Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Manuel Silva Nevis Article
Thanks for posting this E. I've been researching Manuel Silva Nevis for about seven years. My brother bought the Nevis House at 1822 R st and beautifully restored it. The H R Edgar Institute named for my father. The family business Edgar Associates and several others operate there. The winery was across the street. What the article doesn't mention is that prior to the winery , Manuel was a master carpenter and did much of the endlessly detailed interior woodwork himself. It's also suggested by Lionel Holmes in the book Portuguese Pioneers of Sacramento that the Nevis name was adopted from a ship captain that Manuel worked for. The mention of the Azevedo's as cousins is a new angle for me to pursue. I currently working on a historical property registry application for the site. I've contacted the articles author for collaboration. Sorry , let me correct that Lionel suggested the his father in law Joseph Miller had derived his surname from the ships captain, not Manuel. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Brazil to Portugal
Thank you very much for the information. It has been a great help. So I went ahead and verified Manuel's brother and everything checks out except the census. The only one I am questioning is Tony (Son) . I have no record of him ever existing unless he passed away when he was young. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Brazil to Portugal
Sandy, I would suggest you try and get the birth record for Tony. It is possible he died shortly after birth which is why there is no family history about him.
