott SL Composites Mob 0438 773 717 Hangar 02 6978 1559___ Aus-soaring mailing list Aus-soaring@lists.internode.on.net To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring

Re: [Aus-soaring] So it all over - NSW State Comps
The comp started in soggy conditions with trailers unable to be parked in the grass areas which were under water. Gliders were rigged in the cold and wet of the practise day which was blown out with 25kts of wind. We set tasks and gridded gliders using hard surfaces only as the entire grass areas on the aerodrome were unusable. On the first day we only bogged two cars and one glider but we achieved a competition day. Day 2 proceeded the same then it rained some more and the wind blew. The Temora ground marshals managed the impossible and herded the wild cats into gridding on narrow bitumen and car parks without destroying the airfield grass or losing crew and cars in the bog holes. Today we managed the extraordinary by gridding about 30 gliders on an active runway, vacating the grid of all personnel for the Aviation Museum flying display and had gliders launching within about 15 minutes of the last museum aircraft display. Five days of challenging and rewarding flying and happy pilots at the dinner tonight. Re: [Aus-soaring] Temora
Day 4 at Temora was more fun than Day 3, for some. We had an AAT Young(30km circle), Illabo(30km) and Ardelethan (45km) and 2.5 hr std class, 2hr open. That would have been alright except three separate storm cells swept across the task area providing many highs and lows. Throw in regular lightning strikes from all cells, 44kt gusting wind and torrential rain. Based on the files I do have, 3 people completed the task in each class. Many made it as far as Temora missing the last AAT circle(I just needed 1 more climb!) and the rest were scattered between Cootamundra and Temora. For my part I had an enjoyable 20 minute break from racing on the first leg to indulge in a spot of farm watering and ridge soaring before climbing up from the trees and into my first of many rain cells. It was then a case of tip toe through the storm cells until I could stay up no longer. Luckily that coincided with a base leg into Temora. Results for day3 open will be updated after a couple of outlanding files and some others are included at briefing. Yesterday was a very interesting day! Launch was completed with a wall of raised dust approaching from the SW. Our task took us NW then east before coming back. The AAT 2hr std, 2.5hr open, meant that we would have to come back through the front some where on the last leg. This provided some interesting racing and challenging final glides. Winds were about 15kts NW east of the front then light winds behind the front increasing as you got lower to about 15kts S on the ground. I found my on the safety numbers final glide from the east turned into a marginal look out the side window scrap home. RE: [Aus-soaring] Anyone driving from Waikerie to the East
I have recently purchased a glider which is at Waikerie and I want it in Temora, or at least closer than S.A. I will make the round trip if necessary in February, but if any glider type people are traveling in the right direction and might be willing to drag a trailer one way, then I would be interested in negotiating suitable reimbursement for your trouble.
