Re: [AusNOG] Telstra Insanity?

The latency checks are the dead giveaway here, when it splits from 3 results to
2/1 you know you are getting equal cost split.

Hi Skeeve,

As Brad said, that's just ECMP working its multipath magic.

It looks like your network has two connections into Telstra's network (one each
off chw-edge901 and ken-edge901), which are of unequal path lengths as seen
from the perspective of your local machine (with the last hop on your network
on the way to ken-edge901 not shown in the above output).

ECMP combined with a low number of UDP probes (and thus insufficient
randomnness to pluck all possible paths out of the woodwork) can lead to
extremely confusing ECMP traceroutes.

Try running an ICMP trace instead to get a solid idea of what (one) of your
paths is like:

  $ sudo traceroute -I 1.1.1.1

Re: [AusNOG] Telstra Insanity?

2018-10-10 Thread Benoit Page-Guitard
Hi Skeeve,

As Brad said, that's just ECMP working its multipath magic.

It looks like your network has two connections into Telstra's network (one
each off chw-edge901 and ken-edge901), which are of unequal path lengths as
seen from the perspective of your local machine (with the last hop on your
network on the way to ken-edge901 not shown in the above output).

  $ sudo traceroute -I 1.1.1.1

Hello Noggers

Is there a valid contact for the iinet Ironports cluster not sending SMTP
correctly "sometimes"?

My clients and my clients clients are having
difficulty finding the right path through the support chain.

Basicly, we need to send somebody a pcap file showing
icp-osb-irony-out8.external.iinet.net.au sending a tcp reset instead of
