Layouts

2012-03-24 Thread Gerald Klein
Can someone point me towards a listing and description of each of the
awesome layouts and what their purpose is? The documentation including the
layouts section on the awesome website
http://awesome.naquadah.org/wiki/Layout

thanks

AFAIK there is no 'purpose' of a layout. Just try them all
(Mod4+Space) and use the one which suits your needs at a specific
time.
I, for example, mostly use the 'columns' layout, but on a pivoted
screen 'rows' is better. When working with Gimp I use floating, and so
on.

Spiral and zigzag are not very useful IMVHO.

I wasn't looking for a direct application of a layout as much as functional
description, like what is dwindle, how are the frames laid out etc? Also
which icons go with which names? Is that the master to the left? When you
change masters how do they rotate? This kinda of stuff.

As a picture is worth 1000 words, the easiest way is to open 10
terminal windows and just switch layouts, switch master windows and so
on. Really :)

BTW, you forgot to CC the list :)

Re: awesome 3.5?

2012-03-24 Thread Emmanuel Lepage-Vallée
- My new layout system (bring back titlebars, tabs and most related
requested features, have less code than the current implementation), I
think. More details on that in a few days (hopefully). If you never heard
of it, it was mostly discussed on IRC, it work, but miss a few old features
and need to be ported to current git master (working on it).

So Uli, what's keeping us to release a 3.5 version? :)
