Thanks,  Cheri.  I will send the fail pasted into an email to those who
continue to be unable to open the Word doc.  The formatting when I do that will
be off; however, the information and numbers will be there.

Let me know, off list, if you need the file pasted into an email.  Celeste

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Lema, Lemos, Lima

2009-04-06 Thread LJardine

Hello,

Yes that is them I think as the siblings match.

Grandfather Louis Ray Lema born in 1898 and died in 1964 His wife was
Georgia Telo Telles my grandmother and they had 4 children Isoline,
Louis Ray Jr., Mary Lovejoy, and Albert. His father was Louis Ray or
D. Lema (stated Louis D. Lema on death certificate of my grandfather)
born abt 1864 and married to a Bella, their children were Manuel,
Louis Ray,Frank, George, Ben, Tony, Mary, Margaret and Jessie. Bella
died in 1935 in Oakland California.

Found them to be from Sao Miguel but not sure and do not know when
they came over to the USA and where first they came. Do not know if
Louis was born in the USA or Portugual. Trying to find a ship with
them on it or some trace of information and where to look in the
Azores for the record.

Thank you for your reply, any help is appreciated.

 Lucille,

I checked my sources and there are a couple of Louis Ray Lema's b. ca
1898-99 and one Louis R. Lema with a wife Bella b. 1864 living in Napa
 County. NA 1908. b. Portugal.

If you can give me more info, where did they live; was Louis Ray Lema b. in
the US; names of children, I might be able to help you with US records that
might lead back to Portuguese records.

HelloMy Jose Francisco ( Joseph Francis) was born in 1832 and came to the
USA in 1854 granted citizenship on April 24, 1854 in Boston, MA.  I know that
in 1866 he and his wife Amelia were living in Hawkinsville, Siskiyou County,

Hi, My ggrandfather went by the name of Manuel Jerome Francis and he was
from the island of Flores but they started in Fayal. He had two brothers
Jose and Joao which would be Joseph and John in this country. Joseph was
born in 1854 in Flores. They were mariners and Manuel settled in Stonington,
CT. and the last we knew the others were in WWorchester, Ma.  Henrietta
Maybe there  is a connection

Maybe Brio was her maiden name?  My grandmother kept her maiden name
of DaCosta until she came to the US where they gave her my
grandfathers name of Vargas.  Hope this helps!

as difficult as he is...they used the surname Brio and I have no idea
 where that came from

I found a Joseph Francis b. abt. 1832 who came to the US June 25, 1852
on the schooner Waldron Holmes sailing from Fayal to Boston. It says
he is a mariner. There is also a Manuel Francis on this ship.

There is a Joseph Francis b. abt. 1832 also on the schooner Abby
Forest who came to the US August 1854, seaman, sailing from the Azores
to Boston. Actually there are 2 Joseph Francis on this ship but he is
  6 years older.

There is a Joseph Francis b. abt 1832 on the Bark Halifax, September
1859, sailing from Halifax to Boston, mariner, b. in Portugal

Looks like it might be the same person going back and forth a couple
of times. Could be him. My grandfather also came through Halifax
once when he sold one of his ship's overseas and was returning home so
  don't let that throw you.

In the 1860 census, there is a Joseph Francis b. abt. 1831, Fayal ,
mariner, living on Nantucket Island. (There is something written
after his name but I do not know what it means). There is also a John
and Angelica Francis from Fayal living 3 doors down.

There's a Joseph Francis b. abt. 1833 living in Calaveras County CA.

There's another Joseph Francis b. abt. 1832, mariner, living in
Boston, but he is married with a child.

In 1870 census, your Joseph Francis with wife Amelia are living in
Yreka, CA both b. Western Island with children Mary 4, b. CA, Joseph
1, b. CA so Amelia must have come to the US before 1871. Living with
them is a Joseph Silva 30 also a miner b. Western Islands.

  Hope this helps.

Cheri,

My husband's mother was born in the USA and returned home with her parents
when she was a baby. Since you're researching in Achada and if you come
across the surname Carreiro Lazaro, and Lazaro Silva I would appreciate it
very much if you could share with me.

Researching:SantaMaria for Rezendes,
Sao Miguel, Achada, Carreiro Lazaro and Lazaro Silva
Agua de Pau: Francisco de Medeiros Bento,
Agua Retorta, Jose Francisco Salgadinho or possibly Cabouco (Lagoa)
Sao Jose: Francisco Vicente deceased in between 1913-1923 Luisa or Elisa de
Jesus, deceased 1954-56
and Sao Pedro: Manuel Resendes who moved there from Santa Maria, Carolina
Rezendes, born March 22, 1900, Sao Pedro. Apparently she was also born in
Sta Maria but registered after arrival in Sao Miguel.

This is getting interesting. I just discovered that ESTEVAO ROSA b. 1821 in
S. Mateus is the
4th great uncle of the wife of JOSE MACHADO SOARES (my grandfather). So he
is an ancestor of my grandmother!
