Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Finder Match ... importance of GEDCOM ... emphasis
Ok I did this and now I see how it works for transporting the info from one program to another, one more question. It gave me the option to choose a format, Ansel and one or 2 others, is one more preferred over the other? which is the best one to choose? Mike On Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 1:51 AM, Cheri Mello gfsche...@gmail.com wrote: Mike, GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogy Data COMmunication. It is a way for all genealogy programs to talk to each other. In Legacy, click on File, then Export. The screens will walk you through the process. When you are done, create a new family (I like to call mine Test) and then go to File then Import and bring your GEDCOM back in. This way, you can see what you are doing and how a GEDCOM works. Then delete your Test family as you don't want to accidentally enter data into that one! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Family Finder Sale only on Family Tree DNA
I think I have caught up again. So if I didn't send you a coupon code and you plan on ordering, let me know. I was moving all weekend and trying to do some email in between, so I could have messed up. I now have extra coupon codes. This sale ends Sunday. I'm at a festa all day Sunday and won't be able to help you order (for those that need my help). So if you are thinking about ordering, can you do it by Saturday, June 9 by 4pm PDT (our festa really starts Saturday night). If you have changed your mind about ordering, please send me back the coupon so I can use it for someone else. I have 11 kit orders so far and gave out about 25 or 30 coupons so far. [AZORES-Genealogy] Terceira marriage records... how to find?
How does someone in the U.S. go about finding marriage records in the Azores (specifically Terceira)? The story was always that Avo came over alone after being married by proxy (1920-1921). I would think that would involve lots of paperwork but not necessarily church records. I suspect it is just a story because I've found conflicting information in the Ellis Island database and in passenger line records. Is this the kind of thing you'd need to hire someone (on Terceira) to research? Has anyone had any success with this? Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions. Timya, Did you find their ship's manifest yet? If yes, what are their names and name of ship and year arrived and where. If not, give us the parent's names, children, approximate when born, when came to US, and where they lived in US and I/we will try to help you. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Portuguese Dictionary
Repost for Katharine Baker: Over the past dozen years I've actually worn out three different Portuguese-English paperback dictionaries. None of them was bad, but my favorite has been the Harper Collins Portuguese Dictionary -- now in shreds, so I really should buy a new copy! -- because it shows the most examples of words used in context and in idiomatic phrases. The homepage for Azores genealogy is: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig Clicking on each of the three conselhos (counties) on the map for Pico yields three pages. Madalena: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/registos/?serie=0ilha=5concelho=21 São Roque do Pico: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/registos/?serie=0ilha=5concelho=22 Lajes do Pico: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/registos/?serie=0ilha=5concelho=23 On each of these, select the pull-down for the Freguesia (parish, or village) desired, click the dot after Série for the desired type of document, then hit Procurar to search. Since I've never searched Pico documents, I don't know how complete they are. However, I hope this helps you.
