Re: [Aus-soaring] Ventus 3.

2014-05-14 Thread Jim Staniforth

Unfortunately, John Shelton is no longer flying sailplanes.
John sold the Ventus C quite a few years ago. The last owner didn't
initially know about John's alter ego Pez, couldn't understand why
people referred to his glider as "The Lingus".
Most of the characters (from US Region 12, Southern California) would
be unfamiliar unless you've seen Ittner, Gimmey, or others at
International comps or in (US) Soaring magazine.

An Australian version is sometimes found in "Keep Soaring".

Some of the words have been used for non Schempp
gliders.

How about Aeolus, Keeper of the Winds in Greek
mythology?

Carol suggests Claytus - the name you have when you aren't

However there seem to be multiple reports from different sources that
the new glider will happen sooner rather than later. I was told that one

I wouldn't expect an 18/21/23 though as that might cut into the

BTW what exactly is the Ventus 2axS that Tilo is flying in the

Anyway my bet on the new name is Tritus. Maybe Tertius is better Latin

Some of the words have been used for non Schempp gliders.

How about Aeolus, Keeper of the Winds in Greek mythology?

Carol suggests Claytus - the name you have when you aren't having a

Love it!

However there seem to be multiple reports from different sources that
the new glider will happen sooner rather than later. I was told that
one dealer ordered 8 of them.

I wouldn't expect an 18/21/23 though as that might cut into the
Quintus and would leave them without a new 15m glider.

BTW what exactly is the Ventus 2axS that Tilo is flying in the GP?

Anyway my bet on the new name is Tritus. Maybe Tertius is better
Latin but doesn't read or sound as well. Maybe an outside chance for Volus?

I guess we'll see.

Er, no.

I'm talking about an 80% scale Quintus wing maintaining the AR36.
Maybe use the V2CXa fuselage.

It is about time for pre pregs. Can't be repaired I've been told is
the downside.

The V2 was announced nearly 20 years ago so it is about time for a new glider.

80% scale Quintus wing gives 18m with aspect ratio 36. Any bets?
I've seen where 36 was calculated to be the optimum AR for an 18M
glider. A bloke in Austria had a design for an 18M glider some years
ago. Originally AR 47 or so, later revised to 36. Fly Shift. Website
had disappeared last I looked.

Hopefully the water ballast system will be better than the one in the Quintus.

Hi Adam,
Glad you are only "hearing things", as opposed to seeing things i.e.
hallucinating!
Perhaps this V3 will be a worthy successor to the legendary Nambus 4 which
was reputed to have a glide ratio "flatter than the curvature of the earth"!
???
